Salvo 4 - Black Is A Matter Of Taste. Theo Van Dusseldorp

Salvo 2015 ISBN 9789082029123 Acqn 24822
Pb 24x32cm 60pp 200col ills 13.50
In 2004, four members of Salvo began their education in photography at the Royal Academy of
Art in The Hague. Theo van Dusseldorp, a master of the mediums technical aspects, was their
professor for several years. Although photography is traditionally considered a medium balancing
art and technique, few publications explicitly show their mutual interaction. Here, the intimate
relation that exists between art and technique, between advertisement and science, is articulated
through a selection of the over 25,000 Polaroids Van Dusseldorp made between 1978 and 2001
as studies for his product photos. He recently gave them to Salvo, who were free to use them as
they saw fit.

Salvo 5 - Actual Size

Salvo 2015 ISBN 9789082029130 Acqn 24923
Pb 26x39cm 32pp 39ills 30col 13.50
Although photography is inherently considered to be an objective medium, nevertheless a picture
almost always involves scaling. It seems that we have become accustomed to interpreting photos
- recognition and scaling of depicted objects is an automatic response to seeing photographs.
This issue of 'Salvo' shines a light on the duality of actual representation. Every photograph inside
this publication is either printed on the same size as the object that is photographed, or is a study
on how to achieve this actual representation.
