Project Proposal

WWF
My main aim for this project was to capture the essence of the charity WWF and
convey it through the animation that we create. I feel that James and I created a
very emotional piece that could potentially be taken as quite dark in plot. I feel
that this emotional plot to our animation helps to convey the aims of the charity
WWF well, and I feel we have succeeded in capturing the charity within our
piece.
Another element that I wanted to achieve with this animation is the chance to
push myself further as a 2D animator. For this animation, James drew all of the
Keyframes for the whole piece. I then took these keyframes and created the inbetweens for almost all of the shots involving the mother and her child. This
provided me with the opportunity to in-between action orientated scenes that is
something I have wanted to push myself to do. I feel inbetweening these scenes
has improved my animation skills as I now can see how movement can work for
an action piece. I can use this information in the future.
Also inbetweening James keyframes has provided me with the means to improve
my skills of taking an existing character and being able to animate with it. This is
a crucial skill to have, as within industry the characters that you animate with
are almost ever your own, therefore having the ability to take somebody else's
character and continuing their animation is imperative.
Another part of the animation process that I mentioned in the project proposal
was this animation could potentially lead into the use of after effects in
postproduction that is something that I have been keen to try. In the end we did
use after effects in our projects, to add in a digital clock following the mother and
a grain effect to the whole animation to give it a more distressed feel. However, I
feel like I could have pushed this element of the animation further as I feel that
the parts of the animation appear to be tacked on. I wish that I could have taken
more time in postproduction to teach myself compositing techniques and create
a more beautiful animation. However, I am still happy with the overall aesthetic
of the piece I just feel it could have been improved
Whilst I feel it was beneficial to work in a pair for this animation I found it difficult
to not take some the assets that were provided to me and redo them myself in
my own style, such as the backgrounds. While I liked the backgrounds provided
to me by James, I feel they could have been improved on. Even though I created
some backgrounds to use in the animation, I found it hard to not bring myself to
push using my backgrounds instead of the ones seen in the animation, as I am
not that sort of person. However this has giving me the knowledge that I should
start pushing my ideas more as it could improve the project being worked on.
Overall, I am happy with my WWF animation however, I do feel that my final
major is a much more personal piece and I prefer it over the WWF project.
