INTRODUCTION
Teaching is a profession and is a process of professional preparation of
teachers, Teaching is an art that can be acquired through a series of well-designed
activities, its imperative, therefore due emphasis should be laid on the education of
the teachers.
Teacher education program that it should prepare good teachers by providing
them with a sound foundation of the theoretical knowledge, understanding, skills,
attitudes and interests. It should enable the trainees to acquire knowledge, skills and
techniques for effective teaching and to inculcate in the trainees the desired ideals
and behavioural patterns of the society in which we live.
The improvement of educational provision in every country is greatly
dependent on the efficiency of teachers' education. This efficiency in turn, depends
on the knowledge and skills obtained during their education on a first level, on the
accumulation of their professional experience, its practical application and its
interaction with the educational context on a second level, and on the potential
offered to the teacher during his/her professional career to adapt to the new
developments so that they are able to be constantly updated, improved and
modernized.
The teacher education system through its initial teacher education especially,
has a major part to play in the making of a teacher. It makes the initiation of the
novice entrant to the calling and such as tremendous potential to imbue the teacher
with the aspirations, knowledge base, repertoire of pedagogic capacities and
humane attitudes (NCFTE, 2010).
Big challenges
Access to technology
All they need to do is relate, have fun with the students, be there for them, be
their friends, Identify with them.
Refer to the note on the handout about being a pal.
They are not going to be like the teachers they had in school.
2. Survival
Just make it through the day, learning is out the window, Put in your time and
get on with my life, look to the weekend and look forward to a paycheck,
busy work is in,
they revert to the practices they condemned before they started teaching,
they make excuses for why students dont learn.
Attitude is negative
3. Mastery
They have a command of the subject matter and they are going to get it over
to students.
They know how to control the classrooom and they know what to do when
something does not work-- Try something else. willing to learn
Not interested in deadend activities.
I can make a difference,
Hopeful, Positive attitude

social, cultural and political contexts. Pre-service teacher training assumes great
significance as a result of the above by providing Diploma in Elementary Education
(D.El.Ed.) Programmes to prepare elementary teachers.
After the completion of the two years D.Ed. programme the student teachers
will be able to:
Attract and retain in the school all school, age children from the school
vicinity.
Be familiar with socio economic status of families in the
neighbourhood.
Adopt innovation and interesting techniques of teaching children from
standards I to VIII.
Mobilize means and materials for academic facilitation of the children.
Develop appropriate basic personal and special skills in the pupils in
each standard.
FACTS
Hence, all countries celebrate this day on different dates, unlike many other
International Days.
India celebrates its Teachers Day on 5 th September in the honor of its first
vice-president and second president, Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan
Among the many honours he received were a knighthood (1931), the Bharat
Ratna (1954) and the Order of Merit in 1963.
When he became President, some of his students and friends requested him
to allow them to celebrate his birthday, 5th September. He replied, Instead of
celebrating my birthday, it would be my proud privilege if 5 September is
observed as Teachers' Day.
Secondly, the teacher becoming a role model. Not only does the student
learn, but the teacher shapes his life with great dreams and aims.
Finally, the education and learning process has to culminate in the creation of
professional capability leading to confidence and will power to make a design,
to make a product, to make a system, bravely combating many problems.

Conclusion
Successful learning for teachers requires continued coordinated efforts that
range from preservice education to early teaching to opportunities of lifelong
professional development.
Creating these opportunities, based on the
knowledge of learning and teaching obtained from research, is a major challenge
but not impossible.
