APROCLAMATION
AGovernmentof,by,andforthepeopleissustainedonlythroughthehardwork
andextraordinarysacrificeofmillionsofcitizenswillingtoservethecountrythey
love.Fromthemomentanearlybandofpatriotsfirstcametogethertosecurethe
blessingsoflibertyforall,publicservantshaveworkedtocreateamoreperfect
Union.TodayineverycityandeverytownAmericansproudlycarryforward
thistraditionofservice,whichhasbuiltourNationandstrengtheneditspromise.
Thisweek,werecognizeallthosewhodedicatetheirlivestothisnoblepursuit,
andwecelebratethetremendousdifferencetheymakeeveryday.
Inthefaceofdifficultchallenges,publicservantsgivenewlifetothevaluesthat
bindourNationtogether.Civilservantsarescientistsandteachers,socialworkers
andfirstresponderstheyaretheleadersoftoday'sprogressandtheinnovators
oftomorrow'sbreakthroughs.Withdeterminationandresolve,theydefendour
countryoverseasandworktowidenthecircleofopportunityandprosperityhere
athome.Anddespitetoughcircumstancesincludingpayfreezes,budgetcuts,
sequestration,andapoliticalclimatethattoooftendoesnotsufficientlyvaluetheir
worktheseexceptionalleaderscontinuetomakerealthefundamentaltruththat
peoplewholovetheircountrycanchangeit.
Withmorethan2millioncivilianworkersandmorethan1millionactiveduty
servicemembers,ourFederalworkforcerepresentsextraordinarypossibility.Our
Governmentcanandmustbeaforceforgood,andtogether,wecanmakesureour
democracyworksforallAmericans.Weknowtherearesomethingswedobetter
whenwejoinincommonpurpose,andwithhardworkandacommitmentworthy

ofourNation'spotential,wecankeepourcountrysafe,guaranteebasicsecurity,
andensureeveryonehasashotatsuccess.
AsPresident,Iamdedicatedtoengagingourworkforceandinvestinginthe
peoplewhostriveeverydaytohelpourNationliveuptoitslimitlesspromise.My
Administrationisadvancingeffortstotrainanddevelopthenextgenerationof
civilservantsandequipthemwiththeskillstoleadchange,buildcoalitions,and
collaborateacrossGovernmenttosolvebigproblems.Wearealsofindingnew
waystoimprovehowwerecruit,empower,andretainthemostdiverseandvery
besttalent,ensuringcareersinpublicservicewillcontinuetoattractthebrightest
ofthecominggenerations.Iamcommittedtoliftinguptheoutstandingworkthat
isdoneeverydayandtofosteringanenvironmentwhereallouremployeesfeel
valued,engaged,andincluded.
Publicserviceisacallingwhichhasmeantsomuchtosomany.Itembodiesour
senseofsharedvaluesandreflectsourdrivetoserveacausebeyondourownto
givebacktoourNation,leaveourmark,andnudgehistoryforward.Thereisno
greateropportunitytohelpmorepeopleortomakeabiggerdifference.During
PublicServiceRecognitionWeek,wehonorthewomenandmenwhopowerour
local,State,andFederalgovernments,andwerecommittotacklingthetoughest
challengeswiththemosttalentedworkforce.
NOW,THEREFORE,I,BARACKOBAMA,PresidentoftheUnitedStatesof
America,byvirtueoftheauthorityvestedinmebytheConstitutionandthelaws
oftheUnitedStates,doherebyproclaimMay3throughMay9,2015,asPublic
ServiceRecognitionWeek.IcalluponallAmericanstorecognizethehardwork
anddedicationofourNation'spublicservantsandtoobservethisweekby
expressingtheirgratitudeandappreciationthroughappropriateactivities,events,
andprograms.
INWITNESSWHEREOF,IhavehereuntosetmyhandthisfirstdayofMay,in
theyearofourLordtwothousandfifteen,andoftheIndependenceoftheUnited
StatesofAmericathetwohundredandthirtyninth.
