Show Your Love dinner and
dance in February
MECOSTA — The Mecosta County
Senior Center will be hosting its
annual Show Your Love dinner
and dance from 6 to 9:30 p.m. on
Feb. 13 at the senior center.
The senior center is honored to
have a special group from the
Chippewa Hills String Orchestra
perform.
Dinner will begin at 6 p.m. with a
choice of stuffed chicken or fish,
a twice baked potato, vegetable
melody, salad, roll and a raspberry
torte cake for desert.
Dancing will begin at 7 p.m. with
celebrity DJ Bill Beckwith of
WWBR 100.9 keeping the dance
floor moving. The night also will
feature raffles, games and prizes.
Raffle drawings will be held at 9
p.m.
Tickets are $15 a person in
advance with proceeds going to
the Senior Meals Program. To

Haworth starts hiring
BIG RAPIDS – Those looking for
jobs at Haworth Inc.’s Big Rapids
wood plant can apply, starting at
8 a.m. today through next week, at
four locations in Big Rapids, Reed
City and Baldwin.
Applicants can begin the
application process:
n From 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. from
today through Feb. 12 at the
Michigan Works! offices in Big
Rapids, Reed City and Baldwin;
and
n From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
today, Monday and Tuesday
at Haworth’s steel plant in Big
Rapids.
The deadline to apply is 4 p.m.
on Feb. 12. People must apply in
person.
“They’re not going to hire
everybody all at once,” Griffith
said. “They’ll increase their
number of employees in a gradual
manner of the next several
months.”
Haworth is hiring for team
manufacturing manager positions
starting at $10.53 per hour and
up to $12.69 after two years.
They also are hiring for machine
operators starting at $13.22 per
hour and up to $15.81 after two
years.
Haworth, a manufacturer
of organic workspaces, is
consolidating its operations to
west Michigan and is expected to
hire roughly 112 workers for its
Big Rapids facility over the next

The six-day window to apply is

Not an End

More than 80 percent of
Americans give to charities. But
a 2007 survey conducted by
Indiana University’s Center on
Philanthropy found that only 8
percent of all Americans include
legacies in their wills. Considering
2009’s rocky economy, that
percentage has surely dropped.
Many Americans worry that,
by leaving a charitable bequest,
they may put their heirs at a
disadvantage. But leaving a legacy
in your will could reduce the
estate taxes that the will’s other
beneficiaries need to pay. Gifts

THE ANGEL ANIMAL RESCUE will be
participating in the international Spay Day held
on Tuesday, February 23. The rescue will be
providing female cat spay surgeries for half price
($20) and male cat neuter surgeries for free.
We have no additionsl fees. It is first come, first
serve with a two cat maximum per family. Check
in is at 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. at 22203 Northland

percentage of each surgery but, any remaining
money goes directly to help the animals. We

• Registration begins January 2nd at Croton Bay Trading Post, Hilltop Shopping
Center, Croton American Legion, and Gene’s Market, all in Newaygo County. We
have also added Party World on Alpine Ave., Ladds & Co. and Ray’s Mini Mart,
both in Muskegon. You can register anytime until 10 am February 13th.
• Fishing on Croton and Hardy Ponds only.
• $5.00 per Adult, $2.00 for children 13 and under. Every person who registers gets
one raffle ticket for a chance to win some great prizes.
• Additional tickets are available to purchase. Proceeds go to Big Brother and Sis-
ters of Newaygo County.
• You must be in line for weigh in at the American Legion by 3:30 p.m.
• Thursday, February 11th, 4-9 p.m. Fish Fry at the Red Anchor Inn. Fried/Boiled
Pollock with Baked Potato & Coleslaw.
• Friday Pre-party at the Driftwood starting at 9 p.m. and the “Dam She’s Hot Con-
test”, plus live music.
• American Legion will have live music on Friday and Saturday night with great bev-
erage prices.
• Check in at the Leinenkugel’s area on the ice to play Corn Hole Toss and Hockey
Slap Shots. There will also be Hot Coffee and Cocoa and Hot Dogs provided by
NCCS.
• Pangburn Properties will be holding an open house on the ice. Look for the shanty
that is being raffled off to see what is available.
• Freeze Frame Publishing will be taking photos and making a book commemorat-
ing the day. Stop by with your fish for a photo.
