Nitocote RI*

Hot process high performance epoxy resin

impregnator
Uses

When used in conjunction with a Hot Compressed Air (HCA)

machine Nitocote RI will penetrate and seal cracked and
porous concrete slabs. Oil contaminated and damp slabs
may also be treated in a similar manner.

Specification

Advantages

Hot process, epoxy resin floor impregnation

n Hard wearing - durable, low maintenance costs

The floor shall be impregnated with an epoxy resin impregnator

immediately subsequent to heat treatment with an octane gas
fuelled compressed air machine whilst the substrate is still
hot. The epoxy resin shall be applied in multiple flood coats
using a squeegee for distribution. Resin application shall
continue until such time as saturation is achieved and product
is no longer drawn into the substrate.

n High resistance to a wide range of industrial chemicals

n Easy to apply
Description

Nitocote RI is a two-component solvent free, epoxy resin

hot process impregnation system supplied in pre-weighed
packs ready for on-site mixing and use.
The cured product has excellent adhesion to concrete, sand/
cement and granolithic screeds.
Technical support

Fosroc offers a comprehensive technical support service to

specifiers, end users and contractors. It is also able to offer
on-site technical assistance, an AutoCAD facility and
dedicated specification assistance in locations all over the
world.
Design criteria

Nitocote RI is designed for application in multiple flood coats

to achieve substrate impregnation and stabilisation.
Properties

Chemical properties

Nitocote RI

Good housekeeping is essential in areas where chemical

spillage is likely to occur. It is especially important that such
spillage should not be allowed to dry since very much higher
concentrations of chemicals will then result.

Nitocote RI is resistant to a wide range of chemicals. Specific

data is available on request.

Instructions for use

Preparation
Immediately prior to the application of Nitocote RI the floor is
to be heated with an HCA machine to the point where
contamination is burnt off, damp is dried out and the pores
are open.
The HCA machine is to burn octane gas only and is to be
supplied with compressed air at 100 psi from a 100 cfm
compressor or greater. In the case of heavily oil contaminated
floors the HCA machine is to make two passes, the first to
carbonise oil deposits and the second to heat and open the
concrete pores. The floor is to be cleaned of any loose deposits
between passes.
On relatively clean slabs a single pass of the HCA machine will
suffice. The HCA machine is to travel forward at such a rate
that the concrete laitance spalls but the coarse aggregate
exposed does not.
Mixing
The entire contents of the hardener container should be poured
into the base container and the two materials mixed thoroughly
for at least 2 minutes. The use of a heavy-duty slow speed,
drill fitted with a mixing paddle is desirable.
Application
Immediately after the HCA machine has moved forward the
Nitocote RI shall be applied in consecutive flood coats by
squeegee. The procedure shall continue to be applied until
such time as the substrate is saturated with resin.

Cleaning

Fire

Nitocote RI can be removed from tools and equipment with

Fosroc Solvent 102* immediately after use. Hardened material
can only be removed mechanically.

Fosroc Solvent 102* is flammable. Keep away from sources of

ignition. No smoking. In the event of fire, extinguish with CO2
or foam. Do not use a water jet.

Additional Information

Precautions

Health and safety

Nitocote RI and Fosroc Solvent 102 should not come into
contact with skin and eyes or be swallowed. Ensure adequate
ventilation and avoid inhalation of vapours. Some people are
sensitive to resins, hardeners and solvents. Wear suitable
protective clothing, gloves, and eye protection. If working in
confined areas, suitable respiratory protective equipment
must be used. The use of barrier creams provide additional
skin protection.
In case of contact with skin, rinse with plenty of clean water,
then cleanse with soap and water. Do not use solvent. In
case of contact with eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of
clean water and seek medical advice. If swallowed, seek medical
attention immediately - do not induce vomiting.
