Do you know anyone alive or dead who dedicated his or her life to the poor?

If you said
Mother Teresa, than you guessed it! Mother Teresa was born in Macedonia on August 26, 1910
and died September 5, 1997. At the age of eight, her father died of a sudden illness, but because
of this, she did not just cry and give up in life. She actually dedicated her life to God as a nun at
the age of 18. She taught at St. Marys High School for Girls and in 1944 became the principle of
the school. Soon after that, Christ told her to go work in the slums of Calcutta to help the sick
and poor. She quit teaching and she did as God said after 6 months of medical training. The rest
of her life she did good deeds for the poor and the sick. After she died, she became a Saint.
Perseverance, determination, and compassion are three of Mother Teresa strongest character
traits.
Let us start with perseverance the trait of hard work and determination. In 1982, Mother
Teresa traveled to Beirut, Lebanon to aid children. While she was there, a battle was occurring
near the Ajaza-al-Islamia Mental Hospital. She did all she could to help evacuate children. At the
end, she evacuated 37 children with the help of Red Cross. Some of the children were not aware
of what was happening, but some were. When the children were aware, Mother Teresa comforted
them. I have never been in war, but I have seen the famine and death. I was asking myself, what
do they feel when they do this. I dont understand it. They are all children of God. Why do they
do it? I dont understand ~ Mother Teresa. Mother Teresa persevered through this event because
she worked hard to rescue 37 children regardless of how difficult it was.
Next is determination. In February 1965, Mother Teresa was granted the Decree of Praise
by Pope Paul VI to let her charity, Missionaries of Charity become international. Today she has
610 foundations in 123 countries all around the world. In 1971, Mother Teresa established her
first charity in the United States in the South Bronx of New York. She was awarded the Nobel

Peace Prize in 1971 for work undertaking in the struggle to overcome poverty and distress
which also constitutes a threat to peace. Someone who is determined has a strong feeling about
needing to achieve something. Mother Teresa had that strong feeling about helping the needy by
establishing charities.
Last and most important is compassion. It means sympathy for others and determination
to help them. Well, there are many reasons why Mother Teresa is compassionate, but the most
important reason is that she dedicated her whole life to the poor and the sick. She was awarded in
1971 by Pope John XXIII for helping with poor, charity, and peace. Even in the last days of
her life, she still helped the sick and poor by visiting and praying for them. Compassionate
people dedicate their whole lives loving and caring for others and Mother Teresa did just that.
In the end, Mother Teresa always did the right thing by standing up to help the sick and
poor. She was a person who persevered, was determined, and always compassionate. Mother
Teresa led the way so others could follow her example. She is an inspiration to others in finding
ways to help the sick and poor of today. There is no greater leader than Mother Teresa.
