Ebola Virus

What is Ebola about? Today people do not know the effects of living with the most deadly
killer of the world. Even though this predator is impossible to see, it exists as a microscope
virus that can easily cause peoples death. Although, Ebola is a virus found in Africa its
origin is still unknown but it has been multiple outbreaks across Africa and recently United
States. Fortunately, Chile does not present victims; however, people should be aware of the
Ebola effects and how to prevent them.
The incubation period, that is, the time interval from infection with the virus to onset of
symptoms is 2 to 21 days. The Ebola basically causes uncontrollable bleeding, not only
externally but also internally. For instance, some of the first symptoms the victim will
experience are the onset of weakness, fever, headache, rush, vomiting and diarrhea. Then,
as the infection progresses, after about 14 days bleeding could become uncontrollable.
How the first victim was infected is still unknown as well as a mystery. However, Ebola has
been spread to other humans through direct contact (human to human transmission) such as
blood, secretions and excretions and other fluids of infected people. It is also spread due to
contact with patients skin which carries out the virus, for example, through broken skin or
mucous membranes contaminated with the virus. Even Health-care workers have frequently
been infected while treating patients with suspected or confirmed Ebola virus Disease.
Besides, no treatment exists to cure Ebola. Roughly ninety percent of Ebolas victims die.
However, a range of potential treatments including blood products, immune therapies and
drug therapies are currently being evaluated. No licensed vaccines are available yet, but
two potential vaccines are undergoing human safety testing. Meanwhile the patient needs to
be isolated as soon as possible and hope to be one of the fortunate ten percent who survives
to this terrible predator.
To sum up, the Ebola virus is extremely dangerous; which can even lead people to death.
Even though the virus is not still in Chile, people must know its symptoms and effects in
order to identify victims suffering the virus, so that they can receive intensive supportive
care immediately to avoid the further spread of Ebola to other human beings. It is highly
important to believe it is our job as citizens being inform in order to protect our children
and all those around the world as well as ourselves, so we should start educating from now
on.
