So that there may be no question afe to the reason for our resignation we woula like to
quote parts of our letter to the trustees of the Klssion which was written from Kampala,
Uganda, Africa on December 8, I96U.
After relating_.our efforts to get permission to work in various countries after having-
evacuated the Congo, and after having indicated that these efforts were all thwarted we
state, "One week ago Betty and I decided to return to America unless we received some letter
or indication by today that the Lord's will was contrary. We redoubled our prayer efforts
and left it to Him. Letters we received in response to our requests for information were
discouraging and local investigations only indicated more closed doors. This morning we
received word that our appeal to the Uganda government to reconsider their rejection of our
permit to work in Uganda was rejected - and finall
"By way of precaution, Betty and I want to state as plainly as we know how that we are
not resigning because of any trouble or incompatibility on the field nor because of any dis
satisfaction of any kind with the Mission. . Our decision has come over a long and prayer
ful period of time motivated only by the desire to solve the problem of our children's school
ing and climaxed by the providential closing of doors which we have inteipreted as the Lord's
leading."
Though I am no longer employed by the African Christian Mission I intend to spend the
equivalent of a day a week in voluntary material writing and translating for the new print
ing ministry which the Mission is entering# Enclosed in this letter is a brochure aypl^in-
