CASA BATLLO

Casa Batll is a renowned building


located in the center of Barcelona and
is one of Antoni Gauds masterpieces.
The local name for the building is Casa
dels ossos (House of Bones), as it has
a visceral, skeletal organic quality.

CASA MILA

Casa Mil popularly known as La


Pedrera meaning the 'The Quarry', is
a modernist building in Barcelona,
Catalonia, Spain. It was the last civil
work designed by Catalan architect
Antoni Gaud, built between the years
1906 and 1910.

GLASGOW
SCHOOL OF ART
1845, Mackintosh

The Glasgow School of Art (GSA)


is Scotland's only public self-governing art
school offering university level programmes
and research in architecture, fine art and
design. The school is housed in one
of Glasgow's most famous buildings, often
considered the masterpiece of Charles
Rennie Mackintosh and built between 1897
and 1909. The building was severely
damaged by fire in May 2014.

HILL HOUSE

Hill House in Helensburgh, Scotland is


one of Charles Rennie Mackintosh's
most famous works, probably second
only to Glasgow School of Art. It was
designed and built for the publisher
Walter Blackie in 1902 1904.

HOTEL SOLVAY

1900, Horta

The Htel Solvay is a large Art Nouveau town


house designed by Victor Horta on the Avenue
Louise in Brussels. The house was commissioned
by Armand Solvay, the son of the wealthy Belgian
chemist and industrialist Ernest Solvay.

HOTEL TASSEL
1900, Horta

The Hotel Tassel is a town house built by Victor


Horta in Brussels for the Belgian scientist and
professor Emile Tassel in 18931894. It is generally
considered as the first true Art Nouveau building,
because of its highly innovative plan and its
groundbreaking use of materials and decoration.
Together with three other town houses of Victor
Horta, including Horta's own house and atelier it
was put on the 'UNESCO World Heritage List' in
2000. It is located at 6, Rue Paul-Emile
Jansonstraat in Brussels.

The Baslica i Temple Expiatori de la Sagrada


Famlia designed by Catalan architect Antoni
Gaud (18521926). Although incomplete, the
church is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and in
November 2010 Pope Benedict XVI consecrated
and proclaimed it a minor basilica, as distinct from
a cathedral which must be the seat of a bishop.

ENTRANCES

The Paris Mtro or Mtropolitain is a rapid


transit system in the Paris Metropolitan Area. A
symbol of the city, it is noted for its density within
the city limits and its uniform architecture,
influenced by Art Nouveau.

VIENNA
SECESSION

The Vienna Secession also known as the Union of


Austrian Artists, or Vereinigung Bildender Knstler
sterreichs) was formed in 1897 by a group of Austrian
artists who had resigned from the Association of Austrian
Artists, housed in the Vienna Knstlerhaus. This
movement included painters, sculptors, and architects.
The first president of the Secession was Gustav Klimt,
and Rudolf von Alt was made honorary president. Its
official magazine was called Ver Sacrum.

WERKBUND
EXHIBITION THEATER

The Deutscher Werkbund (DWB) was mixed


association of architects, artists and
industrialists, founded in 1907 in Munich, by
Hermann Muthesius. Of great importance in the
history of Modernist architecture and modern
design, was a precursor to the Bauhaus.

WHITECHAPEL
ART GALLERY

The Whitechapel Gallery is a public art gallery


on the north side of Whitechapel High Street, in
the London Borough of Tower Hamlets.
Designed by Charles Harrison Townsend, it was
founded in 1901 as one of the first publicly
funded galleries for temporary exhibitions
in London, and it has a long track record for
education and outreach projects, now focused
on the Whitechapel area's deprived populations.

MAJOLICA HOUSE

1899, Wagner

Otto Wagner's ornate Majolika Haus (Majolica House)


is named after the weather-proof, painted ceramic
floral designs on its faade. Despite its flat, rectilinear
shape, the building is considered Art Nouveau.
Wagner used new, modern materials and rich color,
yet retained the traditional use of ornamentation. The
eponymous majolica, decorative iron balconies, and
flexible, S-shaped linear embellishment accentuate the
building's structure. Today Majolika Haus has retail on
the ground floor and apartments above.
