OSDE EM UM CURSO DE CONVERSAO AVANADA EM LNGUA INGLESA
Uma vez que a educao formal vigente est primordialmente voltada para a
transmisso linear de conhecimentos, uma educao transformativa, que prime pela
construo colaborativa de saberes e pelo desenvolvimento de criticidade, se faz
necessria. No ensino de lngua inglesa, uma educao crtica se faz essencial
devido posio econmica, cultural e lingstica privilegiada do ingls. Partindo
deste pressuposto, esta pesquisa tem por objetivo investigar a aplicao da
metodologia Espaos Abertos para Dilogo e Questionamento (OSDE) no curso de
conversao avanada em lngua inglesa Other Worlds, que aconteceu no Centro de
Lnguas e Interculturalidade (CELIN) da Universidade Federal do Paran no primeiro
semestre de 2007. A partir da discusso sobre os pressupostos tericos que
embasam a metodologia OSDE, tais como o letramento crtico, a pedagogia da
autonomia de Paulo Freire, as relaes de poder na educao e a educao
sustentvel de Stephen Sterling, irei analisar como se deu a construo do espao
aberto para engajamento crtico com as diferentes perspectivas existentes no
mundo, proposta pela metodologia.

OPEN SPACES: AN INVESTIGATION ABOUT THE OSDE METHODOLOGY IN AN

ADVANCED ENGLISH CONVERSATION COURSE
As the current formal educational system aims mainly at the linear transmission of
knowledge, a transformative education which focuses on the collaborative
construction of knowledge and on the development of critical skills is necessary. In
English language teaching, a critical education is essential due to the privileged
economic, cultural and linguistic position that the English language holds. From this
assumption, the aim of this research is to investigate the use of the Open Spaces for
Dialogue and Enquiry methodology (OSDE) in the advanced English conversation
course Other Worlds, which took place at the Language Center (CELIN) of the
Federal University of Paran in the first semester of 2007. Starting from the
discussion about the theoretical assumptions underpinning the OSDE methodology,
such as critical literacy, Paulo Freires pedagogy of autonomy, power relations in
education and Stephen Sterlings sustainable education, I will analyse how the
construction of the open space for critical engagement with the different perspectives
in the world, suggested by the methodology, took place.
