YoushouldhavealreadyinstalledandberunningUbuntu.YoumightbesurprisedtoknowyoucanrunUbuntufroma
USBdrive.Itwouldbeeasiertorelatetoallthetopicsifyoualreadymadea"HelloWorld"usingSAPUI5onEclipseon
Windowsalready.
Environment
ItesteditoutwithUbuntu12.04.Itshouldworkwithfurtherversionstoo.
Problem
WeareallusuallymorefamiliarwithrunningSAPUI5applicationsonWindowsandwishifwecouldrunitallon
Linux/UbuntubutmaynotbefamiliarwithhowtogoaboutitasLinuxscaresoffmostofus.

Solution
Bytheendofthisdocument,youwillberunningyourSAPUI5appsinEclipseinUbuntu.

STEP1:EclipseneedsJDK
GotoTerminal(Ctrl+Alt+T)andrunthefollowingcommand:
sudoaptgetinstallopenjdk7jdk

STEP2:Downloadlatest"EclipseIDEforJavaDevelopers"fromthebelowlink
EclipseDownloads

YoumaycheckoutyourOSType32bitor64bitbygoingtoSystemSettings>Details>

STEP3:ExtractEclipseto/opt/forglobaluse
GotoTerminal(Ctrl+Alt+T)andrunthefollowingcommand

cd/opt/&&sudotarzxvf~/Downloads/eclipse*.tar.gz

STEP4:CreatealaunchershortcutforEclipse
GotoTerminal(Ctrl+Alt+T)andrunthefollowingcommand:
gksudogedit/usr/share/applications/eclipse.desktop

Abovecommandwillcreateandopenthelauncherfileforeclipsewithgedittexteditor.
Pastebelowcontentintotheopenedfileandsaveit.
