THE NOVENA TO THE DIVINE MERCY
ACT OF CONTRITION
ALL: O my God, I am heartily sorry for having offended
Thee, and I detest all my sins, because I dread the loss of
Heaven and the pains of Hell, but most of all because they
offend Thee, my God, Who art all-good and deserving of
all my love. I firmly resolve, with the help of Thy grace to
confess my sins, to do penance and to amend my life and
to avoid the near occasion of sins. AMEN.
ACT OF CONSECRATION TO THE DIVINE MERCY
ALL: We consecrate our entire life from here on to you
without reserve. Into your hands we abandon our past, our
present, our future. Jesus, we ask you, from this day on, to
look after this family. Help us to be true children of God
and children of Your Blessed Mother Mary. Through this
image, may Your Divine Mercy triumph over all the
powers of evil the world over. May all who venerate it
never perish. May it be their joy in life, their hope in
death, and glory in eternity. This we ask through Christ
Our Lord, AMEN.
ALL: You died, Jesus, but the source of life gushed forth
for souls and the ocean of mercy opened up for the whole
world. O Fount of Life, unfathomable Divine Mercy,
envelop the whole world and empty Yourself out upon us.

the Divine Mercy which would begin on Good Friday.
2. The Sermon by the priest on that day should be on Divine
Mercy, that is the mercy which God the Father bestows on
us through Jesus Christ His Son.
3. That we contemplate, on this day, the Mystery of
Redemption as the greatest revelation of Divine Mercy
towards us.
4. The Image of the Divine Mercy is to be ceremoniously
blessed.
5. The Image is to be publicly venerated. The image should be
exposed to all taking part in the celebration and an image
could be left in a position that all can touch and say “Jesus I
Trust In You”. This can be carried out as people leave the
Church if numbers prevent it during the ceremony.
6. Confession and Communion on the day. If confession is not
possible on the day it should be as close to the day as
possible. Communion is to be a worthy one on this day and
must be accompanied by complete Trust in Divine Mercy.
7. That an act of Mercy should take place in our lives, as part
of our preparation for the feast. We should be merciful to
others in our words, deeds and prayers.

and immerse them in My unfathomable mercy.
It was they who gave Me strength to endure My bitter
Passion. Through them, as through channels,

good, increase Your grace in us that we may perform
worthy works of mercy, and that all who see them may
glorify the Father of Mercy who is in heaven.
Eternal Father, turn Your merciful gaze upon the

of Priests and Religious - and endow them with the
strength of Your Blessing. For the love of the Heart of

PRAYER OF MERCY
ALL: O Jesus, eternal Truth, our Life, I call upon You and
beg Your mercy for poor sinners. O sweetest Heart of my
Lord, full of pity and unfathomable mercy, I plead with
you for poor sinners. O Most Sacred Heart, Fount of
Mercy from which gush forth rays of inconceivable graces
upon the entire human race, I beg of You light for poor
sinners. O Jesus, be mindful of Your own bitter Passion
and do not permit the loss of souls redeemed at so dear a
price of Your most precious Blood.
O Jesus, when I consider the great price of Your
Blood, I rejoice at its immensity, for one drop alone would
have been enough for the salvation of all sinners.
Although sin is an abyss of wickedness and ingratitude, the
price paid for us can never be equaled.
Therefore let every soul trust in the Passion of the
Lord, and place its hope in His mercy. God will not deny
His mercy to anyone. Heaven and earth may change, but

who do not yet know Me.
I was thinking also of them during My bitter Passion,
and their future zeal comforted My heart.

whole world. Receive into the abode of Your Most
Compassionate Heart the souls of those who as yet do not
believe in You or do not know You. Let the rays of Your
grace enlighten them that they, too, together with us, may
extol Your wonderful mercy; and do not let them escape
from the abode which is Your Compassionate Heart.
Eternal Father, turn Your merciful gaze upon the
souls of pagans and of those who as yet do not know You,
but who are enclosed in the Most Compassionate Heart of
Jesus. Draw them to the light of the Gospel. These souls do
not know what great happiness it is to love You. Grant that
they, too, may extol the generosity of Your Mercy for

FIFTH DAY PRAYER 
"Today bring to Me the souls of heretics and
schismatics, and immerse them in the ocean of My mercy.
During My bitter Passion, they tore at My Body and
heart, that is, My Church. As they return to unity with
the Church, My wounds heal, and in this way they
alleviate My Passion."
ALL: Most Merciful Jesus, Goodness Itself, You do not
refuse light to those who seek it of You. Receive into the
abode of Your Most Compassionate Heart the souls of
heretics and schismatics. Draw them by Your Light into
the unity of the Church, and do not let them escape from
the abode of Your Most Compassionate Heart; but bring it
about that they, too, come to glorify the generosity of Your
Mercy.
Eternal Father, turn Your Merciful gaze upon the
souls of those of heretics and schismatics, who have
squandered Your Blessings and misused Your Graces by
obstinately persisting in their errors. Do not look upon
their errors, but upon the love of Your own Son and upon
His bitter Passion, which He underwent for their sake,
since they, too, are enclosed in His Most Compassionate
Heart. Bring it about that they also may glorify Your great
Mercy for endless ages. AMEN.

St. Faustina said,
“I will not allow myself to be so absorbed in the whirlwind
of work as to forget about God. I will spend all my free
moments at the feet of the Master hidden in the Blessed
Sacrament. He has been tutoring me from my most tender

Jesus told her:
“Write this: before I come as the just Judge, I am coming
first as the King of Mercy. Before the day of justice
arrives, there will be given to people a sign in the heavens
of this sort:
"All light in the heavens will be extinguished, and there
will be great darkness over the whole earth. Then the sign
of the cross will be seen in the sky, and from the openings
where the hands and the feet of the Savior were nailed will
come forth great lights which will light up the earth for a
period of time. This will take place shortly before

 The First torture that constitutes hell is: The loss of God.
The Second is: Perpetual remorse of conscience.
The Third is: That one's condition will never change.
The Fourth is: The fire that will penetrate the soul
without destroying it. – a terrible suffering since it
is a purely spiritual fire, lit by God's anger;
The Fifth Torture is: Continual darkness and a terrible
suffocating smell, and despite the darkness, the
devils and the souls of the damned see each other
and all the evil, both of others and their own.
The Sixth Torture is: The constant company of Satan.
The Seventh Torture is: Horrible despair, hatred of
God, vile words, curses and blasphemies. “
“These are the tortures suffered by all the damned together...
I would have died at the very sight of these tortures if the
omnipotence of God had not supported me. Let the sinner
know that he will be tortured throughout all eternity,
in those senses which he made use of to sin.
I am writing this at the command of God, so that no soul
may find an excuse by saying there is no hell, or that nobody
has ever been there, and so no one can say what it is like.
“I, Sister Faustina, by the order of God, have visited the
abysses of hell so that I might tell souls about it and testify
to its existence.
I cannot speak about it now; but I have received a command

SIXTH DAY PRAYER 
"Today bring to Me the meek and humble souls and the
souls of little children, and immerse them in My mercy.
These souls most closely resemble My Heart. They
strengthened Me during My bitter agony. I saw them as
earthly Angels, who will keep vigil at My altars. I pour
out upon them whole torrents of grace. Only the humble
souls is capable of receiving My grace. I favor humble
souls with My confidence."
ALL: Most Merciful Jesus, You Yourself have said "Learn
from Me for I am meek and humble of heart". Receive into the
abode of Your Most Compassionate Heart all meek and humble
souls and the souls of little children. These souls send all
heaven into ecstasy, and they are the heavenly Father's
favorites. They are a sweet-smelling bouquet before the Throne
of God; God Himself takes delight in their fragrance. These
souls have a permanent abode in Your Most Compassionate
Heart, O Jesus, and they unceasingly sing out a hymn of love
and mercy.
Eternal Father, turn Your merciful gaze upon meek and
humble souls, and upon the souls of little children who are
enfolded in the abode which is the Most Compassionate Heart
of Jesus. These souls bear the closest resemblance to Your Son.
Their fragrance rises from the earth and reaches Your very
Throne. Father of mercy and of all goodness, I beg You by the
love You bear these souls and by the delight You take in them:
Bless the whole world that all souls together may sing out the
praises of Your Mercy for endless ages. AMEN.

SEVENTH DAY PRAYER 
"Today bring to Me the souls who especially venerate and
glorify My mercy, and immerse them in My mercy. These
souls sorrowed most over My Passion and entered most
deeply into My Spirit. They are living images of My
Compassionate Heart. These souls will shine with a special
brightness in the next life. Not one of them will go into the
fire of hell. I shall particularly defend each one of them at the
hour of death."
I demand from you deeds of mercy, which are to arise out of
love for Me. You are to show mercy to your neighbors
always and everywhere. You must not shrink from this or
try to excuse or absolve yourself from it. I am giving you
three ways of exercising mercy toward your neighbor:
The first - by deed,
The second - by word,
The third - by prayer.
In these three degrees is contained the fullness of mercy,
and it is an unquestionable proof of love for Me. By this
means a soul glorifies and pays reverence to My mercy.

SEVENTH DAY READING

READER:
HOW SHOULD WE VENERATE THIS IMAGE
OF THE DIVINE MERCY? By having it blessed and
displayed in an honorable place in our homes and also in
our places of work. We can carry a small card of the
image with us a reminder of God’s abiding presence to
draw mercy from the fount of mercy, to trust Him, and to
do works of mercy.
Our Lord said: “By means of this image,
image, I shall
grant many graces to souls.” (Diary II, 742)
The Chaplet of the Divine Mercy is special, because
the Lord designed it as a special vessel of grace and He
Himself taught it to St. Faustina. It is a priestly and
Eucharistic prayer for mercy, for all in need of mercy and
can be said at any time. So our Lord’s promises are special
for those who pray the Chaplet.
"Oh what graces I will grant to souls who say this
Chaplet: the very depths of My tender mercy are stirred
for the sake of those who say the Chaplet.”

“Write that when they say this Chaplet in the presence of
the dying, I will stand between My Father and
the dying person, not as a judge but as
the Merciful Savior". (Diary V, 1541)

during their lifetime and especially at the hour of their

EIGHTH DAY PRAYER 
"Today bring to Me the souls who are in the prison of
purgatory, and immerse them in the abyss of My mercy.
Let the torrents of My Blood cool down their scorching
flames. All these souls are greatly loved by Me. They
are making retribution to My justice. It is in your power
to bring them relief. Draw all indulgences from the
treasury of My Church and offer them on their behalf.
Oh, if you only knew the torments they suffer, you would
continually offer for them the alms of the spirit and pay
off their debt for My justice."
ALL: Most Merciful Jesus, You Yourself have said that You
desire mercy; so I bring into the abode of Your Most
Compassionate Heart the souls in Purgatory, souls who are very
dear to You, and yet, who must make retribution to Your
justice. May the streams of Blood and Water which gushed
forth from Your Heart put out the flames of purifying fire, that
in that place, too, the power of Your mercy may be praised.
Eternal Father, turn Your merciful gaze upon the souls
suffering in Purgatory, who are enfolded in the Most
Compassionate Heart of Jesus. I beg You, by the sorrowful
Passion of Jesus Your Son, and by all the bitterness with which
His most sacred Soul was flooded: Manifest Your mercy to the
souls who are under Your just scrutiny. Look upon them in no
other way but only through the Wounds of Jesus, Your dearly
beloved Son; for we firmly believe that there is no limit to Your
goodness and compassion. AMEN.

NINTH DAY PRAYER 
"Today bring to Me souls who have become lukewarm,
and immerse them in the abyss of My mercy. These
souls wound My Heart most painfully. My souls
suffered the most dreadful loathing in the Garden of
Olives because of lukewarm soul. They were the reason
I cried out: "Father, take this cup away from me, if it be
Your will". For them the last hope of
salvation is to flee to My mercy."
ALL: Most Compassionate Jesus, You are Compassion
Itself. I bring lukewarm souls into the abode of Your Most
Compassionate Heart. In this fire of Your pure love let
these tepid souls, who, like corpses, filled You with such
deep loathing, be once again set aflame. O Most
Compassionate Jesus, exercise the omnipotence of Your
mercy and draw them into the very ardor of Your love; and
bestow upon them the gift of holy love, for nothing is
beyond Your power.
Eternal Father, turn Your merciful gaze upon
lukewarm souls, who are nonetheless enfolded in the Most
Compassionate Heart of Jesus. Father of Mercy, I beg You
by the bitter Passion of Your Son and by His three-hour
agony on the Cross: Let them, too, glorify the abyss of
Your mercy. AMEN.

Once the Lord said to St. Faustina:
"Act like a beggar who does not back away when he gets
more alms (than he asked for),
but offers thanks the more fervently.
You too should not back away and say that you are not
worthy of receiving greater graces when I give them to you.
I know you are unworthy, but rejoice all the more and take
as many treasures from My Heart as you can carry, for
then you will please Me more.
And I will tell you one more thing - take these graces not
only for yourself, but also for others; that is, encourage the
souls with whom you come in contact to trust in My
infinite mercy. Oh, how I love those souls who have
complete onfidence in Me.

FIFTH DAY READING

St. Faustina in her diary said, “The Lord permitted
me to see the immensity and greatness of His Mercy. If
only souls could realize how much God loves them!
Earthly human understanding, is only a pale shadow of the
reality.” Jesus pleaded for help in seeking the return of all
who have lost their faith and offended God.
He said to His Secretary, St. Faustina:
“Write, the greater the misery of a soul, the greater its right
to my mercy, urge all souls to trust in the unfathomable abyss
of My mercy, for I want to save them all. On the cross, the
fountain of My mercy was opened wide by the lance for all

FOURTH DAY READING

READER:
The message of Our Lord to St. Faustina is about
His great Mercy for all mankind. There is a great urgency
about His message of mercy, because He wants no one to
miss out on it when the day of justice comes.
In these messages, there is an urgent focus on
NOW. NOW is the time of mercy. NOW is the time for
salvation, before He comes in judgment. St. Faustina
recorded the Lord’s words of urgency:
Jesus said to St. Faustina:
“The loss of each soul plunges Me into mortal sadness. You
always console Me when you pray for sinners. The prayer
most pleasing to Me is prayer for the conversion of sinners.
Know, My daughter, that this prayer is always heard and

“While there is time, let (mankind) have recourse to
the Fount of My Mercy.” (Diary II, 848)
“The awful day, the day of justice, is near.” (Diary II, 965)
“Before the Day of Justice,

about My mercy; let all mankind recognize My unfathomable

St. Faustina said: “Jesus gave me to know that when
I pray for intentions which people want to entrust to me,
He is always ready to grant His grace. Jesus said:
“So I turn to you, you--chosen souls, will you also fail to
understand the love of My Heart?
Here, too, My Heart finds disappointment; I do not find
complete surrender to My love. So many reservations, so
much distrust, so much caution. To comfort you, let Me
tell you that there are souls living in the world who love
Me dearly. I dwell in their hearts with delight.
But they are few. In convents too, there are souls that fill
My Heart with joy. They bear My features;
therefore the Heavenly Father looks upon them with
special pleasure. They will be a marvel to angels and men.
Their number is very small. They are a defense for the
world before the justice of the Heavenly Father and a
means for obtaining mercy for the world.
The love and sacrifice of these souls sustain the world in
existence. The infidelity of a soul specially chosen by Me
wounds My Heart most painfully. Such infidelities are
swords which pierce My Heart.” (Diary I, 367)

TO THE DIVINE MERCY
I fly to Your Mercy, Compassionate God, who
alone are good. Although my misery is great and my
offenses are many, I trust in Your mercy, because You are
the God of mercy; and, from time immemorial, it has
never been heard of, nor do heaven or earth remember, that
a soul trusting in Your mercy has been disappointed.
O God of compassion, You alone can justify me and
You will never reject me when I, contrite, approach Your
merciful Heart, where no one has ever been refused, even
if he were the greatest sinner… [For Your Son assured
me:] “Sooner would heaven and earth turn into
nothingness than would My mercy fail to embrace a
trusting soul.”
Jesus, Friend of a lonely heart, You are my haven,
You are my peace. You are my salvation; You are my
serenity in moments of struggle and amidst an ocean of
doubts. You are the bright ray that lights up the path of my
life. You are everything to a lonely soul. You understand
the soul even though it remains silent. You know our
weaknesses and, like a good physician, You comfort and
heal, sparing us sufferings — expert that You are. AMEN.

St. Faustina’s Praises of the Divine Mercy

The Love of God is the flower—Mercy the fruit. When St. Faustina told her confessor, she received a
reply from the priest: "That refers to your soul. Certainly,
Let the doubting soul read these considerations on Divine paint God’s image in your soul." When she came out of
Mercy and become trusting: the confessional, she again heard words such as these:

FIRST DAY READING

READER:
The diary of St. Maria Faustina H. Kowalska is the
record of her life experience – the journey of her soul. She
was graced by a special communion with God, and the
diary expresses her conviction that this communion ought
to be the center of our lives.
St. Faustina herself stated that she desired by this
writing to fulfill the expressed command of the Lord Jesus
and the order of both her confessors. She also
acknowledged that she desired through this Diary to
inform people of the goodness and grace of God. She also
noted frequently that she wrote it with the expressed
permission of her Superiors, which constituted for her the
confirmation of God’s will.
She told us about the Novena that:
“Novena to The Divine Mercy which Jesus instructed me
to write down and make before the Feast of Mercy.
It begins on Good Friday.”
Our Lord’s words recorded by St. Faustina in her diary:
“I desire that during these nine days you bring souls to the
fount of My mercy, that they may draw therefrom strength
and refreshment and whatever graces they need in the
hardships of life, and especially at the hour of death.”
“On each day you will bring to My Heart a different group
of souls, and you will immerse them in this ocean of My
mercy, and I will bring all these souls
into the house of My Father. “

nothing to any soul whom you will bring to the fount of
My mercy. On each day you will beg My Father, on the
strength of My bitter Passion, for graces for these souls.”
“I answered, ‘Jesus, I do not know how to make this

Compassionate Heart.’ Jesus replied that He would tell
me which souls to bring each day into His Heart.”
