INTRODUCTION

Ancient Greek myths have stood the test of time for thousands of years. The legends and their protagonists have been an inspiration for artists throughout the centuries. Statues of gods like Zeus, Athena, Poseidon and heroes like Heracles (or Hercules
if you prefer the latin version) and Theseus can be found in various museums, galleries, exhibitions, squares and government
buildings all over the world.
Popularity often comes at a price. The entertainment industry (be it in the form of movies, tv shows, video games or comics)
have often dipped their hands in the honey jar of ancient Greek mythology. Alas, the purpose has not always been to represent
those stories in a fashion that would honor the heritage left behind by the ancient Greek authors. As is often the case, the original stories have been altered for the sake of profit or sometimes even for matters of political correctness.
Obviously, it isnt a crime against humanity to apply modifications to an already established myth. After all the ancient Greek
authors did it themselves plenty of times, hence the plethora of versions regarding certain events or people. However, making
changes that fall beyond the scope of the storys context and taking liberties with absolute disregard to historical accuracy is
disrespectful to a universe that belongs to the world heritage of ancient cultures.
So what is the purpose of this graphic novel? There are, after all, plenty of comics and novels about Greek mythology already.
The purpose of Mythologia is to present the stories of the ancient Greek heroes and gods in a manner that is as close to the
authentic tales as possible. We aim to pay tribute to these legends and our desire is to do that in an elegant and professional
manner.
The art style was selected with the following principles in mind: traditional, atmospheric, attention to detail and historically
correct. Both writer and artist have done a tremendous amount of research so that the final novel displays an accurate representation of what the ancient Greeks had in mind. Of course it is possible that there have been mistakes or oversights - even
some findings in our research were based on assumptions. Scientific assumptions, but assumptions nevertheless.
There is also a strong focus on storytelling. This is not your typical finish-it-in-10-minutes comic that you just browse through
images of ancient Greek hoplites stabbing each other amidst bold KAABOOOMM and BAAAAM pieces of text describing
sound effects. An eloquent text is quite vital in order to present the characters feelings and their personalities in depth.
This 11-page long prologue is meant to introduce our readers to our series. The next issues will come out every 4 - 6 months
and will be more than 30-pages long each. In the meantime we will also release the first issue of the other series published by
Centrifugal Stories, The Assassination of Franz Ferdinand. If you would like to follow the progress of our creative team you
can keep track of our releases on our website centrifugalstories.com and you can follow us on various social media.
Now it is time to end this introduction and begin our story. So lets move on to the island of Tafos...
