INTRODUCTION
This chapter presents the background of the study, the statement of
problem, objectives of the study, scope and limitation of the study, significance of
the study and the definition of key terms.
1.1 Background of the Study
Today, online game becomes popular in all over the world. The game like
Angry Bird, Clash of Clans, and Lets Get Rich are the recently online game which
common heard and booming. Those games are played and being talked in our
society, whether in fact society e.g. student, work, and gamer society or virtual
society e.g. facebook, twitter, etc. Online game itself is the game which is
connected by internet connections, when we played it we could connected with
the peoples who played the same game in all over the world. Online gaming is a
technology rather than a genre, a mechanism for connecting players together
rather than a particular pattern of game play. (Rollings, Andrew; Adams, Ernest,
2006: 471)
A massively multiplayer online game or also called MMOG is the genre of
online game. It is free multiplayer online game which is capable supporting large
numbers of players simultaneously. (Cornet Steve, 2004: 703). MMOG usually
have at least one persistent virtual world, create a playing arena for the purpose of
a single or multiplayer game. MMOG on the other hand has a big capacity in one
server. By the big capacity of dedicated server, MMOG can enable players to
cooperate and compete with each other on a large scale, and sometimes to interact
meaningfully with people around the world.
Lost Saga is one of the MMOG which is very popular in all over the world
now. Developed by I.O. entertainment Korea in November, 2009, Lost Saga has
five publisher that are Kreon I.O Entertainment in Korea, Z8Games in North
America with 30.067 users, Garena in Thailand with 10.790 users, Gemscool in
Indonesia with 816.265 users, and Softnyx in Europe with 18.169 users.

itself is the fighting game which draws with cute heroes from each country in the
world; totally there are about 130 heroes which are presented in the game. The
interest ability and preference of heroes from each country also there was less
violence in that game makes Lost Saga suitable to be played by all ages and
gender.
The level and the item which are used by the heroes in the game are very
important in order to be the winner when the gamers fight their heroes with
another gamers hero. Because of their needs above, the small group outside the
game is usually makes by experienced gamers to share the problems between
gamers, selling the item in the game with the real money and another topic which
has relate with the game. In this case, the writer is the user of Lost Saga Europe
(LSE) and experienced for about three years for playing LSE game. The writers
also join in one of LSE facebook general group which named Lost Saga Europe
and it has about 300 members. However this group actually creates by LS Europe
user and the writer chooses this group in order to easier also focusing the data,

because the post are orderly managed by the admin also there are many gaming
word phenomenon in this group.
In a group, LSE gamers often use their gaming words. LSE gaming words
is the strange words or phrases which are usually appear in the LSE games;
those words are easy, fast and feel comfortable between the gamers but strange
and unknown for the people who never played the game. The word like AFK
that means Away From Keyboard and HQ means Head Quarters are the
examples of the gaming word which LSE gamer use. Considering the existence
of gaming words between LSE user in the group and its development in English
language, the writer thinks that the study of gaming words is very important.
LSE gaming words are strange, new, ambiguous and meaningful
vocabulary which uses between the LSE users in their daily conversation and now
it is popular; from time to time there is always a new pattern also its used not only
in the game but also in the outside of the game. The LSE gaming word which now
develops outside of the game is used by LSE user in their facebook private group
posting also commentating. However, LSE gaming word is complicated; seems it
has no regularities in forming its words. Some characteristic of LSE gaming
words are anonymous and collective, so that every user in a group may add or
enhance the vocabulary of LSE gaming word. In concerning this matter, the writer
is curious to know the ways of creating the words or phrases in word formation
processes of gaming words that are used by the user of LSE.

1.3 Objectives of the Study
Based on the formulate research question above, the objective of the study
are:
1. To know kinds of LSE gaming words used in Lost Saga Europe group
post and comment?
2. To describe, classifying and analyzing word-formation processes of the
LSE gaming word in Lost Saga Europe group post and comment?
3. To describe the frequency also find out the predominant word-formation
type processes of the LSE gaming word in Lost Saga Europe group post
and comment?
1.4 Significant of Study
The writer hopes that the result of this research will help to
realize the importance of word-formation processes in order to
get to know how words might develop so fast. There are many
new words created since language is developing. So, through any
study of word formation process, people will know that language
is fascinating with how it works. People speak and write without
books,
periodicals,
engravings,
computer
software,
etc.
