Overview
This chapter describes how to mount the ERAM-A Remote Aggregator in 600 mm
equipment racks.
3.2
In CO and CEV deployments, the fan unit of the ERAM-A Remote Aggregator should
10 / 48
be operated with a fan filter installed. These filters must be changed every three months
or sooner, depending on conditions; otherwise, overheating and thermal failure may
result. Use only new, Alcatel-Lucent approved fan filters.
In OSP cabinets deployments, the shelf fan unit must be operated without fan filters;
otherwise, overheating and thermal failure may result.
Released
The intake and exhaust of all shelf mounting configurations must not contain any
obstructions caused by cabinet mounting hardware, rack hardware, or other electronic
equipment in the areas shown in Figure 3-1. The intake and exhaust should not
obstruct or interfere with shelf-level airflows so that bulk airflows drop below the
minimum cooling airflow for the shelf.
Avoid operating the ERAM-A Remote Aggregator with its fan unit removed or
non-operational; overheating or thermal failure will result if the shelf is operated too
long without a fan unit installed.
Warning When used in the vertical mounting orientation, the
ERAM-A Remote Aggregator or shelves must be mounted above concrete
or some other non-combustible surface.

General
You can install one or more ERAM-A Remote Aggregators horizontally in 600 mm
equipment racks.
The ERAM-A Remote Aggregator does not have any cable management features.
Alcatel-Lucent recommends that you install a cable management tray of at least 4.5 cm
below each ERAM-A Remote Aggregator installed in an equipment rack to meet specific
fiber and copper bend radius requirements.
See Environmental and mounting constraints for additional information about the site
requirements for mounting an ERAM-A Remote Aggregator in an equipment rack at the
CO or CEV.
Mounting Brackets
Mounting brackets must be used to install the ERAM-A Remote Aggregator in a rack.
These brackets are available as kits and must be ordered separately. Two kits are
available:

4.2
Safety precautions
The following safety precautions apply:
Danger 1 Before working on the power supply unit, verify if it is not
live.
If the power supply unit is live, which can deliver -48 Vdc or -60 Vdc, you
must use an insulated tool kit and consult the manual on working on live
components.
Danger 2 Avoid risk of electric shock!
Always wear protective gloves and footwear for all handling tasks.
Carefully follow the instructions.
Warning 1 Before connecting to the mains power, verify the
specifications of all equipped fan units to ensure the correct voltage will

Grounding connections
This section provides information about making ground connections to an ERAM-A
Remote Aggregator.
General
Grounding the ERAM-A Remote Aggregator provides safety for the electrical devices in
the shelf by drawing current away from the shelf. Grounding also prevents the equipment
from being energized if there is an internal power fault on the shelf. and keeps ESD
current away from internal electrical components. See the 7330 ISAM FTTN Safety
Manual for more information about ESD measures.
Grounding connections are made to two grounding points on the chassis of the ERAM-A
Remote Aggregator.
Prerequisites
The following tools and hardware are required to make the grounding connections.
Tools required
Connect the two-hole grounding lug on the ground cable to the ERAM-A Remote
Aggregator grounding points using two nuts and lockwashers; see Figure 4-1 for
the location of the grounding points.

If a single-hole grounding lug is used, install a cable tie or use cable lacing cord to
secure the ground cable to prevent lug rotation.
Route and connect the other end of the grounding cable as per site practices using the
cable management tray to secure cables as needed.
Power cabling
This section provides information about installing the power cabling for an ERAM-A
Remote Aggregator that uses a single or dual -48 Vdc or -60 Vdc power supply.
General
The ERAM-A Remote Aggregator operates with -48 Vdc or -60 Vdc supplied by battery
power sources in the CO. This power is provided by the Power Distribution Frame (PDF)
to the ERAM-A Remote Aggregator.
Warning The dc supply to the ERAM-A Remote Aggregator must be
protected by the use of an approved external slow-blow fuse or single-pole
breaker sized greater than 5 A but less than the maximum required to
protect the 0.75 mm2 power feed cables.
Power cables are routed from the PDF to the ERAM-A Remote Aggregator and are
connected to the power terminals on the front panel of the ERAM-A Remote Aggregator.
In order to minimize interference and optimize xDSL performance, it is advisable, but
not a minimum requirement, to route cables using separate channels for signal and power
cables.
Keeping a distance of 10 cm between signal and power cables is advisable where it
imposes no practical problems.
20 / 48
Released
Crossing of signal cables with power cables and parallel routing over short distances are
acceptable.
Prerequisites
The following tools and hardware are required to install the power cabling.
Tools required
Put on the antistatic wrist strap and connect it to a grounding point. See the
7330 ISAM FTTN Safety Manual for more information about ESD measures.

General
The ERAM-A Remote Aggregator uses the RAMF-A fan unit. The fan unit contains
three axial fans. The axial fans push air into the system to cool the installed units and
maintain sufficient air circulation.
The fan unit is usually preinstalled in the ERAM-A Remote Aggregator. The fan unit is
removable and hot-swappable.
The RAMF-A fan unit is field-replaceable. Fan filters are field-replaceable and filter
replacement should be a regularly scheduled maintenance procedure; see Section 5.4.
Use only Alcatel-Lucent supplied replacement fan filters. See the 7330 ISAM FTTN
Product Information document for fan unit and fan filter part number information.
34 / 48
Released
You must install fan filters if the ERAM-A Remote Aggregator is installed in a CO or
CEV. If the ERAM-A Remote Aggregator is located in a remote cabinet or outside plant,
you must not use fan filters. See Environmental and mounting requirements for
information about environmental requirements.
Note Change the fan filter a minimum of every 3 months or sooner,
depending on conditions.
If a fan filter is not required, the empty fan filter carrier must always be
installed in the fan filter slot.
During the fan unit replacement procedure, the ERAM-A Remote Aggregator raises a
major alarm when the fan unit is removed, and a fan alarm is reported. As soon as the fan
unit is reinstalled and operational, the fan alarm is cleared.
Prerequisites
The following tools are required to replace a fan unit.
Tools required
Put on the antistatic wrist strap and connect it to a grounding point. See the
7330 ISAM FTTN Product Information for more information about ESD measures.
Remove the replacement fan unit from its ESD protective container and place on a clean
surface.
If you are installing the fan unit in an ERAM-A Remote Aggregator located in a CO
or CEV, you must install a fan filter; see Section 5.4.
If you are installing the fan unit in an ERAM-A Remote Aggregator located in a
cabinet, do not install a fan filter; go to step 4.
Loosen the screw on the fan unit and pull the fan unit out of the fan slot; see Figure 5-2.
