What are the aims and objectives of this test (Not more than 50 words)?

To determine the coefficient of C for different rates of flow. Also determine K

to find C by assuming the equation Q=K*(H1-H2)^2.

Explain the procedure of the experiment (Not more than 60 words)?

Open the delivery valve in full of centrifugal pump to avoid the build up of
pressure.Start the pump allowing the water to flow through the
system.Discharge is adjusted by operating the valve.Collect the water in the
measuring tank i.e volume of water collected in the tank for T
seconds.Measure time T using the stopwatch.Note the rise in water level in
the container.Due to the pressure difference between the pipe and the throat
mercury in the monometer column will deflect.Drain the water collected in
the measuring tank after each observation.Vary the discharge by changing
the position of delivery valve.

Q (m3/S)

Write your comment about variation of C with Q (not more than 30 words)

Value of discharge of coefficient C is found to be 0.995 The value is close and lies between the
expected value of 0.9 and 0.1 The graph is parabolic.Value of C increases slightly with the flow but
remains within the limits.

Write your comment about theoritical and actual curve (not more than 50 words)

Both actual and theoretical curves meet at a point showing that the flow reaches the throat.Dur
coarse of flow through the converging part, the velocity increases and the pressure decrease. But t
dimensionless pressure is less than the theoretical suggesting that there is a loss of energy at the
venturri. The pressure decreases as the flow reaches the throat. Therefore Coefficient C is found for
of friction effects.

The actual pressure drops initially as it
approaches the throat through the
converging part and the velocity increase
according to principle of continuity.Flow
rate is inversely proportional to pressure
and this principle is used in the
venturimeter.
