Coaching Session Evaluation

1. Session Plan Evaluation

Overall the feedback from the athletes was very positive.

2. Session Evaluation

– Areas that were successful/ were’t sucessful

Ladders; Kyle’s explanation and demonstration assisted the drill running smoothly. The
athlete’s clearly understood his instructions and completed the drill to the best of their ability.
However, to improve the drill better equipment would be needed to prevent delays.
Agility Sprints; Paul’s explanation and demonstration was effective to begin the drill. We
feel the drill went well with it’s competitive spirit. The poor conditions however, probably didn’t
allow the drill to reach it’s full potential.
2 & 1 Knee Throwing; Again Pete’s explanation was effective with the drill getting a good
start. He assisted athlete’s at any chance he got with their action to improve performance. As the
drill progressed it would have been more appropriate to have the groups spread out, however we
were restricted by the playing area. We feel between the four of us we could’ve gave more
assistance to the weaker throwers to correct their technique.
Distance Throwing & Catching; Aaron’s demonsration was excellent refering to checkpoints
the athlete’s should use to assist in correcting their technique. We could’ve demonstrated the art
of catching a little better as athlete’s were’t experienced with the mits. Again more assistance
was probably needed by the four of us.
Overhead Catching; Some athlete’s found this drill difficult and other’s easy. We could have
possibly split the groups by ability level and had some sort of progression.
Fielding; Drill was effective, progressed from strongest fielding side to weakest. More
encouragement or incentive was needed for athlete’s to attack the ground ball.
Plate Running; The drill is effective and a progression on all of the previous drills,
however the execution was let down. Too many throws missed their targets. This demonstates
that more time will be needed on the distance throwing and catching drills for certain athletes.
Some athletes were superb which showed how the drill can work.
Game; The game had to be modified due to field restrictions, and possibly could have
been done better. However, positive feedback from the athletes ensured us they liked the
modified game.
– Things you would include/ wouldn’t include next time

– Class management and conduct

Class management went well overall with all athletes involved in drills without long delays in
activity. Transition between drills was effective which assisted the session in running smoothly.
Conduct was outstanding except for one incident which probably caused an injury. A few girls
were gigling, we’re not too sure what about, which led to an athlete being struck in the lower leg
by the ball. This incident could have been prevented by stricter coaching or by simply seperating
partners. However, as a whole the class’ management and conduct was impressive.
