Qualities you might want in a friend could be range from, someone you can relate
with, to someone
that is the complete opposite of you.
Some people come into our lives and quickly go. Some stay for a while and leave
footprints on
our heart. Who can be a best friend? Almost everyone has one, and almost
everyone is...
irst, it is easy to find abundant sources that make you entertaining and
fun around you, but it is hard to find a true friend who can give you a hand
when you are in need. What do you do when you are bored? You probably
turn on the computer and play games or surf internet. Also, you can go
outside play some sport. You do not need to have friend just for fun
because there are many other activities to entertain you. However, what
can you do, when you are in need of something that you cannot do it
without some help from others? That is when you need a friend who can
give you help when you need it. But when you need help, you need
someone to help you. Like, in a school, you are absent one day, and
teacher is going to discuss important materials for next test in class. No
one really can help you to get that information even parents cannot do
this for you. On the other hand, your good friend in your class can help
you to have the information. He or she help you to understand the
material and give you a note to copy. This shows that it is more important
to select a friend who can help you when I need it whereas there are a
number of source which can replace a pal whom you can have fun with.
There is nothing better than surrounded by good friends. You may look at
some people and their friends with envy as they chat away happily and
participate in activities together. It may be hard to figure out which
friends are better when considering the friends who can have fun with and
the friends that can get help from. From my perspective, the people who
are willing to help me in the crisis time are much more cherished than who
just want to stay with me to have fun.
important materials for next test in class. No one really can help you to get that
information even parents cannot do this for you. On the other hand, your good
friend in your class can help you to have the information. He or she help you to
understand the material and give you a note to copy. This shows that it is more
important to select a friend who can help you when I need it whereas there are a
number of source which can replace a pal whom you can have fun with.
Also, the friends who can be with you when you face straitened circumstances are
true friends. There is a famous proverb that "a friend is need is a friend indeed."
This sentence indicates that real friend will appear in the proper time, but the friend
who just stays with you when you are in the top of life and leave you as quick as
possible when you drop off the mountain is not a good friend. Friends for fun can be
stay with you the short period of time and you may share good memories together,
but are they really going to stay with you when you two will have bad memories?
When you are happy and everything is going well, you do not see what is real
relationship is because people will treat you better than ever. But when you are in
bad situation and asking for help, they, who are not true friend of yours, will leave
you because you are no longer benefit to them. But the real friends stay beside you
whether good or not, and they never turn their back on you. For example, Helen
Keller was a kid; she was frustrated for her blindness and deafness every day.
However, her teacher came into her life, and things begun to change. Although, it
was very hard for her teacher to teach Helen Keller to learn language, she went
through all these difficulties because she truly loved her with all her heart. Finally,
Helen Keller succeeded at last. If her teacher left her because of difficulties, Helen
would never able to overcome her disability and learn language. Going through
hardship together makes two friends bond stronger because they share same thing
each other.
To sum up, it is good to have fun with friends. But it will be much better when you
have fun with people who you love and you believe that they will not leave you no
matter what. You can learn more knowledge and improve your life through the
friends' help. The proverb stands as a touchstone of true friendship.
It states that only that person who helps us when we are in need or difficulty is a
true friend.
In our daily life we come across people who over a period of time become close to
us. But we cannot be sure if they are true friends or just fair-weather friends. Many
people develop contacts with influential people for their benefit. It will be a great
mistake if one considers these apparently close people as friends. The test of true
friendship is in time of difficulties. On the other hand, the fair-weather friends
disappear in times of trails. They find excuses to distance themselves from us.
But a true friend will always stick to a person when if that person is in deep trouble.
He will be concerned about the welfare of a person when he considers as a friend. If
need be, he will make every effort to help his friend overcome the difficult situation,
instead of running away from him. As the saying goes, prosperity makes friends
and adversity tries them.
Take for example the friendship of Antonio and Bassanio in the Shakespearean play
The Merchant of Venice. Antonio helps Bassanio even at the cost of losing his lifea pound of flesh.
The Epics of India showcase timeless illustrations of true friendship. In the
Ramayana, it is between Rama and Sugreva. In the Mahabharata, it is between
Krishna and Kuchela; between Duryodhana and Karna. Such friendship stands the
test of time. Such friends are lifes greatest blessing. Friendship with people like
these last a lifetime.
Thus the proverb not only shows the nature of a true friend but also offers a method
of choosing good friends. It also cautions us of fair-weather friends.
You may have been a polite, soft-spoken student of gentle manners. Your friend may
be dominant, may be rough, roguish and given to evil ways. Your friend will take
advantage of your innocence, your softness and may trick you, lead you to a wrong
path. He may be a drug addict, he may be a smoker, he may drink and observing
him you may in the long run become an addict to drugs, you may smoke and drink.
You may do all these things without the knowledge of your parents. On coming to
know that you have bad habits your parents may feel shocked, your teachers may
be displeased with you, your relatives will hate you.
A friend who has good habits, who is gentle and well- mannered is an inestimable
friend. His good character improves you and in due course you will turn out to be
well-mannered and gentle even if you had some bad qualities. A friend who helps
you by giving you advice, by helping you to clear your doubts in your lessons, a
friend who is intelligent and knowledgeable is indeed an inestimable friend. A friend
in need is a friend indeed.
A poem says that if you have friendship with a person of bad character you become
nameless and formless like the drop of water on a frying pan on the burning oven.
The drop of water on a hot frying pan evaporates and disappears. So also a bad
friend will spoil your image and you are no longer a good person. Just as good water
stinks and becomes black and impure when it mixes with sewage so also a bad
friend spoils you and you stink because of your bad qualities. Your fair name is spoilt
by your association with a bad friend of the blackest vices.
A student should be careful, very, very careful when selecting friends. A good friend
will make you shine.
There are people who like to have many friends. But this should not be so. We
should have only a few friends, but they must be our true friends A friend is one
who can share your joys and sorrows
Rich people may have many friends in their prosperity. All like to enjoy themselves
at the expense of those who are rich. Most of them are only fair- weather friends. If
the rich man loses his money, all his friends will leave him. This shows that they are
not true friends. They fail the test of friendship.
It is adversity that tests friendship. If a man is in trouble or in need and his friend
stands by him that is a true friend. A good friend will never desert a man in his hour
of danger.
One is reminded of an old story about two men and a bear. Two men who were
supposed to be friends were crossing a forest. Suddenly they saw a bear coming,
towards them. One man immediately climbed a tree, leaving the other to face the
bear alone. The other man could not climb trees. So he threw himself flat on the
ground and pretended to be dead. The bear came up to him and smelt him all over.
Thinking he was dead, the bear walked away. The man who was up in the tree came
down. He asked his friend what the bear had whispered in his ear. The other man,
being clever, said "The bear told me not to trust any man who runs away from me
when I am in danger." This story proves that a friend in need is a friend indeed.
5. A friend in need is a friend indeed
A friend is a person who is very close to your heart; your close friend is even
referred to as your bosom friend. Initially, he or she, having hailed from a family
other than yours, is a third party and a total stranger to you. Your familiarity with
him or her gradually develops into a friendship. The familiarity might have
developed from your childhood days, just because he or she was your school mate;
from your adulthood, when he or she was your college mate, he or she might have
been a co-worker or a colleague, when you joined a company or an office for your
employment.
Thus familiarity is the key that plays a vital role in the origin and development of
friendship. Sometimes, a friendship may develop out of a casual introduction when
you go to a temple or church or when you attend a social gathering or function;
sometimes, you may come across unknown people who offer to help you and admit
you in a hospital when you meet with an accident; such people linger in your
memory;you continue your relationship with them that develops into a friendship.
You may be having a number of friends, who may accompany you to witness a
movie, to drink with you in a popular bar or even dance with you in a night club.
They all simply enjoy the life with you. Hence, it is not a parameter or yardstick to
find out the true friendship. Here comes this proverb in handy. A friend in need is a
friend indeed.
The Tamil classic Thirukkural written by Thiruvalluvar aptly describes the true
friendship in a chapter titled friendship as follows:
If you get undressed suddenly, your hands will come to your rescue instantaneously
to prevent you from getting humiliated or embarrassed; likewise, a friend should
come to your rescue when you are in extreme hardship or adverse circumstances.
That is the essence of friendship. That is true friendship.
Similarly you may be suffering from any one of the adverse circumstances as
follows:You may be in need of funds to admit your ward in a college or you may have to
undergo an emergent heart surgery or you may have to redeem your house that
was attached in the court proceedings for your debts, failing which you and your
family will be literally in the street.
After making your own efforts to mobilize the required funds, if you feel that you are
still short of funds, you have no other go but to necessarily approach your friends
for mobilizing funds; now it is the acid test for your friends and their friendship. If
they are true friends and cherish and value your friendship, they will come to your
rescue or else they will simply forsake you on the one pretext or other.
Thus, if your friend comes forward to help you in case of your need and exigency,
he is a true friend; Therefore, a friend in need is a friend indeed.
