Description:
A montage with
a spiritual message
Programs Used: Adobe
Photoshop
Date: February 14th, 2015
Course: Visual Media section 1
Professor: Corey Kerr
Objective: learn to blend two or more images
using masks, demonstrate advanced photoshop
skills, apply typography skills
Process: Using photoshop I took two google images, one
of a light shining under water, another of two people climbing
up rocks. I took about 2/3 of the picture of the climbers and
feathered the edges and layered it on top of the water photo.
Then I changed the opacity of the climbers to be about 70
percent. I did this in order to have some of the water behind
them. I wanted the image to have the feel that the climbers
were coming out of the water onto higher ground. Hence my
text. I tried to find quotes to match my message but couldnt
find anything simple enough.

Description:
create 3 different
logos for the same
business
Programs Used: Adobe
Illustrator
Date: February 21st, 2015
Course: Visual Media section 1
Professor: Corey Kerr
Objective: create three completely different, original logos
for a busniess or personal image, use only illustrator tools,
gather opinions from at least 10 differnet people
Process: I started out with a more simplistic design
with just some contrasting text and color scheme. I then
thought to use a basic, modern design of a camera using
gray scale and monochromatic red. I changed my whole
name to just initials and set them in the lens of the camera.
My last design was the outline of a camera framing the title.
Using similar colors throughout each of my designs but
changing the color scheme also changed the feel of each
designs. The monochromatic design was simplistic and
modern. The complementary design was to the point yet
bold. And the split complementary was dynamic and bold.

Description:
This flier is one to
draw in the attention
of graduates wanting to
be successful. The design
is modern and aims to send the
message of having a competitive
edge.
Programs Used: Adobe InDesign
Date: January 24th, 2015
Course: Visual Media section 1
Professor: Corey Kerr
Objective: apply design principles, incorporate InDesign skills
Process: I used the box tool to layout my picture, title, and text
boxes to get a feel of the flow. After I had my basic shapes down,
i first started with my title. I wanted the word GRADUATE to be
the boldest. Because that was my target audience. I found the
contrasting texts i wanted. I used a sans serif text for my body copy.
I then laid out the rest of my required elements in a way that was
simple and not too big, so I had a nicely shaped white space. Then
I thought to add the three boxes on each corner to create some
diagonal asymmetry.

Description:
Scan and use an
already printed image
and create an event ad
using that image..
Programs Used: Microsoft Word
Date: January 30th, 2015
Course: Visual Media section 1
Professor: Corey Kerr
Objective: comprehend image sizing, find, scan, and
import a high quality image, learn to use Word design features only
Process: The scanned picture came from a National GeographicTravel magazine. I scanned and cropped the picture adding a few
color and image changes to it. I then decided to pull the red color
from the boys shirt and decide on my color scheme from there.
I added the title of the event first then started layering rectangles
behind the text to 1) make the text pop and add color 2) create
dimension within the ad 3) add some flow as well.

Create a
multi-fold, double
sides, complete bleed
brochure..
Programs Used: Adobe
InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator
Date: March 29th, 2015
Course: Visual Media section 1
Professor: Corey Kerr
Objective: set up and align a two-sided,folded document, create an
original logo to use in the brochure, incorporate high quality images, write
at least a 250 word body copy
Process: The first thing I did was design a logo in Illustrator. I wanted
the text of the logo to match the name of the event (wave break surf
competition) so I designed the Wave text and then broke up the letters
so I could move them in a wave shape. The rest of the logo was fairly
simple just arranging words in the way I wanted them but wasnt too
complicated since it is the title of an event and need to be read. Then I
edited my front page photo to focus more on the surfer, otherwise the
photo didnt really draw the eye like I wanted it to. I painted over the photo
with a color selector and without intending the result it created something
I really liked. The rest of my brochure design was done in InDesign, with
the exception of clipping the surfer photo in photoshop

Description:
Take a photo
and use it to create
a design with an uplifting
message.
Programs Used: Adobe
Photoshop
Date: February 8th, 2015
Course: Visual Media section 1
Professor: Corey Kerr
Objective: apply basics of taking a quality photo, apply
basic photoshop skills to that photo, use layers to design text,
layout, and graphic elements
Process: When choosing my color scheme I noticed that
the area I was photographing had a lot of green so that made
choosing a color scheme for the photograph a bit more difficult. My
solution to that was to made the background black and white and
emphasize the brick and red. I then added orange to the design
to make a analogous color scheme. I placed the picture more
towards the left so that the lead space would direct the eye to the
word Relax. Then I added colored boarders around the picture to
draw the eye back into my focal point. To add my color swatches
I decided to add some asymmetry by added ellipses to contrast
with all the sharp lines.

Description:
Use an original
logo to create a
letterhead and stationery
Programs Used: Adobe
Illustrator
Date: February 28th, 2015
Course: Visual Media section 1
Professor: Corey Kerr
Objective: use basic skills of Illustrator and
InDesign, create new logo, use logo and other simple,
light design tools
Process: I created the logo first on my business card to
capture the color scheme that I wanted. I then grouped the logo
and pasted it into a blank document. I turned down the opacity
to about 15% and placed it in the lower right hand side of the
page. To create assymetry I added the name of the company in
the upper left hand corner using the same typography as in the
logo. I then added contact information down the line.

Programs Used: Adobe Illustrator

Course: Visual Media section 1
Professor: Corey Kerr
Objective: create new original logo, apply Illustrator
skills, create full bleed business card
Process: I used the box tool to create a guide for my
business card. I found the photo I wanted to use for the back
of the business card and chose a color scheme based off of the
colors in the image. Then I cut an ellipse in half and create the shape
of an umbrella light that photographers use. I then added contact
information and arranged the logo on the right side and my info on
the left. Then I placed the image into the box for the back. .
