1. Introduction
This manual is intended to give such information
that the operator may:
- understand the function of a GSM Tower
Mounted Booster (TMB) System on a site.
- be able to communicate with the system via site
LAN or service terminal.
- understand the alarm types and error messages
- be able to make necessary gain adjustments
etc.
This manual deals only with the components and
sub-units included in the TMB System.
The staff should be trained and/or certified to
perform the works described in this manual in
accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
operator must read and follow the instructions and
recommendations of this manual in any work on
the GSM TMB of Radio Components.

The CU
- is designed to control and monitor up to three
TMB units.
- logs operational data from the boosters.
CU
- servs as a communication link between Boosters and RBS/BTS.
- is a communication link for settings and service,
via a connected terminal.

5. System description
The downlink GSM signals from the RBS/BTS
are forwarded directly to the TMB via the Current
Injectors and RF feeder cables.
Full band DPX filters and high power amplifiers,
with adjustable gain, in the TMB perform the filtering and power amplification of the downlink signal to the desired output power level.
An automatic gain control in the module keeps the
gain of the TMB at the selected level.

6. Operation
During operation on the site the CU communicates
with the TMB, to check status and, if a fault occurs, send alarm to the external alarm interface
of the RBS/BTS.
6.1 Settings
B alarm
The unit works, but has a minor error that needs
maintenance attention before the unit fails completely.
Example: Minor gain loss for a TMB.
6.2 Status
The CU determines the current status of each
connected TMB by polling it once a second.
The CU also reports its own status.
6.3 Alarms
The alarm status is:
- sent via the external alarm connectors output
on the CU.
- shown by LEDs on the front panel of the CU.
Page 8
Normal
The unit works properly
A alarm
The unit has a fatal error and does not work at all.
It needs immediate maintenance/replacement.
Example: Major gain loss for a TMB.
In case of a major failure or power break down,
the CU will present both A and B alarm to the external alarm interface.

Software requirements
Terminal emulating program
Terminal emulating program (Hyper Terminal or
similar program capable of emulating a VT100
terminal).
USB Port Driver
When using the USB port, a device driver for USB
must be installed on the PC/Laptop before running the terminal emulation program, Hyper Terminal or similar program capable of emulating a
VT100 terminal.
The device driver required for this purpose is a
virtual COM port (VCP) driver. VCP drivers are
available for different operating systems.
Download the latest available VCP driver from the
FTDI chips website: http://www.ftdichip.com/
Select the VCP driver suitable for device FT245BM
and the Operating System of the PC/Laptop.
To install the VCP driver on the PC/Laptop, follow
the instructions of the Installation Guide, also available for download from the same website.
Examples of terminalemulating
programs:
- Tera Term
- Kermit
- Procomm
- xterm
- SimPC
- CrossTalk
Important
Before visiting a site in order to connect to
the CU, make sure that:
- the correct software is installed on the
PC.
- you bring cables necessary for connecting your PC to the CU.

Command syntax
To communicate with the CU, use the following syntax:
aisgctl <addressed device> <command> <parameter> <value>
where:
- aisgctl is the program name
- addressed device is the CU or a sector number,
page 16.
- command is the desired action, page 20.
- parameter is the parameter you want to set or get information of, page 21.
- value is the value for gain, voltage, temperature etc.

Addressed device
The following synonyms are used as <addressed device> to set values or get information from the
TMB:s.

second part of the channel synonym is the address of the unit. The TMB has the address
01 as default.

RX-gain
The TMB control system keeps the received gain
equal to set gain over temperature range.
TX-gain
The control system is designed to keep the transmit gain equal to set gain. The system reacts differently depending on input power:
Power out
45.5 dBm
Power in
Linear behavior.
Gain is adjusted
over temperature
and frequency.
Gain = set gain.
