Advanced technology has made communication
easier, faster and also cheaper. We now use e-mails
because they are cheaper than conventional mail.
All these have made communication faster, easier
and cheaper. Computers are used to send emails.
We hope that one day we will be able to use computers
that are powered by energy from the sun. The suns energy is free.
Answer the questions.
1. How do we send e-mails?

Appendix 3

Lets read the article below and answer the comprehension questions.
A long time ago, people used drums, homing pigeons and smoke
signals to send messages to one another. Nowadays, we use telephones, emails
and facsimiles. The early telephones were bulky. Today, most people use mobile
phones to communicate with each other.
With todays technology, mobile phones can be powered by solar
energy. Already available in the market today are solar calculators and solar
wristwatches that run on energy from the sun. They can store energy in their
batteries, thus replacing dry cell batteries.
Most animals communicate with other animals of the same species
by producing sounds through the mouth. Tiger and lions roar. Horses neigh and
whinny. Ducks quack. Dogs bark, growl, howl, snarl, whine and yelp. Mice squeak.
Pigs grunt and squeal. Elephants trumpet and bulls bellow. Goats, sheep and
lambs are bleat. Donkeys bray and frogs croak. Hens cluck and cackle. Geese
cackle, gobble and hiss. Doves and pigeons coo. Cocks crow and apes gibber.
Snakes hiss and owls hoot. Cats meow and cows moo. Bears growl. Birds chirp,
twitter, warble, whistle and sing. Cicadas chirp. Monkeys chatter and crows caw.
Its wonderful how humans and animals exchange messages.
