Brochure
Description:
Brochure advertising a healthy lifestyle

Programs:
InDesign

Photoshop

Date:
March 28, 2015

Course/Instructor:
Comm 130-07/ Joel Judkins

Objectives:

Create a brochure including a logo, 4 clear images, and body copy

Process:

As I worked on this brochure, I created the layout in InDesign. It was nice to be able to
use the rulers to mark the folds. I used Photoshop to cut out shapes and the words on
the edge of the brochure. I had t make sure that I separated them from the background
so that when I got them in InDesign, I could text wrap them. I used Illustrator to create
the flower that is used in the logo and on the front of the brochure.

Montage
Description:

An inspirational montage blending two pictures and using typography to hit the message
home.

Programs:
Photoshop

Date:
Feb 14, 2015

Course/Instructor:
Comm 130-07/ Joel Judkins

Objectives:

Blend pictures to create a pleasing inspirational image.

Process:

I used google to find two images that I felt would go well together. Then I used Photoshop to add masks to my images. I used the lasso tool and the brush tool to feather the
edges of the children so that it slowly blended into the picture of the ripples. Then I used
the brush tool to opaque the pictures a little so they blended even more. I used a filter to
add some contrast to the different levels and then I darkened some of the edges. I used
my typography and added an overlay to it and masks to lighten the behind the words so
they would stand out more. Overall, I think it worked out well.

Flier
Description:

Black and white flier to promote a leadership conference for people looking to develop
leadership skills

Programs:
InDesign

Date:
Jan 23, 2015

Course/Instructor:
Comm 130-07/ Joel Judkins

Objectives:

Create a flier that would attract people to a leadership conference. Wanted it to catch the
eye and be unique.

Process:

To begin the process for this project, I drew some sketches to get ideas going through
my head. I then began to design the flier in InDesign with the image, logo and content. I
wanted a strong focal point to the flier, so I began with a black box with a strong indent
(main focal point). I lined the text up with the strong indent and kept that focal point going through the whole thing to draw the eye to the title.

Photodesign Redo
Description:

I really was not liking my original photodesign project so I decided to do another one and
see if I liked it better. I did . I felt like it was a lot better.

Programs:
Photoshop

Date:

April 1, 2015

Course/Instructor:
Comm 130/ Joel Judkins

Objectives:

Create a flier/ad using pictures taken by self. Alter them using Photoshop and make use
a color scheme.

Process:

I used a picture that I had taken for the original photodesing project. After playing with
the colors and making sure that it looked ok, I cut it out in the shape of a circle. Then I
opened a new documnet that was 8.5x11. I dragged the temple picture over to that and
I added a blue background that was around the same color as the sky. After that I added
the different shaped circles behind the picture. I had to really play around to figure out
how to get the cirle outlines because the shapes in PhotoShop dont have a stroke. What I
ddi was I selected the layer and went to modify-contract to whatever size I wanted. Then
I deleted the inside of the shape that had contracted. I would then color the outline and
move it to where I wanted it. It all came together nicely when I put the text in. The saying
and color scheme tied in nicely when I used the same font. ww

I created a webpage describing how I created my logo

Programs:
Text Wrangler
Photoshop

Date:
March 14, 2015

Course/Instructor:
Comm 130-07/ Joel Judkins

Objectives:

Create a web page that would display my created logo. I wanted it to explain my reasoning and how I designed my acutal logo.

Process:

I mainly used different HTML and CSS skills and codes. The program I used for that was
TextWrangler and I used Photoshop to save my logo, but the majority was done in TextWrangler. I used a HTML to put all of the text into my page. Then I attached a CSS document to the HTML and I used that to change the entire look of the page. I got the colors
by using the eye dropper in photoshop to get the hex codes of the colors on my logo.

Business Card
Description:

A personal logo used on matching business card and letterhead

Programs:
Adobe Illustrator

Date:
Feb 26, 2015

Course/Instructor:
Comm 130-07/ Joel Judkins

Objectives:

Create a business card for a company. Create an entire logo in Illustrator and make it so
it could be small enough for busniess card, but big enough for blimp.

Process:

For the letterhead, I used a font that would let me form the S into a foot. As I played
around with the diff sizes of that and found a good one, I created 5 circles for toes. I copied that image and made it opaque for the background. At the top and bottom I inserted
a colored box to make the footprints stand out. The footprints are from the former logo
with the footprints across it.
The business cards used the same logo, so all I had to do was make the footprints going up the left side and copy the S foot over. All this was done in Adobe Illustrator. I am
starting to get the hang of Illustrator.

Event Ad
Description:

This is a color full-bleed poster to promote a temple clean up using Microsoft Word and a
scanner

Programs:
Microsoft Word

Date:
Jan 28, 2015

Course/Instructor:
Comm 130-07/ Joel Judkins

Objectives:

Create an ad for an event using only Microsoft word to help prepare self for limited resources in time of need.

Process:

The only programs I used were Microsoft word and the scanner was an Epson Perfection
V500 Photo. I scanned my picture into the computer and used Word to find colors that
were originally in the picture. I used the eye dropper/ magnifying glass to pull those colors out and create a small design in the corner. I wanted to keep it simple because that is
how the church is. Simple and straight forward.

Description:

Three logos for the same running shoe company

Programs:
Adobe Illustrator

Date:
Feb 21, 2015

Course/Instructor:
Comm 130-07/ Joel Judkins

Objectives:

Create 3 logos for same company. Idea is to make them uniqe enough that people would
be able to recognize them and associate them with their company, but simple enought
that they werent cluttery.

Process:

First I had to sketch out different ideas. I used the Anchor point tool and the shape tool
a lot to shape different things that I wanted in my images. I also use the pen tool to outline a few shapes that I used in my pictures mainly the shoe prints in the top logo. I used
the anchor point tool and shapes to create the sole in the middle logo. It worked out
really well to have basic shapes that I just blended. In the last logo I used the brush a lot
to just draw what I had in mind. Overall, it worked out well and was better than I thought
I could do.

Photodesign
Description:

A poster to demonstrate Photoshop skill in picture taking and design. Created a colored
design with my original photo.

Programs:
PhotoShop

Date:
Feb 7, 2015

Course/Instructor:
Comm 130-07/ Joel Judkins

Objectives:

Create a flier/ad using pictures taken by self. Alter them using Photoshop and make use
a color scheme.

Process:

I went out to take pictures of the project assigned with my cannon camera. As I reviewed
my pictures, I decided I liked the one with the cleaning supplies the most. So I opened it
in Photoshop and edited it using levels, sharpness, saturation, and color balance. From
there, I began designing from a previously though out plan. It didnt turn out at all how I
wanted so I restarted from scratch and came up with a new design. As I worked in Photoshop I used the pen tool a lot. I drew a lot of shapes free hand and used the shape tools
a lot. I really liked the balance that came from it. Overall, I think it is a good poster.
