Mayor Burnett called the meeting to order at 4:00 p.m.

Mayor Burnett announced the items on the Closed Session agenda. There were
no public comments. The Council adjourned to Closed Session.

The Closed Session was adjourned at 5:05 p.m. Item 3 was continued to
Tuesday, March 3, 2015 at 3:45 p.m.
WORK STUDY SESSION: State of the Forest Presentation
Mayor Burnett called the work study session to order at 5:35 p.m. Mike Branson,
City Forester provided an in-depth report. Questions and comments from the
Council and public followed. Ideas presented by Council and members of the
public included:

Need additional funding for tree replacement and tree watering;


Consider an in lieu fee for tree removal; or require tree planting
elsewhere for private property that meets tree density standards;
Develop a CIP or program budget for tree replacement based upon
type and number of trees needed and costs to plant and maintain;
Build a publicity program around the Tree Deposit Account;
Start an adopt-a-tree program;
Get public, schools, groups and organizations involved in tree
planting;
Consider a mass planting as part of the 2016 Centennial activities;
Reclaim the public right-of-way as locations for tree planting; and
Share the information presented tonight with the Forest & Beach
Commission to develop action items

ADJOURNMENT: There being no further business, Mayor Burnett adjourned the


meeting at 7:00 p.m.
