Brochure
Description: A two sided (duplex) folding brochure.
Programs: Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator
Date: March 28, 2015
Course: Visual Media Comm 130
Instructor: Joel Judkins
Objectives: Inform my audience about Orphanage Support Service Organization (OSSO). I am showing
them through the brochure what activities they will do while volunteering and the culture of Thailand.
Process:I first set up the measurements needed for the brochure to fold in Adobe InDesign. I made my
layout have one fold. The left flap would connect the picture of the front to the inside. I then found my
pictures from the internet and edited them in Adobe Photoshop. For the Buddha picture that has text
wrap around it, I used the selection tool to select just the Buddha out of the picture and made the
background white. I then used the refine mask tools to smooth the edges and added contrast to the
outside of the Buddha.
I then placed the Buddha into the InDesign document and used text wrap to wrap the text around the
alpha channel of the picture. I decided to add a black rectangle shape to add repetition with the logo
colors. The logo was designed in Adobe Illustrator. I used the shape tools to create the simple design of
the logo. I then rasterized the image and placed it into InDesign and cut it down so it would match with
the edges and folds when it was printed.

When

Have you ever wanted to experience Thailand and help

others while you travel? OSSO which stands for Orphanage
Support Services Organization is that opportunity. OSSO has
established orphanages in Cuenca and Quito Ecuador as well
as Mexico and has recently pushed its humanitarian efforts
outside of South America to Asia!

There are several sights to see and there will be a lot of

time spent in and out of the orphanages. Some of the
events outside of the orphanages include: The Tiger
Kingdom, riding an elephant, zip-lining, sight seeing in
Northern Thailand, and meeting new people.

Although these extra events add to the
adventure, volunteers all agree that you
dont need them to have a fulfilling
experience that you will never forget!
They are just the icing on the cake.
There is something special about
helping children who are without
parents, and even if you are
unable to speak the language
your efforts are needed and
appreciated.

Those who are interested must apply by June 1, 2015.

You must be at least 18 years old to attend. Thailand has
a rich and exotic culture and the orphans there need love
and care. Those who are looking for an adventure and
humanitarian opportunities will find both through OSSO.
Please contact Erica at gub10001@byui.edu if you would
like to volunteer this summer or want more information.
OSSO will be sending volunteers to Chiang Mai
Thailand starting summer of 2015. Those who
volunteer will be send on a two-week trip to evaluate
the orphanages needs and bring donations, as well as
establish a connection there.

Logos
Description: Three logos all designed for one company.
Programs: Adobe Illustrator
Date: April 3, 2015
Course: Visual Media Comm 130
Instructor: Joel Judkins
Objectives: Brand logos for a company. Hicks Honey is homegrown delicious and made with care.
These were made for consumers, honey farms, and factories.
Process: I first sketched several designs before trying to create them in Illustrator. To create the body
and wings of the bees on the top and bottom logo I used the shape tool in the form of an ellipse. I used
the line tool, and changed the sizes and directions of the shapes to make the rest of the bees. For the
honey comb in the center logo I just used the line tool. I added different stroke levels for contrast. I also
tried to find typography that matched well to the shapes/images and made that a big part of each logo.

Montage
Description: A montage made by blending two images together.
Programs: Adobe Photoshop
Date: February 14, 2015
Course: Visual Media Comm 130
Instructor: Joel Judkins
Objectives: Create a montage with a spiritual message. The message I chose was to pray always, not
just when you are stuck in a sticky situation.
Process: I used an advanced search on google to find two images that were high quality. I then made
the background image (the road scene) the size required for class (8.5x11). I then placed the praying
hands image into the picture and made a mask. I used the brush to blend the edges of the hands into
the background image. I then added appropriate typography. Filter/Colorization was used were I flipped
the image and changed the levels and color of the hands to black and white before inserting over the
road image.

Letterhead
Description: A letterhead based off of my best logo design.
Programs: Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign
Date: March 1, 2015
Course: Visual Media Comm 130
Instructor: Joel Judkins
Objectives: Incorporate my best logo into a letterhead and design a letterhead for a business, that also
matches business cards. These designs are for a Honey Farm.
Process: I created the logo in Adobe Illustrator using various shapes. I then placed the Illustrator file
(logo) into an Indesign document and incorporated it into the business card and stationary designs.
The stationary design has the logo twice, one is a large watermark and the other is the original logo
made small. I made the watermark by changing the opacity to 8%. On the business cards I contrasted
by making the background black and placing white text on it. The colors are very bold and so I chose to
go with simple fonts. The contact information is in 10 pt font on both the business cards and stationary to
match each other, and to contrast the other sized fonts.

Flier
Description: Flier for a Graduate Leadership Conference, with a black and white color scheme.
Programs: Adobe Indesign
Date: April 3, 2015
Course: Visual Media Comm 130
Instructor: Joel Judkins
Objectives: Create a flier that will persuade recent college graduates to attend a conference meant for
them that will teach them leadership skills.
Process: I created four different sketches of the design for the flier. I then selected my best sketch
and copied it the best I could in Adobe InDesign. I was given the logo, image, and text for my flier. I left
plenty of white space and tried to contrast with different shades of black and gray. I began the words left
aligned to start the flow in a clockwise circle.

Programs: Word, Adobe Photoshop
Date: Janurary 31, 2015
Course: Visual Media Comm 130
Instructor: Joel Judkins
Objectives: Create an advertisment in word for times I may not have advanced resources, or for others
to be able to make changes that do not know Adobe products.
Process: I scanned the picture of the desserts from a magazine. I then cropped it, and made necessary
changes in Photoshop. I then placed the image into a word document. After resizing, I added the text

Programs: Text Wrangler, Notepad ++ (HTML, CSS), Adobe Photoshop
Date: March 14, 2015
Course: Visual Media Comm 130
Instructor: Joel Judkins
Objectives: Create a website that incorporates the logo design and stationary.
Process: This was my first coding experience. I used Text Wrangler and Notepad ++ to code both the
HTML and CSS for this web page. I first added the HTML page and added links, titles, logos (which was
created in Adobe Illustrator), words and made changes there. I then linked my CSS page into my HTML
page, where I was able to add colors and dress up the web page. I used Adobe Photoshop to find more
color hex numbers.

I added some edits in Adobe Photoshop to the image. I then designed the layout in Adobe, and made
sure to match the colors with the eye dropper.
