Coverage Planning using Online Planning Tool
PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVE
Upon successful completion this experiment, the student will be able to learn:
1.
Coverage planning using online tool as RF Area Coverage Tool.

Description:
Online RF Area Coverage Tool:
This allows you to observe the radiation pattern and coverage for a given transmitter. It works on
Google Maps (up to 150km, credit required) and via Google Earth at up to 30km (FREE). You should
get a map with crosshairs in the centre near to your geographic location. To move your antenna, move
the map. Once moved, the latitude and longitude fields will update automatically meaning you should
not need to type this in manually, although the option remains open.

Input your transmitter's frequency, power and height above ground level (AGL). The receiver
height defines the height of your distant stations and is crucial if you're to get an accurate prediction.
Select your terrain and climate. Both these factors affect propagation. Dry arid ground does not
conduct RF as well as a wet swamp for example. The default of continental will be fine if you're not
sure.

The lower sensitivity threshold (Receiver sensitivity) is from 0 to -140 with a default of -100.
Selecting -140 will result in shades of purple to denote weak reception whereas -100 will not show
these weak areas at all. If you do not know your sensitivity leaves it as is.
Ground clutter refers to obstacle heights. A town with 30ft buildings would have a GC value of
about 5M. Custom clutter overlays are possible with SPLAT! But not via this web interface yet. Color
contours will display results in either decibels or decibel micro volts. Leave as is if unsure.

KML/PNG background will affect your file-size and loading time. Transparent is fastest.

Finally, select your range in the red selection box. This will determine the time the calculation takes
and the price. Small calculations below 20km radius are free. Calculations above 20km take longer
and use lots of CPU time on the server, which will be charged from you.

Please be patient and do not interrupt the process once you click 'calculate'.

When get the result, seek below the page and you will find download options for KMZ file. Download
the file and open it with Google Earth. Now repeat all the steps and make another cloud and download
its KMZ file and open in Google Earth again. Now verify that two RF clouds have some overlapping
and overlapping should be extent to near green signal RF zone of adjacent site.
Now try to design a Route and find that are you able to provide coverage to users
Default Parameter Values are
