Happy Mothers Day to all our mothers! Thank you, women who are mothers! You have
sheltered human beings within yourselves in a unique experience of joy and travail. This
experience makes you become God's own smile upon the newborn child, the one who guides your
child's first steps, who helps it to grow, and who is the anchor as the child makes its way along the
journey of life (Letter of Saint JPII to Women, June 29, 1995) Especially nowadays that the
unique vocation of motherhood(female) and fatherhood(male) is threatened to be destroyed by
same sex marriages and other societal forces, let us continue to pray for all our mothers and ask
the help of the Blessed Virgin Mary that their role echo that of hers: Motherhood is linked to
the personal structure of the woman and to the personal dimension of the gift: I have brought a
man into being with the help of the Lord (Gen 4:1)... On the woman's part, this fact is linked in a
special way to a sincere gift of self . Mary's words at the Annunciation Let it be done to me
according to your word" - signify the woman's readiness for the gift of self and her readiness to
accept a new life. (Blessed JPII, Mulieris Dignitatem, No 18) May God bless all our mothers
always and may they be always opened to the gifts of the Holy Spirit for guidance and strength!
I am sorry and sad to announce that I will be transferred by July 1st this year to Holy Cross Parish
in Hutchinson, KS as their new pastor and director of the parish school. The parish has around
1,200 families and has a school from Pre-K to 6th grade. The past four weeks have been very
difficult for me as I knew by then that I will be moving away and that every event, especially the
past few special occasions, were my last in this parish. I wish I could have told everyone as soon
as I knew it, but I am bound by secrecy as there is a schedule of simultaneous announcements
that is during this weekend. I am sad after being told by Bishop Kemme of the planned move as I
love this place and I have gotten close to many of you. Besides, I still have more plans to do in
Girard and Arma and I felt that I am not done yet with my mission here. Obviously God has
some other plans. And I am sure it will be for everybody's good! I am bound by obedience and I
did not choose to come here although I am grateful and happy to have been assigned here. The
same with my going to Hutchinson. I did not ask for it and I did not choose to be assigned there.
I will certainly miss this place and all of you! I will pray for all of you always and the parish and
your next Pastor! I am happy to announce to you your next pastor, coming this July 1st is Fr. Max
Biltz. He was ordained a priest together with Fr. Chad Arnold and three others by Bishop Jackels
in 2010. Next week I will be writing more about him that you may be acquainted with him when
he gets here. Please pray for him and for me as well.
Please pray for the souls of those who died: Elizabeth Strukel and Doris Hudson. Both are from
Saint Michael parish. The funeral masses were celebrated Friday, May 8th - Betty's at 10AM and
Doris was at 2PM. Robert "Bob" Pazzie in Arma also passed away Thursday. They are planning
for the funeral on Tuesday evening, May 12th but this is not finalized yet as of this writing. Kindly
include their souls and their families in your prayers. Eternal rest grant unto them O Lord! And
let perpetual light shine upon them. Amen.
God bless you all! Fr. Roger

INVITATION FROM THE BISHOP

In the words of Pope Francis, The home represents the most
precious human treasures, that of encounter, that of relations among
people, different in age, culture and history, but who live together and
together help one another to grow. For this reason, the home is a crucial
place in life, where life grows and can be fulfilled, because it is a place in
which every person learns to receive love and to give love. (May 21,
2013).
Bishop Kemme is inviting the people of the diocese, as
individuals, families, parishes and corporations to join together
in building two Habitat for Humanity homes. Thisproject will
be called Pope Francis Build and is possible in part by a
generous gift from an anonymous donor.
Please join us for a wine and cheese Open House at 1238 N.
Poplar in Wichita between 4pm - 6pm on May 14th. There
will be an opportunity for questions and answers regarding our
Pope Francis Build and you can tour the model home to see
what our home(s) will look like when finished.
To volunteer for a build day or for additional information,
please contact Bonnie Toombs in the Respect Life Office at
316-269-3935 or toombsb@CatholicDioceseOfWichita.org.
