APPLICATIONS OF CARBON NANOTUBE.

Mineral Water System

US Company Seldon Technologies has developed the MineralWater System using
Nanomesh Purification Technology which is a carbon nanotube filtration system. Existences
of the carbontube have made the system delivers drinking water without usage of chemicals,
heat, or power which is better for countries where it is most needed. The Nanomesh removes
pathogens and contaminants such as viruses, bacteria, cysts and spores and produces the
delivering water that meets or exceeds the USEPA Drinking Water Standard.
Electrical
The large surface area of carbon nanotubes is also bring advantage since they are used
as the electrodes in capacitors to provide more current and better electrical and mechanical
stability than other materials. The huge surface area mean large energy is stored all along
them and not just at the ends of capacitors. The carbon nanotubes contain no lithium so there
are no risk of thermal explosions.
Material
The properties of carbon nanotubes are ideal for supporting any different kinds of
structures such as sports equipment, body armour, vehicles, rockets and building materials.
The nanotubes are being widely used to make the items. The nanotubes have created
networks within the composite material in order to bear the load of the weight, pressure and
strain inflicted upon it. Carbon nanotubes also used for their addition in polymer composites
to enhance stiffness, improve damping also allows for higher mechanical adhesion between
the fiber and the matrix, and also improves conductivity.
Medical
Since a large part of the human body consists of carbon, it is generally thought of as a
very biocompatible material. Cells have been shown to grow on carbon nanotubes, so they
appear to have no toxic effect. The nanotubes are being used for medical uses such as bone
scaffolding; cell therapy which achieved by delivering drugs or silencing genes with
modified carbon nanotubes to control the damages such as stroke, synthetic muscles,
biosensors, and also dental implants.
Ceramic
A ceramic material reinforced with carbon is far tougher than conventional ceramics,
conducts electricity and can both conduct heat and act as a thermal barrier. The new ceramic
materials have five times more toughness, resistance to cracking under stress. The material
also shows electrical conductivity seven times compare to ordinary ceramic. It also has
interesting thermal properties, conducting heat in one direction, along the alignment of the
nanotubes, but reflecting heat at right angles to the nanotubes, making it an attractive material
for thermal barrier coatings.

Marine Industry
Paints that contain multi-wall carbon nanotubes are able to prevent common marine
organisms from adhering and attached to coated surfaces so this modified paints were
designed for all major marine coating applications, such as ship hulls, oil rigs, and
underwater intake valves. This modified paint is also non-toxic. For mechanical resistance
and durability occur for sailing vessels, nanotube have improve the problem while
significantly reducing their total weight.
