INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME 2012

Project Outline & Milestones:

Project Outline
The main focus of this project is market research at the Riverside Museum. The
intern will work closely with the Visitor Studies Curator for Glasgow Museums to
carry out vital summative research to help staff understand how visitors are
engaging with the internal and external spaces at Riverside.
The main focus of the work will be carrying out visitor tracking. This will involve
observing individual/ groups of visitors during their visit to Riverside- watching how
they navigate the internal and/or external spaces- and then conducting a follow up
face-to-face interview with those visitors in question at the end of their visit.
Tracking will be dictated by the movements of the visitor/s in question and thus
shall take place both inside and outside the building, as we are keen to understand
how visitors are using the Riverside site- not just the museum.
The intern will then process the relevant data, with the final outcome being the
production of a written report. The Visitor Studies Curator will assist as necessary
but primary ownership of this project will lie with the intern.
