North American Realm: North American core, Pacific Hinge, Maritime
Northeast
North American core: US and Canada contain the largest cities and federal
capitals. Leading in financial markets, contain largest number of corporate
headquarters, dominant media centers, prestigious universities, busiest
airport, etc.
Pacific Hinge: Extend from California up to Vancouver. California economy
ranked among the worlds ten largest. This part of North America is deeply
involved in the development of countries in eastern Asia
Maritime Northeast: extends from the northern border of Massachusetts to
Newfoundland, thus incorporating all four Canadian Atlantic Provinces.
Primary industries include fishing, logging and farming. Recreational and
Lakes, the low-relief landscapes of the Interior Lowlands and the Great Plains
to the west are shared by Canada and the United States, and the international
boundary even divides the Great Lakes.
9. List the six major migrations that shaped North American population
distribution and its multicultural character.
10. List and briefly describe the geographic obstacles to a two-state
solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
The West Bank: Jewish immigration and settlement made any possibility
of a future Palestinian State problematic.
The Golan heights: strategic territory claimed by syria, but occupied by
Israel. Area that includes Isreals main water reservoir and Jewish
settlements.
Jerusalem: Israel claimed the wet part as its capital, making it a forward
capital located squarely in contested territory.
The Security Fence : massive waller around the West Bank built as a
response to terrorism. It annexed additional lands and interrupts
Palestian livelihoods.
The Gaza Strip: Israeli withdrawal and power struggle between
palestinian factions. Palestinian attacks incited Israeli retaliation and
blockade.
