Imagine yourself leaving for a trip that you have been looking forward to. You are
all packed, on the plane, and then finally at your destination. Go explore sea,
kidnapped, stripped and body sold. Not a person, an object.
Human trafficking is a form of modern-day slavery in which victims are subjected
to force, fraud or coercion for the purpose of commercial sex, debt bondage, or
involuntary labour it is the slavery of our time.
Victims of human trafficking can be young children, teenagers, men and women.
Today I would like to inform you about how to identify victim of human
trafficking by observing the general clues, psychological and behavioural clues
and the physical aftermath of human trafficking.

(Transition: Human trafficking are incredibly simple, and inhumane as it is hidden beneath
their skin.)

Body

Victims of human trafficking tend to show general clues around their environment
even their lifestyle.
A. According to National Human Trafficking Resource Center, human trafficking
may occur in mushy/fishy environment.
1. Sexual services publicized on the Internet or in newspapers.
2. Businesses like hotels, nail salons or home-cleaning services
3. Begging, street peddling, or door-to-door sales.
B. Victims of human trafficking may exhibit any of the suspicions in living their
lifestyle.
1. Inability to leave home or place of work.
2. Owe a large debt that the individual is unable to pay off.
3. Loss of sense of time or space, not knowing where they are or what city or
state they are in.

(Transition: The true horror they have to go through is not fully acknowledged most of the
time as it affects psychologically and shows in their behaviour)

Being able to recognize the psychological and emotional consequences of human


trafficking can also be helpful in identifying victims.

A. A human trafficking victim may develop a mind-set of fear, distrust, denial,


and conflicting loyalties.
1. Foreign victims of trafficking are often fearful of being deported or jailed.
2. Traffickers may convince sex trafficking victims of being jailed.
3. Trafficker and his/her associates will harm the victims, the victims family
members, or love ones.
B. Being able to recognize the psychological and emotional consequences of
human trafficking can also be helpful in identifying victims.
1. Suffer from shock and denial, or display symptoms of post-traumatic stress
disorder, phobias, panic attacks, anxiety, and depression.
2. Become addicted to drugs and/or alcohol as a way to cope with or
escape their situation, or as a method of control used by their traffickers.
3. Experience trauma bonding with the trafficker, positively identifying
with the trafficker and believing that, despite repeated abuse, the trafficker
is a loving boyfriend, spouse, or parent.

Physical aftermath has always been the signs as an indicator as physical abuse is
involved to the victims.
A. While not all victims of trafficking have physical indicators that aid
identification, some of which may shows.

Signs of physical abuse, such as bruises, broken bones, burns, and
scarring.

Reproductive health problems, including sexually transmitted diseases,
and injuries from sexual assault, or even forced abortions.
B. Many victims suffer serious health issues as well which could condemn
victims to death.

Infectious diseases, such as tuberculosis and hepatitis, which are
spread in overcrowded, unsanitary environments with limited
ventilation.

Untreated chronic illnesses, such as diabetes or cardiovascular disease.

Making the identification difficult, the hidden nature of the crime, the lack of

victim of these cases all work against efforts to rescue and restore victims
