Dear Student,

You might be aware of Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY), a programme started by
the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, to identify and encourage
students to pursue a career in Basic Sciences. Students selected through KVPY program are
eligible for direct admissions into the B.S., program of IISc., and Integrated M. Sc programs
of IISERs in addition to award of scholarships.
The details of KVPY (eligibility criteria, cut off scores, awardees list, previous year question
papers, scholarship details, etc) are available in the website www.kvpy.org.in. The
advertisement for applying for the test is usually published on 2nd Sunday of July.
Applications are to be filled online only. Relevant details in a nutshell are given below.
KVPY Students studying in 12th standard are eligible to appear for KVPY. Eligibility criteria :
Students who have scored more than the prescribed minimum marks in 10th std (Science +
Maths subjects) are eligible to take the KVPY written test.
Identification of students for award of the KVPY fellowship is done in two stages :Stage 1 (3 hour Aptitude test) : This is an objective type test conducted (both versions are
there - online / offline) on a Sunday in Oct / Nov each year. (Subjects for test - 12th std
student has a choice of either PCM or PCB). Only those students who score above the cut-off
percentage are eligible to participate in Stage 2 (Interview).
Stage 2 (Interview) : Only those students who qualify in the written test are called for
interview (Jan / Feb 2016).
Rank list declaration: A cut off percentage (based on combined score of written + interview)
is decided by the authorities for the award of the KVPY fellowship and rank list is declared
accordingly.
As part of the empowerment initiative, KVPY also offers fellowship to students who belong to
the SC, ST , OBC community and also to PH (Physically and visually challenged) students and
typically the cut off percentages for each category - GM (General Merit), SC, ST, PWD - is
different.
Last academic year from BASE, 48 students cleared the KYPY written test of which 44
students (from all programmes IIT JEE, Medical Excel and PU CET, both 11th and 12th std)
cleared the interview round and were declared KVPY fellows. We at BASE encourage and fully
support students to aim for the KVPY fellowship. Procedure is as follows:1. Registration: Students interested in KVPY need to register on or before 12th April 2015.

helping students to face the interview. All those students who have cleared the

help you in your quest to becoming a KVPY fellow, I strongly urge you to make full use of this
opportunity.

Note : Many students who have become KVPY fellows have chosen the Engg /
Medical profession. Yet they chose to become a KVPY fellow not for the sake of
scholarship but because this is a creditable achievement / permanent feather in
their cap and other things being equal, this gives them an added advantage over
others.
