_____i. The Shining Force Series______________________________________________
The Shining Force series began back in March of 1991 with the Genesis/Mega
Drive game, "Shining in the Darkness", and has gone from strength to strength
producing a massive following for the 13 games in the series. The games vary
in terms of style of play, but are all classics in their own right. Shining
Force II was perhaps the finest RPG on Sega's 16-bit flagship, and rightly so.
I could talk about these games forever, but rather than doing that here, you

____ii. Storyline_____________________________________________________________
The citizens of Granseal are hard at work. Inside the castle grounds, the
centaurs concentrate on jousting and target practice while the spellcasters
compare teleportation and healing spells. Granseal isn't at war, but there
has been trouble with monsters on the outskirts of the kingdom, and the
king has ordered troops to sweep the area and drive the creatures away.
All notice the thunderclouds that gather above the castle. Not only is rain
unusual for the season, but the storm does not look to be an ordinary one.
The storm is a harbinger of coming events - events which will change
Granseal and its neighboring kingdoms forever. An ancient evil has broken
free, and is spreading over the land of Rune, devastating all that it
touches. Is there anyone, or anything, that can stop it? Start the
adventure and find out!

___iii. Gameplay______________________________________________________________
The style of gameplay in Shining Force II is what makes the game so wonderful.
Although the graphics and sound are really quite nice (for a 16-bit machine),
the game involves a lot of tactical planning, and I love it!
There are 4 main play modes in the game:
1. Storyline Mode
- all you need do is watch what's happening and press
A or C to keep them talking.
2. Wandering Mode
- walk around the main map to reach a new town or find
items or battles.
3. Town Mode
- enter a town to meet new characters, buy new weapons
and items etc, and let the story unfold as you talk
to the townspeople.
4. Battle Mode
- the game switches to a set-size map, where your team
and the evil hordes of monsters do battle, in a turn
based strategic way.
For details of the control method etc, please refer to section 6.iv for the
game's instruction manual.

Bowie is the character you play as and leader of the Shining Force. You can
name him what you like, as Bowie is just his default name. He starts out in
the game as a rather young looking Swordsman, as the picture on the left shows.
However, after promotion to Hero status he looks a lot older. He can use magic,
though he only has 2 spells. The only weapons he can use are swords. An
unlikely Hero at first, he'll soon prove his true strength if you remember that
he needs to fight too, not just stand in the back hoping that he won't be
killed. Of course you must protect him - if he dies, the Force retreats (and
you lose half your money) - but he can end up very strong if you use him!

Sarah is one of Bowie's school friends from the town of Granseal. She's a
Priest and therefore uses healing spells, with one exception - Blast. Her
weapons are not very powerful for attacking, which can lead to her becoming
weak, but I recommend that you keep using her as with the Vigor Ball she can
have a special promotion to Master Monk. She'll have the same spells as she
would have had as a Vicar, but the Master Monk weapons are far more powerful
and by making her cast a Heal spell every move she soon gains levels. It's
not uncommon to end up with a level 99 Master Monk. You won't believe how
strong she can really be until you try her!

Chester is one of Bowie's school friends from the town of Granseal. He's a
centaur and cannot use any Magic. He is quite strong, and certainly one of the
better Knights, he becomes even better when promoted with the Pegasus Wing to
Pegasus Knight. As a Paladin he is not quite as useful as having another
flier. His weapons for both promotions are the same, consisting mostly of
Lances and Spears. It's always a good idea to let him keep his spear when he
gets a lance, as the spear has a larger range of attack and can prove to be
useful still. While it can be annoying to have to wait to promote him (the
Pegasus Wing is in Pacalon, quite a way through the game) it is worth it to
see him with wings!

that he is good, I usually chuck him out first chance I get. By the end of the
game his defence is just about level with that of the other characters and his
HP doesn't seem to go much beyond 40, while the others are ranging from 70 to
well over 100. His attack isn't much to shout about either, and he can't even
use magic. Try using him as bait if you like :) His only saving grace IMHO is
that after promotion he can 'fly'.

Peter is a Phoenix who visits the town of New Granseal, only to be mocked by
the inhabitants. He cannot use magic. After speaking with the King he tags
along with the Force and is computer controlled until you have travelled to
Bedoe and spoken with the God Volcanon. Peter is certainly one of the more
powerful characters, easily gaining levels due to his strong attack. He
generally gains 2-3 HP per Level and 2 attack points. Despite his odd
appearence before promotion, he is unmatched by any of the Force. After
promotion to PHNX the land effect does not effect his movement and if he
dies he'll revive himself after the battle. Not only this, but it is clear
that he builds up a fire resistance, taking only half damage from Blaze etc.

After you've landed on Parmecia and fought the battle at North Cliff, you will
be snet out to make allies and trading partners. You'll find yourself in the
Town of Ribble, and once the people there realise you're not going to hurt
them, they'll all come out of hiding and you'll be free to go around the town.
Just south of the church you'll find May the Ranger who is willing to join the
Shining Force.

Gerhalt is a Beast Man from Polca Village, who joins at the start of a battle
in his home town after realising that the townspeople had been deceived. He is
quite strong, though if he misses out on a single battle he can soon fall
behind. His movement range (5) is what limits his progress, so I recommend
that if you plan to use him until the end that you shoud use a Running Pimento
on him. After this he'll be a sure-fire permenant member of your team. After
he is promoted he becomes a full Wolf, leaving his human form behind forever.

You'll meet Luke for the first time when you go to speak with King Bedoe and
Volcanon. He's a friend of Peter's. When you return to Polca and get the raft,
Luke will leave the town with you and then ask to join.

Dr. Rohde is a historian, living in the town of Hassan (see animation), and
only he can halp you get the caravan. But what does a boy like Bowie have that
would interest a historian? The Achilles Sword! When you have the Achilles
Sword, take it to Rohde and he'll tag along with the Force. Without him you
can't progress and fight the Taros. He'll join up as a member of the Force
when you clear the rocks at North Cliff. He'll use the Cannon as a weapon and
become a Brass Gunner.

Rick the Knight may look young, but when kitted up with a decent weapon, he
can kick major Devil butt! When you've fought the Taros and found the Caravan,
return to Hassan and you'll meet this unlikely looking soldier, who rushes at
you and asks to join with great enthusiasm. The Pegasus Wing is his Promotion
Item.

On your way to Creed's Mansion, you'll sto by the Elven Town. Here you'll hear
that a young elf, Elric is missing. When you reach the passage to Creed's
Mansion, Oddler will say he hears someone crying for help, you follow him into
a small area where there is a pool. In this pool you'll find Elric, however
saving him isn't as easy as you might think, as the pool belongs to the Harpy
and she's not gonna let her meal go without a fight! Once you've defeated the
monsters, Elric will join up in gratitude. His special promotion item is the
Silver Tank.

After you've spoken to Creed and Evil Spirit, you can choose one of 4
characters. Eric the Knight is one of these. If you don't pick him, you can
recruit him if, after Frayja joins, you go back to Creed's mansion. His
Promotion Item is the Pegasus Wing. It has been suggested that Eric is the
same Eric as in Sword of Hajya. When you meet him in Desktop Kingdom he tells
you how he was on a quest for a magic sword...

Karna is one of the four characters you can choose from at Creed's Mansion,
however if you don't choose her, you can return when you have the Sky Orb to
get her and the other 2 your tured down. She's a Priest and therefore uses
healing spells, with one exception - Blast. Her weapons are not very powerful

keep using her as with the Vigor Ball she can have a special promotion to

characters to aid you in your quest. Randolf the Warrior is one of these, he
was also the leader of the people on Floor World. If you don't pick him, you
can recruit him if, after you get the Sky Orb, you go back to Creed's mansion.
His promotion item is the warrior pride. While Karna is usually considered the
best to choose of the four, Randolf should not be underestimated, he is a
strong warrior and a valuable asset to your Force. If promoted to Baron he
gains +1 to his movement.

promotion item is the secret book. While Karna is usually considered the best

When you return to Granseal to get the Dynamite to unblock the tunnel to the
north, Janet will see you as you leave. She'll tell you that she knows her
love, Elric, is with the Force. Astral at first thinks that she wants to take
Elric away, but she asks to join so that she can be with him again and makes
a useful addition to the Force. Her special promotion item is the Silver Tank.

Higins is a Paladin from Pacalon, who left to find help for his city. He ran
into trouble with the Greater Devil Geshp and was almost possessed by another
gizmo, just like King Granseal and King Galam were. You'll see him when you
leave the town of Ketto, shortly after you arrive in North Parmecia. He'll be
knocked unconsious and when you complete battle 26, he'll join out of
gratitude for your saving his life.

Taya the Sorceress is at Mitula's Shrine. When you've beaten Zalbard and
spoken with Goddess Mitula, go through the doorway on the right and you should
see a statue. Search it and Taya will be restored to her normal form and will
tell you that Mitula wants her to go with you. Despite her great spells, she
has a weak defence and unless this is worked on soon she will not last through
much of a battle.

You'll first meet Skreech at Bedoe, when he is just a chick, and it seems you
make quite an impression on him there. Once you've spoken with King Bedoe and
God Volcanon, make sure you speak to the chick on the ledge outside the 3rd
floor. Then, when you are about to leave, wander around the bushes on the left
of the screen, stand imbetween two of them and a small bird will fall on you.
That's Skreech. His mother will thank you and he'll join later in the game, at
the town of Tristan, when you've spoken with Mitula and go to leave the town.
Remember, he will only join if you saved his life back at Bedoe.

Frayja the Vicar is in Pacalon Castle the first time you meet him. He's
feeling terribly guilty about something he's done. It turns out that a small
town on the north-west coast of Parmecia is the only thing blocking the Devil
Army from invading the mainland, and Frayja was the one who had to make the
choice to lock it's gate, and it's people inside to prevent a massive loss of
life. It was the lesser of two evils, but evil none-the less, and all he can
do is feel sorry for his sin. When you return to Pacalon after having been to
see Mitula, he'll go with you to Moun, to see if there are any survivors. Once
he has opened the gate and you go inside the town he insists on joining the
Force and fighting the battle in the town. The last person on your list of
fighters will be taken out for this battle and replaced by him for the
duration of this battle. This really annoys me, so I usually cast Egress and
replace him!

Jaro the Pegasus Knight will join you half way through battle 32, when you are
fighting your way to reach the village of Moun. When you first meet him, he is
fighting against you, on the side of the devils, but he decides he no longer
wishes to work for them, and starts fighting alongside your warriors (although
he is controlled by the computer for the duration of this battle). This might
cause you to question his loyalty, but do not doubt him, this is a permenant
change of heart and with a bit of work he can be a great asset to the
legendary Shining Force.

You'll meet Gyan the Gladiator in Moun, after Frayja has helped you get in and
you have fought off the monsters. When you tell him that the tunnel has been
cleared and he can return home he decides that his family can wait and that
your cause is more important. Although he has a low movement, his defence is
excellent and more than makes up for it!

Sheela is the third Master Monk in the game and can be found near the
Monastary/Dojo on Grans. The Monastary is South-west of where the Nazca Ship
crash-lands. On the left side of the Monastary are a lot of trees. Find your
way through these trees, heading upwards and you'll come to a waterfall, where
you'll see he swimming and diving. It turns out that she's one of Sir Astral's
old pupils and is training to be a fighting machine rather than becoming a
priest, because the Evil Red Baron murdered her fianc. She agrees to join the
force, in the hope that she might be able to avenge the death of her love.

Zynk is a Robot from the past, one of the inventions of the Ancients. He is
met in Moun, protecting the townspeople and tags along with the Force once you
leave Moun. He flies the Nazca Ship for you and when you go to Roft and Petro
dies he'll join. His movement range is a mere 4, so I recommend using either a
Running Pimento on him or equipping him with the Running Ring.

Claude is one of the special characters, you need the Arm of Golem from Moun
to make him join. Pictures of it's location and his location are linked to in
the pictures section of this page. South of Roft there is a small path along
the coast, which can be followed. It leads to a series of bridges linking a
number of small islands. On one of these there is a cave, go in it and inside
of it you'll meet Claude. If you don't have his arm he'll just complain and
won't join. In this cave you'll also find a way back to Parmecia. At the
bottom you'll see some dark panels on the floor, one on the left opens up a
path which leads back to the Magic Tunnel below Ribble. Claude has a good
defence but his low movement (4) and agility make him a poor member of the
Force, likely to miss most of the action in battle because he can't move with
the rest of the group.

When you return to Yeel, you'll find the town is deserted... or is it? Play
the piano in the tavern and a doorway will open up inside the church. Much as
the Priest tries to force you to go away you succeed in the end and find the
townsfolk living in tunnels under Yeel. You'll find Chaz here and he'll offer
to join you and your comrades.

When you defeat Red Baron on the battlefield, Lemon snaps out of his trance
and realises all the evil things he has done. He decides that he should take
his own life to atone for what he has done, however, Astral will tell you that
Lemon is now an immortal vampire and cannot die that easily. You'll find
traces of his attempted suicides all over the south of Grans as you go from
town to town and you'll eventually find him in Yeel. If you talk to him there,
he'll offer to join. You can pass him by here, but he'll meet up with you at
the Devil's Head Statue and join there. When he joins you'll get the Dark
Sword, which, while cursed, has a useful Desoul spell.

Not so much a Devil as a guardian, he protects the Taros Shrine and all
within it. To win the caravan away from him you must defeat him, and only
a Hero wielding the Achilles Sword can do that...
Zalbard
The weakest of the Greater Devil's, you'll fight him at Mitula's Shrine.
He's got a powerful Bolt spell, so watch out!
Cameela
To get to the Nazca Ship you'll have to get past her and her Iron Ball!
She's a master of disguise...
Red Baron
Leader of the Galam Army, and loyal to his King, the Red Baron Lemon
became a blood-thirsty vampire under the control of Devils. His armour
is red from the blood of those he has killed and he wields the Dark Sword.
Geshp
The ugly devil shows up all over the place, and is incredibly strong for
his small stature.
Lord Odd Eye
The truth is revealed... and he is 'really rather evil'. Once a promising
man, his life is thrown away in a rather tear-jerking moment.
King Galam
The King of Galam, one of Granseal's old allies. Possessed by the Gizmo which
threatened King Granseal he has become one of Zeon's strongest followers.
Zeon
The King of the Devils himself. His powers are locked inside the Jewel of Evil
and he himself is locked away in Arc Valley, but his strength is returning and
his sole desire is to rule the world...

Some of the Shining Force II characters can be promoted with certain items to
a special fighting class. To use them simply have them in the item slot of a
character (not in the depot of the caravan) when you go to the priest. He'll
automatically offer to use it in the promotion. Characters can only be
promoted once, so for example if you've already made Chester a Paladin, he
cannot be promoted to Pegasus Knight (if he was still a Knight he could be
promoted to Pegasus Knight though).
Gold (G) values are the prices at which shops sell the items. This does not
mean that all items can be bought at shops, just that if you were to sell
them, that's how much you'd pay to get them back.

amount of targets).

side there is a chest you can open after the battle, it's in there.

battle in time because of this.

the Tower, where Granseal was, is a little cave (it's the one
featured in the intro, where Slade steals the two jewels). It's on
the bottom floor, you just have to search the sword (with 'A') to
pick it up.
Thoughts: On my site there's a collage showing the sequence leading up to
finding the Force Sword, and using it at the Devil's Head.

___vii. Mithril_______________________________________________________________
Just above Galam is a river going down the left. At one point in the river, it
looks a little dented in both sides, this is where you use the Dry Stone.
You'll be able to see the Dwarven Village on the other side, go in there and
find the Blacksmith. Give him some Mithril and he'll offer to make you a
weapon for 5000G (make sure you've got plenty of cash!).
It has been said that 15 pieces is quite an odd number, since there are 12
members of the fighting Force. Although many have suggested that there may be
24 mithrils (with some only available by searching in battle in the Japanese
release of the game...), a new Theory put forward suggests otherwise...
:::::: 15 Mithril Theory ::::::
"It has long been debated how many pieces of mithril really exist. We all know
there are at least 15 pieces, but it just seems like such an odd number, given
that there are 12 characters on the Force at any one time. Maybe the extras
are just to try and get better weapons when you've wasted a piece of mithril?
Nope, that's not it. Or at least, not according to Ace, who has submitted the
following theory which seems to explain it all!
Throughout the game various weapons can be found, bought in the deals or
dropped by monsters... even some that are only otherwise available through the
Blacksmith. However, not all the mithril weapons are available through other
means, and surprise surprise, there are in fact 15 Mithril Weapons which are
only available through the Blacksmith. Hence, the 15 Mithrils are to enable
you to get one of each uniquely crafted weapon! The weapons are as follows:

8. In Eastern Parmecia, go over the lower bridge and search in
the 2-square indentation in the mountains, facing east.

10. In the passage to Creed's, go down beside the stairs, then
when you come to the hidden link to the chests, go down the
middle of this link to reach a totally undetectable area
containing a chest with mithril inside it.
11. In the mountains of Devil's Tail, north-east of Creed's Mansion.
12. In Pacalon, go into the castle. In a room in the top left you'll
see 3 stones outside the castle wall. Walk through the wall
towards these (there's a hidden gap) and go down the stairs into
the treasury where you'll find a chest.
13. North of Pacalon (on the way to Pangoat Valley/The Bridge) there
are some mountains to your right. Search the peak of these.
14. Chest on the right hand side inside Mitula's Shrine.
15. In a chest amongst the trees on the right side of the monastery
where you find Sheela on Grans Island.
Thoughts: Some of the more powerful weapons (like the Gisarme) are extremely
difficult to get, so I recommend that you save game before asking
him to make you something. If you're not happy with what you get then
you can reset and try again (be warned: it could take a long time...
on the other hand you might get lucky and get the Gisarme first try!).
The smith can do up to 4 weapons at a time, but I always stick to
having just one made, because if you get one good weapon and three
rubbish ones then you either lose 3 pieces of mithril to keep
the good one, or you lose the good one and risk getting all rubbish
ones the next time. After you've placed an order with him, leave the
village (there's an exit nearby) and go back - the weapon will then
be ready.

_____i. Levels for Learning Spells____________________________________________
The numbers after the spell's name indicate the character's total level to
learn the spell. The total level includes 20 levels gained before promotion.
Even if you promoted after level 20 the game assumes there were only 20 levels
gained before promotion, and the numbers shown below are not affected. For
example, if you were to level Karna up to 40 before promoting her, she would
learn Blast 4 at level 37. If you had promoted her before she reached level 37
she would not learn the spell until level 17 after promotion - the game assumes
she only gained 20 levels before promotion (37 - 20 = 17!).
For Sorcerer and Ninja Spells the level simply refers to their current level,
as they start afresh with new spells when promoted. Any levels gained before
promotion have no effect on their new spells.

Spell is the Spell's name, LV is the level of that spell the rest of the
details refer to, MP is the number of Magic Points to cast the spell, Range is
how far from the player the spell can be cast, Affect is the area over which
the spell has affect and the Effect is the result of the spell.

Just as your characters can cast spells on monsters, monsters can cast spells
on your characters. It is important therefore that you are able to recognise
the last 3 of the above symbols and what they mean in order to avoid
catastrophies (imagine a muddled Peter or Slade with a Gisarme attacking
Bowie!). Other symbols used (yet to have icons added to this page) represent
Poison, Paralysis and Dispel, the first two of which can be easily reversed
with a Detox spell. Curses can also be removed with a high level Detox, although
re-equipping the cursed item will of course bring the curse back too.

Part 1. Grans Island

As soon as you wake up head right, towards the school. In the basement of the
school, search the case to find medical herb. Sarah the priest and Chester the
knight will join you, then you should go to the castle. In the west wing of
the castle are three chests, which contain medical herb, angel wing and
antidote. When you go to the Tower, walk behind it and line yourself up between
the two windows. Walk north as far as you can, then search to find a piece of
mithril.
Battle 1 - Granseal's Tower

After the battle, go to the boat in the east of Granseal. At the docks you will
find a Quick Chicken amongst the right-hand barrels. In the bottom of the boat
you'll find a medical herb in the right-hand barrels. As you leave Granseal,
Jaha the warrior will join you. Outside of Granseal there is a battle to get
to Yeel.
Battle 2 - To Yeel or the South Shrine

If you go south to the Holy Sword's Shrine before you go to Yeel, you can find a
piece of mithril. It is located in the mountains around the shrine, the one that
hangs down lowest as you go toward the cave. From here you should go to Yeel.
Yeel
Not a lot happens here. If you search the vase in the first house you come to
you'll find healing seed. From here, you need to exit through the top of the
town to get to Hawel's House. On the way, you'll have a battle.

After the battle you will get the Jewel of Light. Slade the thief will join.
Inside Galam town you can sneak into the weapon store and find 2 medical herbs
in the chests. You can't use the north gate out of the town, so you have to go
out the bottom, back to Granseal. When you leave, there will be another battle.

When you arrive back here, you find that it is too late, the Galam Soldiers
have already been. The animals from the pet shop have been set loose, but if
you go to the small house with the vase and barrel, you will find one of them,
cold and alone. Talk to him and he'll join you (you get to name him, but his
default name is Kiwi). He's a tortoise and has a high defence and attack,
unfortunately he has only got 7 HP and never gets many more. He is very
vulnerable to magic and eventually his defence will be the same as the
others'. When you go to the castle (even though your mother asked you not
to!), you'll have to go to the Ancient Tower and fight a battle.

Ancient Tower
After this, Princess Elis will be kidnapped, and you will get the Jewel of
Evil. There will be an earthquake, forcing you to set sail from Grans to
Parmecia, but before you leave, search the small hole made by the earthquake,
outside the castle and to the right. You'll find a mithril. That's the end of
Part One, as nothing happens on the journey on the boat...

Here you find out that there is a tunnel which leads to the North, but there is
no way to shift the rocks that block it.
New Granseal
In the new town, the King will ask you to find him a way to get back to Grans
Island to save Elis. Bear this in mind during your travels. Go to the Tactical
Base and search the eagle shield to find the Warrior Pride (promotes Warriors
to Barons). There is Cheerful Bread in the top barrel in the room left of the
throne room. When you leave the castle, you can raid the houses (to find: Angel
Wing, Antidote, Healing Seed and Healing Drop) and then go to meet Peter the
Phoenix, who will join (but you can't control him in battle until you've been
to see Volcanon). When you finish here, the Minister will give you 100 Gold
Coins and then you should go to Ribble.

May the Ranger will join here. There is a piece of mithril in the center square
of the grey sandpit. Here you'll find out about the ruins under the tree, and
that you need the Achilles Sword to defeat the Taros. You'll also find out about
the Caravan. There is Bright Honey in the vase in the bottom-left house. From
Ribble, you should go to Polca Village, to the North. In the battle from Ribble,
one of the Witches has the Power Ring, if the character who defeats her has a
free item slot, she will drop it and he/she will pick it up.

You need to go East, across the top bridge and then West. If you go over the
bottom bridge, instead of the top, you'll find a piece of mithril, in a 2-square
dent in the mountains. Fight your way through the Cavern of Darkness (inside the
cave is a chest that contains Silver Tank) to reach the village.

Polca Village
Not a lot happens here the first time. There is a Protect Milk in the house
which is built into the earth. Mount Volcano erupts and a blind boy, called
Oddler is found and taken into care. If you go to the West of the village,
you'll see a strange looking creature who has fallen over. Go to help him and
he'll talk to you about Creed (he refers to Creed as 'HE'). Once you've heard
all there is to hear, go to the top right to exit the village. You will then
have a mountain-side battle to Bedoe, the Bird Town.

In Bedoe, you'll find out more about Creed, the ex-Greater Devil. The Quick
Ring is in the vase next to the bird on the 3rd floor who says "We need a lot
of hot water..." After you've spoken to King Bedoe (on the top floor), you
must go to Mount Volcano to speak with God Volcanon. The King will tell you to
get a raft, and will send Luke to escort you. When you go back through Bedoe,
talk to the baby bird on the ledge outside the Kings' Level and all the birds
on the 3rd floor. When you leave the town, wander around the bushes outside on
the left and the baby bird should fall on you, his mother will thank you and he
will join your team later in the game. If you don't get him to fall on you at
this point, he will not join. From here you should go back to Polca.
Polca Village
When you arrive Gerhalt, the Wolf Man will join you, after which there will
be a battle.

After the battle, go to the Mayor's House (it's along the top, to the left)
and he'll arrange a raft for you, if you'll take the blind boy with you. Agree
to do this and leave the town. When you leave, Luke, the Bird Man will join
you (make sure you go back into the village to buy him a Long Sword). Head
south along the river to get back to the area around Ribble. From this area
you need to go East along the river and then when you come to the mountains,
get off the raft to the south and go into the Eastern area. You'll have a
battle here, after which you can go into some ruins.

Use the Wooden Panel at the tree here. You must stand in front of the tree,
and not beneath it's branches, using the A button to select 'use'. A tunnel
will open under it, inside of which you'll find the Achilles Sword. From
here you should head down the river towards Hassan.

There is a Healing Water in the chest at the Shrine.
Hassan
Rick the knight joins here. A new weapon shop has opened, but other than
that there's nothing more to do here. Stock up on healing seed here though,
then head west along the dried up river in the caravan to get to a small cave.
Dwarven Mine
Search the fireplace to find the Dry Stone and talk to the dwarves on the
right. Then exit the cave and cross the river at the lowest possible place,
opposite the lighter patch in the forest. You should be able to get into the
Elven Town without the battle first that way. Otherwise, fight the battle,
then go in. Either way, you must fight the battle.
Elven Town
Lots to find here. In the top left there is a chest that contains Vigor
Ball, and to the bottom right one that has mithril. There is Fairy Powder
in a vase in the largest house, and if you search the top left bookshelf in
the top floor of the same house, you'll find Secret Book. If you go around
the outside of the houses, under the trees, clockwise, you'll come to the
mithril chest and then go along the two-square gap in the trees to reach a
secret battle, in which the Bubbling Ooze is the boss, and will keep
summoning new monsters until you kill it. You'll probably be too weak to
beat it at this point in the game, but it's worth a go - in the Japanese
version the Life Ring and Right of Hope can be found, not to mention that
the Blue Shaman at the end carries a Healing Rain. Now head West towards
Devil's Tail (if you didn't fight the battle before entering the town, you
must fight it now, a High Priest will drop a Shining Ball).

Harpy Pool
Oddler will hear someone crying out for help on the way to Devil's Tail,
so you follow the sound to the Harpy Pool. Elric the archer is trapped in
the pool, but before you can rescue him, you have to battle the Harpies.
After the battle you'll save him and he will join. You can find a Healing
Drop on the right side of the pool.

Before you go up the stairs, you'll find a secret passage kinda below them
and to the left. If you follow this, you'll come to 3 chests. One of these
contains a Brave Apple, the others contain Medical Herb and Angel Wing. Also,
there is another secret passage, completely undetectable. At the point where
there is a dark area before the 3 chests, walk down at the center. You'll find
some mithril in a chest. You can then go up the stairs. In Devil's Tail itself,
after the next battle, you can find another mithril hidden in the 3 square
indentation in the mountains in the north. In the next battle, a Dark Madam
will drop the Protect Ring and a Skeleton will drop a Broad Sword.

Creed's Mansion
After Creed has taken you to see Evil Spirit, you can wander around his
Mansion. Go to the room where Desktop Kingdom was, and search the square
behind the chair to find Running Ring. Go out the door into the garden
to find various items amongst the plants (Antidote & medical herb). When
you are going to leave, Creed will allow you to choose one of 4 characters
to take with you, either: Karna the Priest, Eric the Knight, Randolf the
Warrior or Tyrin the Mage. They are all on Level 24, though Karna is usually
considered the best choice (esp. when a Master Monk), and you can go back
later to get the others. Oddler will decide to stay here when you leave.
When you're out of his front door, walk to the left and go through the
bushes to reach a chest which contains Healing Rain. From here, go back
to the Dwarven Mine, with the fairy.
Dwarven Mine
The fairy will cure the sick dwarf and in return for your help, they will
give you the Cannon. Take this to New Granseal.
New Granseal
Go to the castle and talk to Astral, then talk to the man by the weapon
shop. He'll give you some dynamite which you can use with the Cannon.
Before you leave, Janet the archer will join, to be with Elric. Then go
up to North Cliff. One of the Dark Bishops in the next battle carries a
Blizzard that you can win.

On your arrival in North Parmecia, you'll go to the town of Ketto, which has
been taken over by the Devils. The Weapons Seller and the Priest are not in
their buildings, but around the town. The Priest is actually next to the
church but the Weapons Seller is a little more difficult to locate. You need
to go behind the far-right house and work your way through the bushes. you'll
find him on a little piece of land that juts into the water. He'll then take
you to his shop. There are Healing Water and Bright Honey in Ketto. After
thebattle to Pacalon, Higins will join (during the battle you can win the
Black Ring).

Pacalon
There is a lot to be found in Pacalon, including the Pegasus Wing, Medical
Herb, Fairy Powder and some Mithril. The Mithril is in the treasury, which
can be reached with a bit of work: when you go in the top-left room of the
castle, next to the wall you'll be able to see some stairs and a group of 3
stones. To get to the stairs, just walk through the wall opposite the stones
(they are a marker) and you can then use them to reach the treasury. The
Pegasus Wing is at the bottom of the blue carpet from the throne room. Walk
down it, on the right (but on the carpet) and search the wall, using A. A lot
of people seem to have problems finding it, but I promise you it's there!
There is also a Cheerful Bread in a vase in the house next to the church. A
girl in Pacalon will tell you to find a route through the mountains to the
North to reach Mitula in Tristan, on your way, you'll go past a part of the
mountains that points up, search the peak of this to find a piece of Mithril.

more details. Go to the left and you'll find a chest (containing a
Critical Sword) and a doorway. Through the doorway there is a statue,
search it and Taya will join you. In the rest of that passage are
another 2 chests, containing Power Water and Healing Seed. Then go to
the door on the right side of the shrine and you'll find another chest
(containing a piece of Mithril) and through the door, a lot of statues:
these are the Story Tellers of Tristan. Search them in order and
they'll explain some more. on your way out of Tristan, Skreech will
join (if he fell on you at Bedoe). Now return to Pacalon.

Talk to Vicar Frayja in the throne room, and he'll go with you to Moun.
As you leave the castle and enter the town, you'll be confronted with
a battle.

After this, you'll meet Zynk, who'll take you to their underground hideout.
Search the barrels and vases to find Running Pimento and Angel Wing. Talk
to the people here and Gyan will join the force. When you go out of the
passages, the people have re-inhabited their homes and will ask you to take
away the Arm of Golem. To get it, you need to walk on/search the top left
square, then the arm will appear. Search it to pick it up. You need it to
get Claude to join later in the game. From here, go through the West Gate
to Nazca.

the Nazca Ship, in which you'll travel back to Grans Island. Before you do
this return to the South, to Creed's Mansion.
Creed's Mansion
When you return, you'll find the place has been damaged pretty bad. Goliath,
Creed's Servant, will inform you that Oddler remembered something and went
psycho. He thinks that Creed fell into the sea and died. If you speak with
the three characters you rejected earlier in the game, they'll all be
willing to join you now. Once they've joined, head back to the North to fly
the Nazca Ship.

Walk into the 'eye' of the ship to enter it. Inside you'll find the Nazca
Cannon, a weapon. Say when you're ready to go, and then you're on your way
back to your homeland and to the dark realm of Arc Valley...

Roft
You can find a Healing Drop in a chest below the Weapons Store and a Blizzard
in a chest to the left. Here you'll be told more about the Dwarven Blacksmith
and where he lives. You'll also meet Petro (his Grandfather was the one who
showed you where the old magic tunnel to Grans was), who dies soon after you
arrive. This is not all that bad really, as after his death, Zynk decides to
join. When you've finished here, follow the little path along the coast which
is south of Roft. You'll cross a few bridges to reach the entrance to a cave.
Claude's Cave
Claude the Good Golem is here, and you'll need to use the Arm of Golem to make
him join. If you don't have it he'll just complain, however, despite the fact
that the Nazca Ship can no longer be used, there is still a way to return to
the mainland to get his arm (and any mithril you happen to have missed you'll be going to get it made into weapons soon). All you need do is go to
the bottom of Claude's Cave, on the left you'll find a few squares that have
a sort of brown engraved panel on them, one of these will open up the way to
the Magic Tunnel. From here you can go back to Parmecia, and use the tunnel
to go back to Grans (so if you forgot to go back for the other 3 characters
at Creed's Mansion you can do it now).
Prism Flowers
Once you have gotten Claude, head back out from the coastal pathway, and then
to the Prism Flowers battle. Try not to get in a horizontal or vertical line
from them, as they have lasers. You might notice another chest in this
battle, but it too can only be reached in the Japanese version of the game
- it contains a Valkyrie. This is a good fight to replay to gain more
experience.

Dwarven Town
After you have defeated Lemon, head to the part in the river that looks
a little dented in both sides. This is where you use the Dry Stone to
reach the Dwarven Town in Grans Forest. Here you can find a Healing Water
(chest on the right, outside); the Demon Rod (in a vase) and also the
White Ring (chest on the left, outside). This is the place where you get
the BlackSmith to make you some weapons with the mithril you have
collected on your travels. Have a look at the Mithril Weapons Section to
find out more about this. When you're done here, head south towards Galam.
Galam
In Galam you'll hear about the Devil's Head Statue and also find out some
more about Lemon. Not a lot else to do here except finding a Healing Water
in the treasury and the Evil Shot amongst the bushes outside the Northern
Gate. Head towards Yeel, on the way you'll have a battle (in which you can
win a Buster Shot and a Fairy Tear).

The town appears deserted, but don't be fooled by that. Go into the bar
and play on the piano. This will cause a stairway to open up in the church.
Even though a the priest tries to scare you away, if you persist he'll have
to let you in. In the tunnels under Yeel, Chaz will join the force and
you'll learn more of the plot. You can find a Quick Chicken and the Evil
Knuckles here. When you go to leave you can either speak to Lemon and make
him join or just ignore him. Either way he'll end up in the force
eventually. Now leave the town and head south. You'll have to kill the Hydra
to win the next battle, in which you can also win the Evil Ring and a
Holy Thunder.

South Shrine
After a the you'll reach the South Shrine. If you didn't collect the
mithril here at the start of the game, you can now (but you'll have to go
back to the Blacksmith again). Inside the Shrine you'll find a Power Water
and the Holy Sword. When you find the sword you'll have to search using A
to pull it loose, and it will then be named the Force Sword. It will tell
you that 'something opened somewhere', which means that the chest on the
floor above can be reached now. It contains an Evil Axe. Now you should be
ready to head into the last few battles of the game.
Devil's Head
When you arrive at the Devil's Head statue, there appears to be no way
inside, and it should be like this in order for you to reach the Evil Lance
behind it (you need to work your way through the 'trees'). Once you have this,
you can then use the Force Sword at the mouth of the Statue (as the Story
Tellers in Tristan told you to) to open it. If you passed Lemon by in Yeel,
he'll join you now. Inside the head you have a maze to get through - see the
new map (on my site) if you get stuck! After the maze, you'll meet up with
an old friend: Oddler, but now you must fight him, as he is the Greater
Devil Lord OddEye! He's very tough to kill and you need to be careful during
the fight as the central and north-eastern sections of the battlefield crumble
away, taking occupants of the spaces with them. You can win a Counter Sword
and a Fairy Tear in this battle.

has about 500HP and 180MP and uses a LV2 Demon Breath, fortunately, he can't
move, but to counter this he often gets 2 attacks). Make sure you kill all
the others before him, or they'll use the Healing Rain which they carry
(you can win one of these in the battle). My strategy for Zeon is to keep
most of them away from him, and just send in one at a time. When they need
healing, send a healer in. Keep them there until they die, then send someone
else in. Only use Bowie when it's certain that he can kill Zeon in one go.

3. Whenever I go to fight the big guy in armour (The Taros), he just tells me
to go away. How do I fight him?
You need the Achilles Sword. Look at the list of important items for how to
get this. Visit Rohde when you've got it, and he'll go to the Taros (the guy
in Armour) with you. You can fight him now, but only the Achilles Sword can
damage him.
4. Rohde always tells me that he's busy and to come back later. When I do,
he says the same. How can I make him join me?
See above answer.
5. When I go back to Yeel, after I've been to Parmecia, the town is deserted.
What am I supposed to do here?
Play the Piano and a stairway will open up in the church.
6. On the west side of Pacalon Castle, I can see a stairway, but no way to
reach it.
To reach it is fairly simple: go inside the castle, to the room where you
can see the stairs outside. On the outside of the castle wall, there should
be a small group of stones. At this point there is a hole in the wall. Go
through this.
9. The Taros dropped his sword/Cameela dropped the Iron Ball. Nobody can
equip it, what does it do?
The Taros Sword casts a Bolt level 2 and the Iron Ball a Blaze 3, but no-one
can use them. Their only real use is to sell!
11. How many Mithrils are there and where are they located?
At my last count there were 15, and they are listed in section 3.vii
14. I can't get the UDUDLRLR.... cheat to work! What am I doing wrong?
If you don't hear the fanfare, then it's probably because you're still
holding UP when you press B or you're still holding B when you press
START. If you are using a ROM and emulator, the problem is usually the
joypad (for some reason). Try doing it on the cursor keypad instead.
16. Which are the best characters for the force / Which characters
do you usually use?
The characters themselves depend upon how good you have made them. Your
best bet is to take the best two of each basic class. If there aren't two
then take another from a different class. I usually have two Sword users
(the main character and a flier), two Healers (they all tend to get
bumped-off fairly fast without someone to look after them!), two
Magic-users (one who is best with Freeze, one who is best with Blaze),
two Warriors, two Knights and two Archers. I also usually plan my battles
ahead and keep to a few basic strategies, outlined on my tips page.
My Force often ends up as follows: Bowie, Sarah, Chester, Zynk, Karna,
Kazin, Slade, Peter, May, Gerhalt, Jaro and Chaz, but it really does
depend on who I build up. Any one of the characters is potentially
brilliant, but some take a little more time and effort.
17. I bought the game used, without the booklet, could you tell me
how to...
Well I could, but I'd rather you just had a look at the one I typed
out, see section 6.iv
I left a few bits out, but it's fairly complete.
18. Are you going to make a page/FAQ about Shining Force 1 or Shining
Force CD?
I'm currently working on my Shining Force Guide, and I'm planning to make
sites for the Game Gear games (2 of which became Shining Force CD), but
don't expect anything too quickly, I'm very short on time. See Shining
Force Central for links to hundreds of Shining Force sites online.
19. Are there any Game Genie/Action Replay codes for Shining Force 2?
Yes, although it was thought for a long time that there were no such
cheats. See section 7.ii for more info.
20. When I tried to equip Lemon with a weapon, it didn't work, what's
wrong?
This is an Emulator-only bug, for which there is only one remedy. You
need to download the GenEdit program from my downloads page and use
it to edit the saved game. Like this you can equip him with whatever
you like.
21. How do I use the promotion items (and can I promote a Paladin to
Pegasus Knight/Gladiator to Baron/Vicar to Mastermonk/Sniper to Brass
Gunner/Wizard to Sorcerer)?
To use the promotion items make sure a character is holding the item
(ie: it's not in the caravan) when you go to the priest for a promo.
He will automatically offer to use the item to promote to the special
class, but you can refuse if you want to save it fo someone else.
Remember that characters can only be promoted once, so for example
Chester can go from Knight to Paladin or Knight to Pegasus Knight but
not from Paladin to Pegasus Knight or from Pegasus Knight to Paladin.
22. Whenever I save a game and power-down, each time I go back to play
Another useful idea is to make sure that the Knights each have a spear and
a lance. The lances may be more powerful, but on those occasions when distance
is needed in an attack, it is good to be able to equip them with a spear and
get in that extra attack that they couldn't have done with a lance.
Many of the weapons and rings can be used as well as equipped, often having
the same effect as a magic spell. Useful if you need to save your MP's for
the main guardian. The Halberd and Heat Axe are especially good.
Always check the stats of the monsters farthest away from you: the one with
the best stats is usually the main guardian. If you aim to reach him and kill
him first, the others will die too. This does, however, mean that you miss
out on a lot of experience points and money.
Don't just try to 'up' one character's stats, the others will fall way behind
and so weaken your force. However, you should always try to help characters
who are not so good. The best way to do this is to use your best characters to
'down' the enemy's HP to their last few and then let the weaker characters
finish them off. This keeps the experience spread out fairly even.
Keep an eye on the land effect (a high land effect decreases movement range),
and remember: it doesn't affect fliers.
The above is not exactly true, though I thought it was for several years.
Although areas of high land effect often coincide with difficult terrain,
that is not always the case. For example, a centaur's movement range is not
hampered on grass, which has a L.E. of 15%. However, their movement is
severely restricted in the desert, which also has a L.E. of 15%. Furthermore,
creatures like Slade, Kiwi, and Gerhalt (when promoted) are not hampered by
different terrain, even though the L.E. may be anywhere from 0% to 30%.
What land effect actually does is to increase the characters defense. For
example, if Bowie has a DEF of 10 and he is standing on a path (which has a
L.E. of 0%), his defense is increased by 0%, and so it remains at 10. If he
walks over to a grassy or sandy area (which both have L.E. of 15%), his
defense increases by 15%, so his DEF is now 11.5. Likewise, if he is standing
in weeds, shrubs, trees, or rocks, the L.E. is 30%, giving him a DEF of 13.
Flyers (like Peter and PGKTs) cannot "hide" among the trees, etc. which is why
their L.E. is always 0%, and therefore their DEF is never augmented (except
for Boost, of course).
So, the best strategy for using L.E. to your advantage is to move weak or
near death characters just inside the bushes, trees, etc., and never let
anyone stand on the path. Also, since L.E. applies equally to your enemies,
try to attack them when they are standing in grass, sand, or especially when
they are standing on the path.

There is a difference between 'flying' and 'hovering' characters. Flying
characters ignore all terrain and always have a Land Effect (ie Defense Bonus)
of 0%. In addition, they can pass over high mountains. Hovering characters,
however, do get terrain bonus (Kiwi is an example of such a character, after
promotion). They can move freely through every type of terrain and can hover
over water, but they CANNOT pass high mountains and certain other obstacles.

It's not a race so don't be afraid to take your time to plan ahead, it could
save your life.
Always stock up well on healing seeds whenever possible. There are times where
you can't get to a store for several battles without having to retrace your
reach level 40 (the maximium level) them promote them, so they will MUCH
stronger than they would if you had promoted them right away.

Hello there...I have a trick for achieving the best possible fair level for
any character you want...(This could be considered cheating by some, but
there's no special trick)...On the turn right before the desired character
is to go up a level (such as 99 experience and a monster right next to you),
quit from the battle and reset the game. Then, start up your game and fight,
to go up a level. If, for example, Kiwi gets 1 attack, 1 defense, and 1
agility, or any other bad level-up, you could reset it and get another level
where he might get a 1 HP, 2 attack, 1 defense, and 1 agility. I suggest using
this trick exclusively on Bowie and Kiwi because sometimes it takes several
tries to get a good level increase. If you don't understand the instructions,
just email me back and I will clarify.

i found the easy way to use the fairy woods special stage to get fast level
ups.
for healers w/ aura + boost spells, just place your party into the ideal
formation for maximum coverage and cast them like crazy.
for fighters, you have to actually enter the woods, with two filers. monsters
will only appear if the spot they will occupy doesn't have something blocking
it, or if they're already there. so what i do is have a flier (Peter) block
the spot where the mist demon appears, and then move the party around to just
keep on killing the lesser demon.
when the monster begins to give less xp, just block their spot and move deeper
into the woods. i found that first lesser demon, the two center mist demons,
a harpy, a dark madam, and an orc lord all get regenerated.
i've managed to get everyone up to level 40 BEFORE promotion, and then up
to level 22 before the mist demons start giving only about 20xp when killed.
hope this helps others, cuz i wish i figured this out earlier.

I have a practically foolproof way to gain experience quickly and easily.
Two words: Protect Ring. You really only need one for my trick to work, but
if you want to return to the battle on the way to Creeds, which is probably
worth more in the long run, feel free. And now, the trick. I realized that
by using the Protect Ring on a crowd of five people at the most, the effect
is that of a Boost level 1, which grants the caster, usually of a clerical
class, 25 exp maximum. Whenever say, Zynk uses it: same effect. The only
drawback is that eventually the rings will crack, which is why I think its
wise to reset the game before using the ring. With the config code, as you
know, you can make the Dark Maiden drop the Protect Ring over and over
again, until the cows come home, which they won't because apparently people
don't eat beef in Shining Force 2. Boost level 2 is also an inexpensive
way to raise Karna's or Sheela's levels at a rapid pace, without the downside
of cracking rings. But like I said, theres a way to get around that, which
is simply save the game before you use it. The most ideal place to do this
without using the config mode code is the battle against Zeon. After
defeating all the enemies, simply stay from his demonic halitosis, and
charge up. I had Kazin shoot up fifty levels in that battle. The reason
why I say this is the best battle to do that in is because if you save
and reset, depending on whether or not the ring cracks, you don't really
need the config code, which can be death on cold thumbs. Attaining level
ninety-nine characters is virtually an inescapable prospect using my
method. I just hope I didn't cover it in too much doubletalk for you to
understand, no offense of course.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------8. WALKABOUT OPTIONS
In non-battle situations, such as walking around a town, you can access your
Walkabout options by pressing A or C. If your leader is standing next to
someone, start o conversation by pressing C. Likewise, standing in front of an
item and pressing C allows you to check the item out. You may find something
useful!
i) Member
Select this option to see information about a character. Move the highlight
box to the name of the character you wan to see. Press the D-pad left or right
for points of information and press A or C to access his or her Statistics
chart.
ii) Item
If you want to use an item that one of your characters is carrying, select
this and a second set of options appears on the screen (see later for items
options)
iii) Search
Use this to open treasure chests, take a look at objects and explore areas
that look suspicious. You will be required to use this command in certain
situations.
iv) Magic
This command allows you to use magic spells (see later section)
Note:
With the exception of Detox and Egress spells, magic spells do not work in
non-battle areas.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------9. ITEM OPTIONS
These options allow your characters to do various things with the items
they're carrying. First choose what you want to do with the item. Next
highlight the character who is carrying the item. The items each character is
carrying are displayed. press the D-pad in the direction of the desired item
to highlight it, and press A or C. To leave the window, press B.
i) Use
This command lets you use any item that any of your characters are carrying.
ii) Equip
Use this to equip a character with a weapon.
iii) Drop
Use this to discard an item that someone is carrying.
iv) Give
Use this to transfer items between characters. Select the item as explained
above and then the character you'll give it to.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------10. SHOP OPTIONS
There are usually two shops in every town - one selling weapons, the other
selling special items and healing potions. They often have a sign outside with
either a bottle or a sword on it. Step inside, walk up to the counter, press C
and the shopkeeper will ask you what you want.
i) Buy
When buying, use the D-pad to highlight your choice and press A or C to select
it. The shopkeeper will give you the price. Press the D-pad to highlight YES,
then select the character who will receive the item. You can refuse a purchase
by either selecting NO and pressing button A or C or just by pressing B at
any time.
Note:
If a character can't use a weapon, the shopkeeper will ask if you still want
to buy it. Don't buy an item you can't use unless you're going to transfer it
to another character.
ii) Sell
When selling an item, highlight the character who has the item you want to
sell and press A or C. Next highlight the item. The shopkeeper will give you
a price: take it or leave it, as in buying.
iii) Repair
If you want an item repaired, highlight the character who has the damaged
item and press A or C, then select the item.
iv) Deals
If you want to know what the special items on sale are, select this option.
You can buy them as described in part (i)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------11. CARAVAN OPTIONS
You will undoubtedly run across an odd fellow named Dr. Rohde in your travels.
He has spent his life studying books that explain a special magic called
'mechanics'. Eventually you'll come across an ancient machine called a
Caravan, and if anyone can get it working again, he's your man. And what good
is the caravan to you? Read on!
To use the Caravan, just move the Leader over it and press C. The following
options appear:
i) Join
This command allows you to change members of the force when you have over 12
people. Just select who you want from the 'spares' and then choose who will
leave the team in their place.
ii) Item
Same as in section 9.
iii) Purge
Use this to place members of the party in the Caravan when they're not needed.
Note:
You can place as many characters in the Caravan as you want (except the
leader), but it may be safer in battles to have too many as opposed to having
too few.
iv) Depot
Store excess items in the Depot for later use.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Before your character moves, press B and either select (with A) an enemy, one
of your team-mates or a piece of land, with the white brackets. You'll gate
these options if you select the land, if not you'll get the stats of the
person you selected.
i) Map
Will bring up a map of the battle ground. Green dots represent your team,
red ones are the monsters.
ii) Member
Check the stats of a member.
iii) Quit
Exit the game. It'll save your current position in the battle.
iv) Speed
Choose the speed you want messages displayed at, or switch them off
altogether.
Note:
Use the Egress spell to retreat from the battle if it gets too much! Your
HP will be restored but curses or poisons will remain and must be cured.

___iii. Special Codes_________________________________________________________
These codes were given to me by Mark Arnold (arnoldb@mail.minet.ca). As yet I
have not tried them (I don't have the right control pad) I cannot give you
assistance of any kind with them.
Remember, I didn't discover these, and all credit goes to Mark for them. If
you have trouble with them, you can mail him (not me, I'm clueless!).
:::::: The Codes ::::::
These are exactly as he gave me them, so don't mail me about any typos!
BTW: I've heard from a couple of people that it's possible to do the codes
without the programmable controller, but only the Battle Options and Battle
Select ones. Apparently, you just need to press the buttons really fast, but
it can take up to 15 minutes to get it working.
I've found out the code I forgot plus some other things (such as walk on
anything). I've decided to send all the members of Moogiechat a copy. Please
spread this around to people who want it. Thanks.
To use these codes you need an accessory for your Genesis (a special
controller or something like that) that will allow you to program buttons
in certain order (I use a "Power Plug", but you can probably use any special
controller or accessory). When you do this you usually have to designate a
button the one to be programmed. For an example say that you want to program
in: UP, RIGHT, LEFT, DOWN, B, C. You would program that in to any button,
let's say "C". Then when ever you pressed "C" your accessory would put in
the thing you programmed (UP, RIGHT, LEFT, DOWN, B, C) instead of "C". Once
that's done you have to put "C" on turbo (Turbo is a command on accessories
of Genesis that allow the button to be repeated very fast.), so your
accessory will enter UP, RIGHT, LEFT, DOWN, B, C repeatedly very fast. So
then you just have to hold down "C" and the thing that you programmed in
(UP, RIGHT, LEFT, DOWN, B, C) will go very fast and repeatedly. Just for
you people who don't know what a fanfare is, it's the noise that happens
when you put the configuration code in, but it sounds evil. Also, I have
the American version so I can't verify the code for the other versions (it
should still work, so e-mail me if something goes wrong).
1) Battle Options: This first code allows you to do the configuration code,
walk on anything (except rivers), attack any character, use any spell, use
any item, shows surrounding enemies, makes characters explode, shows secret
messages, and changes all movements (all of these are ONLY battle options,
except for the configuration code and the walk on anything code): Okay,
first of all program into your controller: UP, RIGHT, LEFT, DOWN, B, C. Then
put the button that you designated to hold the code on turbo. Reset the
Genisis (megadrive). Immediatly after you reset the Genesis (the screen is
black) hold down the button that you designated to be the one with the code.
When the Sega logo appears you should hear an evil fanfare. Now let go of
the button. Then you can do the last part of the configuration code if you
want to (hold down C & START when you select your quest). Go to a battle
and choose the attack or magic option. When you're able to move the cursor
around to choose somebody, hold down START and press A. A little box should
come up in the upper right corner. Then you can change the numbers in the
box. The game will freeze if you press "B" anytime the numbers are in the
corner and sometimes (but not often) your character will lose their weapon
-MAKE SURE EVERYBODY HAS THEIR WEAPONS BEFORE SAVING. When you're out of
the battle you can walk on anything except rivers if you hold down "B"
(this allows you to do plenty of things such as get those treasure chests
in the Prism Flower Battle {valkerie} and outside Mitula's Shrine {shining
ball}).
0=attack any character: Once you select this more numbers will come up
(0 and 159). Here are the characters numbers:

The enemies numbers vary and the game will freeze if you select a number

with is Bowie. You can walk over anything by holding down "B" as youy move.
If you die, you'll either start where you started with the code, or you'll
be transported to an unwalkable territory outside Mitula's Shrine. I you
get transported to Mitula's Shrine just hold down "B" and walk to land.
In battles, you can use the Battle Options listed at the top of the page.
You can save here, but it will record over the game in the first position.
------------------------------------------------------------------------4) Control the evade, heavy attack, double attack, and counter attack:
This one just happens by itself about 40% of the time that you put in the
first code I told you about. What will happen is right before your about
to attack/use magic, those "yes or no heads" appear. The first one that
appears controls evade. The second one that appears controls heavy attacks.
The third one that appears controls double attacks. And finally the
fourth one that appears controls counter attacks.
Finally, that's all the codes. If you find out something that I don't
know how to do (what 0-3 means in the item select, what B. Rock does,
what Laser does, what Powder does, and what Fairy Powder does, how the
numbers operate in the start anywhere code, what the numbers in the
second two squares of the battle select code do, anything secrets you
find within these codes), please let me know. Please give me credit for
this. You also might be able to do these codes without the special
accessories. I've tried to find out how, but I couldn't.
Note: I didn't say you CAN I said you MIGHT be able to do them without
specail accessories.

____iv. Secret Villages_______________________________________________________
As far as I know, there are only two secret villages: the Dwarven Town on
Grans Island, and the Elven Town in South Parmecia. Neither of these are very
difficult to reach.
:::::: The Elven Town ::::::
After you get the Caravan, you travel along the dried up river to reach Creed.
As you come off the river, there is the little cave with the sick dwarf. To
the left of this is a clump of bushes. One square of this is a lot lighter,
this is where the village is.
To the east side of the village is a game-within-the-game. It's basically a
battle with one main monster who creates more monsters. Kill the main one
and the battle ends. Your time to complete the fight is recorded and added
to the list of times. It's tough to beat, but it's good for a laugh. To get
there, go clockwise around the outside of the houses and then when you've
got the mithril in the bottom-right, follow the 2-hole clearing through to
the right and you're there.
There is also a quicker route to get to it, which can be seen in a map on my
site at http://shining.zophar.net/shf2/
to kill all the Greater Devils, Zeon and a few other characters. If you look
at the map of this battle, you'll see that it's in the shape of Sonic the
Hedgehog!
