From the Pastor

I thank Dr. Adam and Faith Paoni for organizing the beautiful and meaningful celebration of the
anniversary of my ordination to the priesthood. I thank all those who helped to make it successful.
And of course I thank all those who came. I am deeply touched by those who made the extra effort
to divide their time from the wedding in Ft. Scott and coming to the mass and dinner that follows,
all in appreciation of the gift of the priesthood. For that, may the Almighty God bless them a
hundredfold. I thank God for the support of the Filipinos from greater Wichita area and a few from
Southeast Kansas! I thank Doug Amend, the pastor of the First Christian Church in Girard, for
showing up and even dancing the pole dance. I have posted a picture of him dancing at our
Facebook page. In case you are curious, we did not make much off the free will donation and raffles.
The gross proceeds is $1,347.45 ($895 from the free will and $452.45 from the raffle). And the
tentative net proceeds (minus expenses) is around $425.00 The exact amount cannot be determined
as of this writing as some of the bills are not yet submitted. You may call Faith Paoni if you have
questions. The Asian food including the three roasted hogs were all donated by my Filipino friends
so they are not counted as part of the expenses! No matter, how much money we raised is not
important! Our main goal was to celebrate and it was successful! Thanks be to God!
Congratulations to Dave Petrey from Saint Joseph parish for winning the statue of Our Lady of
Grace! Thank you Dave for your wholehearted support and God bless you always!
May is here! In case you forget, May is another month dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary. In
1965, Pope Paul VI wrote about this church tradition: The month of May isa month which the piety of
the faithful has long dedicated to Mary, the Mother of God. Our heart rejoices at the thought of the moving tribute of
faith and love which will soon be paid to the Queen of Heaven in every corner of the earth. For this is the month
during which Christians, in their churches and their homes, offer the Virgin Mother more fervent and loving acts of
homage and veneration; and it is the month in which a greater abundance of God's merciful gifts comes down to us
from our Mother's throne. Kindly read the insert in this bulletin the letter of Bishop Kemme urging us
to pray in this special occasion for a special intention. As we have done in the past to honor our
Blessed Mother we have the crowning of the statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary at the 8AM mass in
Arma with our PSR kids and at the 10AM mass in Girard with our 8th graders. We have also set
aside this Sunday at Saint Michael as our 8th Grade Recognition! Kindly read in the insert the
names of our 8th graders and pray for them as they move on to High School. Congratulations to our
8th graders!
Last Wednesday was the last day of our PSR classes in Girard. This Sunday, May 3rd is the last
day in Arma. Thank you again to all our catechists for their wholehearted dedication in teaching
our kids about our faith, how to pray, and about moral values. Kindly read one side of the insert of
the names of our catechists whose efforts and sacrifices we are very grateful for. It also includes the
names of the kids who have perfect attendance. Congratulations to them and to their parents.
For Armas Sunday PSR, we thank our catechists: Lindsay Waterman, Lucinda Bonine, Ariel and Aubri
Ashbacher for their time, efforts and sacrifices. Thank you also for all our kids: Drew Kotzman, Drake
Kotzman, Cody Burns, Owen Waterman, Gianna Waterman, Eve Bertoncino, Elana Bonine, Tallon Bonine, Peyton
Kocur, Jacob Kocur, and Aidan Ashbacher.
Thank you again and God bless you all! Fr. Roger

NO ONE DIES FOR A LIE

Throughout the centuries, the story of the Resurrection has been

told and the world has many believers. Christians form the bulk of
those who have placed their faith and trust in Jesus words and
actions. Yet, doubts have arisen in the minds of scholars and
ordinary people alike as to its authenticity. If youre being honest
with yourself, Im sure that youve had your own doubts about the
resurrectionwanting it to be true, but still skeptical. Youre not
alone, even Mother Teresa admitted to having low points in her life
when doubt entered in. Id have to plead guilty also as to moments
when I thought, I hope its true, and simply casting aside
testimonials from those who have studied the evidence of its validity.
Well, no more, and I have Fr. Roger to thank for that. At last
Tuesdays weekday mass, during his homily, Father used that short
sentence: No one dies for a lie. I used to wonder why God allowed
the apostles and all the early Christians to go through such suffering,
such tremendous, unbelievable tortures. Fr. Roger said that people
will die for what they believe to be true, but they do not give up their
lives willingly for what they know is not true. We also see the
tremendous transformation of the apostles from fearful, timid,
cowards to bold men who proclaimed the Gospel wherever they
went. Peter, for example, went from denying Christ prior to the
Crucifixion, to one, a few days later, who confronted the whole
Sanhedrin, affirming to them that he could not deny, but must
declare to all, what he had seen and heard. And what about the
faithful, those who witnessed Jesus sufferings, many of whom shed
their blood to prove what they had seen!
Fr. Roger reminded us that all of the apostles, except John, gave
their lives in witness to Christs resurrection. When you have those
feelings of doubt, ask yourself, would you be willing to die for
something that you know is not true? We may not have that
opportunity to die for His cause in our time, but we can certainly
live for Him by believing in His Resurrection, repenting of our sins
through confession, and trusting in Him who died for us. Without the
Resurrection, we are without hope in this world. Without hope, we
have nothing to look forward to but a black hole in the ground.
