Framework

The mobile devices of today present a great opportunity for building large-scale mobile
sensing and information sharing systems that could be used for emergency situations and rescue
scenarios. Usually in large catastrophes, one of the first things that gets effected is the mobile cellular
network, either by the loss or damage of the infrastructure, or by the high levels of congestion in the
cellular network. In this case the use of the sensory and communication capabilities of a
smartphones, table or any other mobile device that requires a connection to the cellular network
would be useless. Using ad-hoc networks (MANET), we can get around this problem, by using
smartphones and all the other mobile devices to create a dynamic temporary network that can share
information between them selves without the need for any additional infrastructure.

In this project after considering Wireless Mesh Networks

(WMN) architecture and characteristics and more specifically mobile

ad hoc networks MANET, the different routing protocols such as
AODV and OLSR will be taken into account. In this work we aim to
study the MANET in emergency scenarios where groups of
rescuers must be on site to accomplish emergency tasks, which is
necessary to establish a wireless communication in real time
between individuals or groups. The urban area, the mobile units
and the application will be simulated using the OMNET++. Then,
we illustrate the deployment of this application on a 20-nodes
MANET with different routing protocols to compare the
performance of each of which then recommend the optimal routing
protocol. It also needs to mention that the problem of having to
maintain routing and addressing coherency in a constantly
changing network topology is the fundamental problem associated
