Cygnet Sea Dragons Soccer Club Inc
1. Welcome

Cygneture
Cygneture Chocolates (support our sponsor)

Hi Sea Dragoners
It was great to finally see the kids out there playing under sunshine. Last weekend was also
the first game for the clubs first ever all girls Youth team (U13). This competition plays their
games on a Sunday morning so there will be soccer action on both days of the weekend this
year. Well done to Gini Ennals and co for getting this team together. And also well done to
the team who drew 3-3 in their first game last weekend against a strong Taroona outfit.
This week Played 9 Won 4 Lost 3 Draw 2 For 39 Against 29
This season Played 11 Won 5 Lost 4 Draw 2 For 44 Against 35

Did you know we have a 2nd playing strip now. As of

this season, we have merged our oldest team (U16
boys) to a strip which retains the Emerald Green top
but now includes black shorts and socks. See the
strip to the right.
U6 TEAM SPLIT
Due to some late registrations, we are now able to
split the U6 squad into two teams. U6 Red and U6
Green. Michael Compton is happy to coach them
together on Fridays but will be with the U6 Green on
match days so parents of the U6 Red team will have
to help out during matches.
The teams are as follows:
U6 Green

U6 Red

Margot McLeod
Neve Gill
Henry Compton
Timothy Stapleton
Miles Leighton

Jack Willemse
Mitchell Clowes
Toby Woods
Jango Beecroft
Yoshi (to be registered this week)

Wet Weather: Reminder that if the weather looks dodgy, check emails or the facebook page
for cancellation. I aim to make a decision by 1pm. For match day the Regional Association
can cancel games as late as 8am Saturday morning so you should check email or the
facebook page before heading to a game. You can also always check out the website
yourself at http://www.crjsa.com
Match days If your match is the first scheduled for that pitch on match day, please arrive
early and help set the field up with other parents (nets, corner flags). It is not the coaches
responsibility to rush to set the field up and get the kids warmed up, so please help set the
field up and allow the coach to get the kids ready for the game. Only takes 10 mins to set up

First Aid Kit: If there are any minor injuries, there is a new first-aid kit in the Canteen room
hanging up on the wall. Please visit canteen if it is required. There are also some instant ice
packs in there. If something is used please let me know so I can buy replacements. Our rule is
that the parent will deliver first aid to their child.
Canteen: Well done to the volunteers for helping with Canteen and to Kirsty Morgan and
Emma Gill for coordinating. Things seem to go very smoothly on our first match day. As you
know we are changing how volunteering is handled this season so please check out the info

Lost and never Found

At Friday training, I will be leaving out a box of lost clothes near the equipment room door.
Please have a look through in case one of your childs clothing is in there. Whatever is still left
after training will be going to the School lost and found.

Good luck to all teams for the coming game. Hopefully the weather improves.

THE FOOTBALL RAMBLER for the hardcore enthusiasts

Jason aint no Priest

Last Saturday our U16 Youth team ventured back to New Norfolk for the 2nd time
at New Norfolk in 3 weeks. Now this trip is the longest we have to make during the season and
one would say we were smacked with the unlucky stick by those in charge of the rosters;
however we made the 75 minute drive home the first time glowing after a magnificent 4-0
victory (a brace each to I Beecroft and CJ Sayers).
We therefore approached our return visit with great enthusiasm until Friday evening when it
became apparent we were going to be fielding a much weakened defence when three of
our experienced defending heads falling down to a sickness (Kindalin and Hugh) or a bruised
shin (Brady).
Coach George thought this would strengthen our resolve to win against all the odds in the
true spirit that is the Sea Dragon but I was dubious. George may have been clouded by his 5
coffees between 7am and 9am pre match as he was forced to flee before the Targa
enemies laid siege to his castle at 7:28am allowing him no room to leave after then.
After 25 minutes, George was beginning to see just how hard it is when Hugh, Brady and
Kindalin are missing as we let 3 goals in in quick succession. From this point on we battled
hard and got the score back to 3-4 by half time but with only one sub and some dodgy
refereeing we were always going to tire at the back end of the match.
Now I know George will disagree with me, but the turning point in the game came when we
were producing some good chances on goal and went within a whisker of drawing level with
minutes to go only to see New Norfolk go the length of the field and pull a Ronaldo. Nder a
high ball, the opponent jumped into the air and fell backwards into Jake Buckland only to
see the local New Norfolk referee named Jason Priest call penalty and tell Jake he had
pulled down his opponent in the box (a great feat for 50 kg Jake vs 80 kg opponent).
This effectively ended our chance to draw level and we finished losing 5-7. Now back to
Jason. The previous match we had seen a few tardy calls, but my ears pricked up when in
the last minute of that game, striker Christian Sayers busted through the defence at the half
way line after a through ball by Isaac Beecroft and was one on one with the keeper. With 5
metres left before unleashing the pile driver and securing his hat-trick, Jason Aint No Priest
called time to the devastation of the away supporters. I approached this game with some
scepticism over his bias and as I was running the line and 5m away from the late penalty on
Jake, I was even more so. Had you asked me one hour after the match did we fairly lose, I
would have taken you to the side and given you a quite lengthy recount of Mr
Priest and his home ground favouritism, but in hindsight the better team simply won
on the day. I will admit that emotion got hold of me on that 75 minute drive back
to Sunny Cygnet and I seethed over some calls, and will agree that New Norfolk
were simply the better team on the day, but I still maintain that local referee Jason
Aint No Priest.
Cygnet U16 5 lost to New Norfolk 7 (I Beecroft 2, CJ Sayers 1, J Buckland 1, V

Message for All Parents (and Kids):

If your child is unable to play for any reason please contact your team coach or reply to Dave Sayers
who will pass message on as if we know in time we may be able to get a player from one of the other
teams to double up and therefore we avoid playing short or having to borrow from the other team.
Telephone numbers/email of team coaches above fixtures, results and scorers item 9.

Canteen roster (Coordinator Emma Gill/ Kirsty Morgan):

A new system is to be implemented and details will follow from our Canteen Coordinators
In 2015 we are introducing a new system for the allocation of canteen duty. In the past it has been
difficult to provide enough volunteers to cover duty each week, so the new system is aimed at
spreading the load across all teams more often, which in turn is less of a burden for all involved.
Each week, two home-game teams will be rostered on together to help out in the canteen,
providing 2 volunteers each. It will be the rostered teams responsibility to run it on their own,
however as we adjust to this change, help will be available from Kirsty & Emma plus other
experienced volunteers. Your cooperation in helping us run the canteen is always appreciated. This
will share the load & allow everyone a chance to watch their own children play. Also, canteen duty is
fun!! You get to catch up with friends, watch some games and help out the club!
CSD is a non-profit organisation and the canteen helps our club keep costs as low as possible and
assists with the purchase of uniforms, balls, equipment and end of season presentation trophies for
our players.
Each team will need to nominate a team contact (not the coach!) and they will be advised when
their team is rostered for canteen duty. It is their responsibility to organise parents for the
roster.
Emma can be contacted at emma@andrewgillcontracting.com.au or 0410 508 522
Kirsty can be contacted at ckjwmorgan@gmail.com or 0410 698 400

Match Reports
U8 Green
Unfortunately the opposition was unable to field a full team at the start of the game, BUT, in a great
show of sportsmanship Henry Compton from the U6's jumped in and acted as goalkeeper until another
of their team arrived. Well done mate!
It's not often the pre-match talk from the coach contains the words, "Take it easy on them and don't
score too many goals", but you all should be commended for your approach towards a team who
were overwhelmed and short on players. A HUGE commendation to Archie GIll, who not only scored 3
goals for his own team, but who part way through the first half volunteered to go and play with the
opposition, and then went and scored 3 more goals against his own team! True Sea Dragons spirit
Archie.
Congratulations to Charlie G on his 'string' of goals, well done Luka for planting one in the back of the
net in your first game with a new team, and Isaac for bagging a double as well.
We've welcomed a few new faces this year, Malachy, Flynn, Patrick and Charlie F, who have slotted
into the team nicely and put in a great effort for their first game. You should be proud of yourselves
guys.
I'd also like to welcome the 'new Abby', who was on fire from the first whistle and charged the whole
game. Patrick, Isaac and Will showed some fancy footwork, while Wes continued to 'crunch tackle'
whoever came near him.
Hopefully next week we'll get some stiffer competition and we can see what this team can really do.
Well done.

Under 9 Green 3 vs Mt Stuart 0
Both teams started pretty slowly for the first game of the season. Rory displayed fantastic ball control
up the sideline followed by great infield pass to a team mate. Elliott was rewarded with two first half
goals from really positive attacking play. Charlie displayed great ball control through the midfield
defence finishing with a great pass to a team mate. Harry chased the ball with a positive attitude
before changing to goalie in the second half.
Lachlan showed determination in controlling the ball in his first game. Flloyd managed to score a great
goal and was constantly involved in the play. Benny secured the goal in the first half and stayed
focused by helping the goalie in defence in the second half. Hugo made several passes to team
mates and had a couple of big kicks. Billy stayed positive helped his team mates. Lorenzo repelled the
best opposition attack late in the second half right on the goal line.
The game was played in a great positive attitude. Both teams were very determined and there were
several instances of players falling to the ground. Each time the opposition took the time to ensure the
player was ok.
U10 Green
It was with a small amount of trepidation that I took to the first game of the season with a new team
who had an impressive record.
The whole team were a little concerned that West Hobart have been the only team to beat them last
season and my concern was that it could happen again if I had tried to change a winning
combination. So all I have done so far is give encouragement and a few tips here and there.

Edition 3 9 May 2015

I was pleasantly surprised when we were 1-0 up in the first two minutes and the looks on the faces of
the whole team was something to behold. Well the elation was short lived as West Hobart sent wave
after wave of counter attack at our goal and with some skillful passing they left poor Toby stranded a
couple of times and we went into half time 1-3 down.
Again I only encouraged the team and let them sort things out under the guidance of Luca who
drummed up team spirit. The second half started in a bit of a flurry with both sides trying to dominate
play until Tristan had a long shot at the goal and scored.
The play went from end to end and Otis stepped up to make it 3-3 with his second goal of the match.
The relief showed but we relaxed a bit much and West Hobart scored again from some very good play
and a scramble around the goal area. Time was running out and with most of WH down around our
goal a long clearance saw Kate and Holly aided by Sasha play their way through the defence and
pass a ball to Lauren in the middle who after controlling the ball slipped past the defence and placed
the ball past the keeper into the net to equalise.
There was a lot of skill on both sides and a draw was a fair (maybe not good) result.
Griffin, Zac,Josh and Toby all had their share of the ball and passed and held the ball when required
setting up some very professional moves and I look forward to the rest of the season to see just how
good they can be.

And we are lucky to have a 2nd match report for U10 Green due to some miscommunication over who
was writing
Under 10s

Cygnet Sea Dragons 4

West Hobart 4

The Scribe was really looking forward to this match for a few reasons.
The core of this under 10 squad has played together since they were 6 year olds. In that time they have
become the most successful team that the Sea Dragons has produced on from a win: loss viewpoint.
For the past two years there have been sufficient Under 8 and Under 9 players to register two teams in
these age groups and now in 2015 with a larger pitch and 9 a side competition the two squads have
come together.
The other reason were our opponents West Hobart - with whom we have developed a keen rivalry
and last year we shared the spoils 2 wins a piece ( though the Sea Dragons shaded them on goal
difference).
This match had everything that soccer is renown for. The game was like a tide first one team was in
the ascendancy then the other would assert its dominance.
This was the first time that the two squads had played together and the first time playing on the larger
pitch yet some of the positional play and passing was of a standard that you would be fortunate to
see in some Under 13 squads.
It was an epic battle, gripping, exhilarating yet at times agonizing to watch.
The Sea Dragons went 1 up in the opening minutes courtesy of a slick back pass from just outside the
box from either Kate or Holly to Otis, who calmed his pre match nerves for a beautiful first touch drive
past the keeper. ( Which was no mean feat given the skill this keeper displayed in this match)
West Hobart hit back with three goals to head into the orange break with a substantial buffer. Did our
kids drop their bundle? Not bloody likely as they responded with two goals in the opening 5 minutes
to draw level. The match then became an arm wrestle until the opposition went 4-3 up. Over the
course of this second half the Sea Dragns hit the wood on three occasions before Lauren slipped past
the defence and calmly and with great poise in a tense situation took on the keeper and slotted the
equalizing goal just before the sirenand the crowd went wild!
Everyone of our kids performed magnificently in what was a tense and at time physical match and the
Sideline Scribe was very proud.

An interesting side note was that the opposition coach remarked:
That blonde girl with the curly hair had a blinder of a match. She was very skilled and was all over the

Well Done Kids

CYGNET U11 REDS v SACRED HEART RED

This team is a mixture of U10, U11 and U12 and as such we have been entered into the U11 Division 4
category. The skills and experience vary from never having played before to having a few years under
the belt. With two short practice sessions behind us the team fronted up on Saturday to play their first
match against Sacred Heart.
Well, I would like to congratulate the team on a magnificent debut. All of them showed determination
and enthusiasm to clear the ball out of defence. to pass to one another and to hound the opposition
goal consistently. There was some great ball skills shown as well as pace and vigorous tackles.
Admittedly the opposition wore down without any substitutes but the Cygnet team never gave up
winning 5 goals to 1.
Well done to all the team and if they can carry their enthusiasm through to the end of the season, I
think they will do well.
Thanks also to the support of the parents.
Goals: Bodhi Borowski 3 Max Kingston 2
Cygnet U11 Green versus Kingborough Lions
Won 4:0
Goals 2 Codi Barrett, 1 Cobi Beecroft, 1 own goal
A great start to the new season, with the sun shining and eleven eager kids ready for their first match.
And it was a terrific match where Cygnet dominated play. Cobi was goalie in the first half, did a great
job in saving everything that came close to him, but the defence line didn't let much passed them.
Codi scored 2 goals fairly quickly in the first half which was a great morale booster for the side. Then he
nearly scored a third but it went through the keepers legs touching him before continuing into the goal
so an own goal in our favour. In the second half, Codi was the keeper and didn't let anything passed
while Cobi scored the last goal for the game. It was a really good game with everyone playing their
part. Demi, Riley, Rory, Denzel and Elliot had some real opportunities playing mid and forward to really
attack the goals and there were a few shots that were unlucky not to have scored. Finn, Sascha,
Callan and Leyroy had some great defensive play really keeping the ball out of our defensive half and
straight back into our attack on most occasions. After 6 months of not playing as a team, with Callan
and Finn joining in, everyone worked well together with good communication, good team play some
excellent passing and everyone kept their mind on the game and didn't let the little things bother
them. Well done team, off to a flying start.

Cygnet U13 Girls v Taroona

The under 13 girls played a great game on Sunday. The team has 11 players and are in an 8 a side
competition. All the girls played together last year except for Samara who is a wonderful addition to
the team with her focused approach and competitive spirit.
The girls are more experienced and understood their positions so took to the field with great
enthusiasm. The defence was led by Niah who did an excellent job of keeping the defenders in
position and on their players. Madeline, Chloe, Annalise and Imogen worked together to keep the ball

away from the Taroona a goal.
Up front Danielle, Sadie, Maia, Molly and Bobbin showed Samara the ropes and put a lot of pressure
on Taroona. Danielle scored the first goal and then Sadie got one before halftime. Taroona got one
back but the team was feeling confident at half time. The second half saw Taroona score another to
equalise. Danielle put us in front again but Taroona also found the back of the net one more time.
The proud Cygnet supporters were very vocal and got to watch a group of motivated players who
gave it their best.
Final score Cygnet 3 drew Taroona 3 (Danielle 2 Sadie 1)

Cygnet Sea-Dragon Victory Song

Chorus:
Green is the Colour
Football is the Game
Were all together
And winning is our aim
So cheer us on
Through the sun and the rain
For Cygnet, Cygnet is our name
Verse 1:
Here by the Huon whether rain or fine
We can shine
All the time
Home or away
Come and see us play
Youre welcome any day.
Repeat Chorus
To Finish:
What do we eat?
Seaweed
How do we eat it?
Raw
