INVITATIONS TO COMMENT
Models of Care for Mental Health Units
The ACT Government has commenced community consultation on draft
preliminary models of care for a young persons’ Mental Health Unit and
Secure Adult Mental Health Unit.
A number of community consultation sessions are to be held to seek input
into the draft models of care which will inform the design of the new units.
This is an exciting opportunity to participate in and influence the design
process from the outset.
Listed below are the details of the community consultation sessions. These
sessions will be convened by ACT Health staff. If you would like to attend
one of the sessions please nominate your preferred session to Rosemarie

Have your say on Canberra’s energy future
The ACT Government has recently launched two major discussion papers
in the energy sector – the proposal to expand the electricity Feed-In Tariff
Scheme and the Draft Sustainable Energy Policy 2010-2020.
The Feed-In Tariff discussion paper deals with a possible expansion to
include installations beyond the existing capacity limit of 30kW. The draft
energy policy sets out a proposed framework for reducing the ACT’s reliance
on fossil-fuel powered electricity while making Canberra’s energy supply
more secure and sustainable. You are invited to attend a public information
session.

Draft Report: Electricity Feed-in Premium Rate (Call
for Submissions)
On 30 October 2009, the Minister for Energy, Simon Corbell MLA, requested
the Commission to provide advice to assist with determination of the
premium rate paid for electricity supplied by compliant renewable energy
generators to the distribution network under the provisions of the Electricity
Feed-in (Renewable Energy Premium) Act 2008. The referral is subject to the
provisions of the Independent Competition and Regulatory Commission Act
1997.
The Commission released a Draft Report on 4 February 2010 setting out
its advice on determination of the rate for the period 1 July 2010 to 30
June 2011, and on a mechanism for annual adjustments of the rate for the
following four years.

Written submissions on the Draft Report are invited. The closing date for
submissions is Thursday 4 March 2010. Submissions should be sent to GPO

Construction works at Bonner and Crace
Akron, the Land Development Agency’s (LDA) contracted construction company
for Stages 1A and 1B2 in Bonner, has entered into voluntary administration. In
effect, this means that an administrator has been appointed to determine Akron’s
future and manage its financial affairs.Akron is also contracted to construct some
civil works in Crace.

Symptoms of H1N1 influenza
The symptoms of H1N1 influenza are similar to the symptoms of seasonal
influenza – high temperature, cough, runny or stuffy nose, sore throat, body
aches, headache, chills and tiredness. Some people also report vomiting and
diarrhoea.
Keep a close watch on people with influenza. Seek medical attention immediately
if you, or a person you are caring for, experiences severe flu-like symptoms, which
include:
• shortness of breath, rapid or difficulty breathing, or chest pains;
• bluish or grey skin colour;
• sudden dizziness, confusion or disorientation;
• severe or persistent vomiting; and
• rapid deterioration.
In children, watch out for additional signs of illness. See your healthcare provider
immediately if your child:
• is much sicker than usual;
• seems to be getting worse or becomes drowsy;
• has fast or laboured breathing;
• has a fever that is not getting better; or
• is not drinking enough fluids.
People with existing chronic medical conditions (such as respiratory disease,
diabetes, obesity, weakened immune systems) and pregnant women are at
increased risk of serious health complications from H1N1 influenza. People
with these conditions should consult their healthcare provider if they develop
flu-like symptoms. The most effective measure in preventing H1N1 influenza is
vaccination.

your GP or call the Community Health Intake Line during business hours on

Young Canberra Citizen of the Year Awards –
nominations close 14 February 2010.
The Young Canberra Citizen of the Year Awards 2010 are an opportunity for the community
to recognise young people aged between 12 and 25 years of age who have
made a significant contribution to the ACT community. The community may
nominate a young person they know for one or more of the seven categories and
nominations can be made online. The Award winners will be announced at a
ceremony to be held during National Youth Week in April 2010. Each of the seven
category award winners will receive prize money and a plaque in recognition of
their achievements.
The Award categories include:

• Personal Achievement;
• Group Award;
• Youth Arts;
• Individual Community Service;
• Young Entrepreneur; and
• Young Environmentalist.
