interface unit being on site. Prevents site
theft and site damage. No need to purchase
unit until it is required, easing cash flow.
Jig bracket is supplied as standard with
all relevant isolating valves
No hidden additional costs.

Twin heat exchanger model gives both

indirect CH and DHW
Should the property develop a leak in the
system, only the water inside the property
would be expelled, lessening likely damage.
Also instantaneous hot water availability, no
storage or cylinder required.
Single plate heat exchanger models ideal for
direct DHW, where a cylinder or hot water
storage is preferred, or where a cylinder is
already in place, e.g. the replacement market.

Stops any debris in the system entering the
unit, preventing damage, blockages or any
reduction of the efficiency of the plate heat
exchangers.

Optional energy meter

Allows each tenant to be billed for the energy
he or she consumes.

Jig bracket supplied as standard with Part

L compliant WRAS approved filling loop.
No hidden additional costs.

Optional water meter

Water meter can be housed securely inside
the HIU when fitted outside the apartment.

Jig bracket available with a 50mm offset

Additional Benefits of the G4 ECO

Helping to minimise the heat source
requirement and further reduce energy
consumption

exchanger. This combination of valves

The G4 Eco has, as standard, a motorized valve

fitted that can shut off the heat exchanger for
heating when not in use to save energy and cut
fuel bills. It also has an option to fit a further
motorized valve on the domestic hot water heat

and a smaller heat source requirement when

G4 Eco Twin

minimizes the energy extracted from the

primary flow, allowing a greater diversity factor
sizing the boiler. This can result in significant
energy savings, lower emissions and is ideal for
use with renewable technologies, where the
energy produced is limited.

With no need for a gas supply, flues, or hot water cylinders,

the new heat interface unit from Giacomini provides all the
benefits of a combi boiler without the combustion.
Compact in size and simple to install, this versatile unit
controls and measures hot water and heating usage in
apartments supplied from a communal boiler system. It
delivers major benefits to everyone concerned, from the
building contractor and installer to the tenants and
landlords.
For the building contractor and the installer, the advantages
are simplicity of installation; theres no need for a gas supply,
flue or hot water cylinder and little or no servicing
requirement once installed. With no need for hot water
storage, Giacominis neat and compact heat interface unit
its just 450mm wide by 670mm high and 200mm in depth
also saves on valuable space, compared to a conventional
individual heating system.

tenants in flats, apartments or multi-dwelling buildings,
according to their individual needs.

efficiencies for individual users lowers both costs

and emissions

Advantages for the landlord

Through

remote monitoring, Giacomini heat interface units

provide the landlord with comprehensive data for analysis
with a consequent major energy saving opportunity

Monitoring energy consumption

One of the key advantages for the tenant is the direct linking
of their energy bill to personal consumption. For the landlord,
the key advantage is the ability to remotely monitor and
analyse the energy consumption of both individual users and
the overall system through a special interface fitted within the
unit. This uses the latest M-BUS communications technology,
standardised throughout Europe.

Possibility

of central conversion to other kinds of fuel,

without major cost implications for satellite units

Adaptable

for remote heating control

More

secure and less intrusive, through centralised

data collection

Maintenance

costs shared across all residents

The principal difference between the heat interface unit and a

conventional individual boiler is that the usual heating source
is replaced with a heat exchanger fed from a central
communal hot water supply. A primary plate heat exchanger is
used for the provision of heating and a secondary plate heat
exchanger for domestic hot water production. These are
configured as a sealed system in the heat interface unit,
together with an expansion tank, safety valve and filling loop.
The result gives each Giacomini unit the effectiveness and
flexibility of a combi boiler, without the need for individual
combustion.
Accurate measurement of energy usage is obtained via
compact volumetric meters, which are of a single jet turbine
type that provide high precision and reliability in compliance
with standard EN 1434. Well engineered, all components are
installed in a durable zinc-plated casing, supplied with fittings
for easy wall mounting.

Data centralisation

Optional accessories

The direct reading of measured data is possible on each

metering device, using an analogue or digital display. However,
this may not conform to tenants privacy agreements, where
metering units are installed in common areas or outside
apartments.
Additionally, direct reading of individual meters is time
consuming, subject to human error and requires installation
of metering units in positions easy to access. For these
reasons, Giacomini metering modules and heat interface units
are provided with metering devices fitted with a special
interface for M-BUS communication, the European standard
for remote reading of energy meters. All data is detected
electronically so that it can be sent via the communication
M-BUS.
A concentrator periodically interrogates all M-BUS devices,
collecting consumption data and making it available locally
or remotely, for sharing and analysis. Data reading becomes
fast, convenient and possible at all times, even when tenants
are out.

Energy meter (M-BUS)

For the monitoring of energy consumption sending data to a
central collection point via M-BUS.

Sanitary water meter (M-BUS)

For the monitoring of water consumption via M-BUS to central
collection point.
Other meter options, such as wireless / pre-pay meters, are
available on request.

combi boiler without
the combustion

Jig brackets
The Giacomini heat interface unit comes complete with a jig
bracket and WRAS approved filling loop as standard. This
allows the installer to complete all system pipework without
the unit in place, piping from below or from above the unit to
suit site requirements. When piping from above, an offset jig
bracket (optional) is used which allows the pipework to run
behind the unit.
Completing all system pipework without the heat interface
unit in position helps reduces the risk of site theft and
damage and also allows the contractor to purchase the unit
when it is required and not before, easing cash flow.
The 2-year warranty only commences from the date when the
unit is delivered to the contractor.

Standard jig bracket

'Y' Strainers
The jig bracket comes complete with 'Y' strainers
as standard, which ensure all waterways are kept
clear for lasting reliability and maximum efficiency.

Actuator
An optional extra actuator head is available on the G4 Eco
model. This allows the DHW heat exchanger to be bypassed
when not in use, resulting in a greater diversity factor and
improved efficiency.

Piping can be run behind the unit utilising the optional

offset jig bracket.

TP9000
A TP9000 programmable
thermostat with DHW time
control is available for the
G4 Eco model. This
programmer allows total
control of the heating system
and hot water production.

Sanitary: cold inlet (Pages 9/10: Fig.5-C), cold outlet (Fig.5-D),

hot outlet (Fig.5-E). In place of the spacer (Fig.5-9), a sanitary
water meter can be installed.

Heating: inlet (Fig.5-F) and outlet (Fig.5-G). The circuit is

simply composed of exchanger and circulator. As it deals with
a closed circuit, the equipment is completed by: expansion
vessel, safety valve, manometer.
Primary: flow (Fig.5-B) and return (Fig.5-A). The energy meter
can be installed in place of the spacer (Fig.5-8, installing the
inlet temperature probe in the appropriate housing (Fig.5-10).
For G3-G4 single, the primary circuit operates only for the
heating circuit; the primary circuit is composed of a balancing
valve and a differential pressure controller that work together
to perform automatic balancing (see Figure 3 below); the heat
exchanger and the thermostatic valve with remote bulb
regulate the power for the heating circuit. The zone valve can
manage the heating by means of a chrono-thermostat.

Static balancing valve

NOTE: Setting scale in WHITE

For G3-G4 twin, the primary circuit is divided in two

symmetrical arms: one is for the heating handling, the other is
for the production of hot sanitary water. These two arms are
completed by: heat exchanger, thermostatic valve with remote
bulb, the balancing valve, and differential pressure controller.
The balancing valve and a differential pressure controller
valve work together to perform the automatic balancing (see
Figure 3). The zone valve can manage the holiday function
(motor of the zone valve is optional).

Warning!
Danger of burns. The thermostatic head for
the regulation of the sanitary hot water
temperature serves to set the temperature
rating value.

Controls and maintenance

Heating circuit pressure
Periodically adjust the pressure of the heating circuit by
means of the manometer (Page 9 Fig.5-19, Page 10 Fig.5-21).
The pressure value must be maintained over 1 bar (pressure
values under 1 bar can damage the circulator by cavitation).
A device for filling is supplied (the satellite has no internal
filling loop). During the filling, the safety valve may activate
(Page 9 Fig.5-20, Page 10 Fig.5-22).
Warning: danger of burns.
In order to eliminate the air in the heating circuit, use the
manual air vent (Fig.5-2 and Fig.5-11).

To avoid burns, provide for a thermostatic mixer

downstream of the satellite.
If you note that the rating temperature of the sanitary hot
water is higher than the set value, the flow of the primary
may be too high and the thermostatic head is not able to
close. In this case, open the differential pressure controller
valve (Fig.5-4). About the regulation, see Page 8, Figure 4.
To balance the sanitary hot water production functions,
you may work with the primary balancing valve (Fig.5-5).

Heating
Safety valve
Periodically work the manual hand wheel of the safety valve
(Page 9 Fig.5-20, Page 10 Fig.5-22) for a good service of the
valve. Be careful to check for leakage of the water from the
discharge.
Warning: danger of burns.

Adjustments
Adjust the temperature of the sanitary hot water using the
thermostatic head (Fig.5-12):

Warning!
The set value represents the rating value; the
thermostatic head is not as precise as a
thermostatic mixer and in transitory phases (unexpected
openings) does not guarantee the precise set value, you
may have even +/-15C as regards to the set value, for a
short period of time.

T: 01454 311012

Provide for a safety thermostat for the low

temperature heating applications.
If you note that the rating temperature of the heating is
higher than the set value, the flow of the primary may be
too high and the thermostatic head is not able to close. In
this case, open the differential pressure controller valve
(Fig.5-4). About the regulation, see Page 8, Figure 4.
To balance the heating production functions, you may work
with the static balancing valve (Page 9 Fig.5-5, Page 10
Fig.5-3) and the primary balancing valve (Fig.5-5) but the
latter also affects the hot water production.
Finally it is possible to change the heating power by
modifying the circulator speed that has 3 speeds (Page 9
Fig.5-17, Page 10 Fig.5-19).

Fax: 01454 316345

Electrical connections

Functioning consent

On top right of the satellite there is an electrical box IP55 (see

Fig.5-13) containing the terminals (see Figure 7 below) for the
electrical connections for the M-BUS (optional) devices and for
the control and supply of the circulator (Page 9 Fig.5-17, Page
10 Fig.5-19).

Concerning the connection of the functioning consents, the

consent should be given through the normally open contact
(N.O. contact, see Figure 7). For the connection of the
functioning consent (terminals 6, 7 and 9, 10) use a twoconductor cable with 0.5mm2 section. No polarity should be
complied with for the connections.

M-BUS
For the connection of the M-BUS data transmission cable to
the concentrator use terminals 1 (RED conductor L1+) and to
terminal 2 (GREEN conductor L2-) of the terminal box, see
Figure 7.

External connections
External power supply (230V~) should be connected to the
terminal box to terminals 7 and 8, 10 and 11 in Figure 7. Use a
two-conductor cable with 0.5mm2 section. No polarity need be
complied with for the connection of the terminals.
