2 A Short History of Facebook

Facebook was

invented by Harvard computer science student Mark Zuckerberg , along with classmates Eduardo
Saverin, Dustin Moskovitz, and Chris Hughes . The origins to the name hints as to the history of
Facebook, however, the website was originally and briefly called Facemash. On February 4, 2004 Mr.
Zuckerberg launched "The Facebook", as it was originally known; the name was taken from the sheets
of paper distributed to freshmen, profiling students and staff. Within 24 hours, 1,200 Harvard students
had signed up, and after one month, over half of the undergraduate population had a profile. Facebook
is the second largest social network on the web , behind only MySpace in terms of traffic. Primarily
focused on high school to college students, Facebook has been gaining market share, and more
significantly a supportive user base. Since their launch in February 2004, they've been able to obtain
over 8 million users in the U.S. alone and expand worldwide to 7 other English-speaking countries, with
more to follow,The network was promptly extended to other Boston universities, the Ivy League and
eventually all US universities. It became Facebook.com in August 2005.

2.Mark Zuckerberg
Mark Elliot Zuckerberg (born May 14, 1984) is an American computer programmer and Internet
entrepreneur. He is best known as one of five co-founders of the social networking website Facebook.
Since 2010,Time magazine has named Zuckerberg among the 100 wealthiest and most influential people
in the world as a part of its Person of the Year distinction .Some 1.4 billion people around the globe are
on Facebook, and those users watch 3 billion videos a day on the site. Zuckerberg is also
philanthropically active: he and his wife Priscilla Chan committed $25 million to fight Ebola in October
2014 and $75 million to a new trauma center at San Francisco General Hospital in February 2015.

5.The Social Network

The Social Network" explores the moment at which Facebook, the most
revolutionary social phenomena of the new century, was invented. then creates a
campus website called Facemash by hacking into college databases to steal photos
of female students, then allowing site visitors to rate their attractiveness. ,
Facemash's popularity attracts the attention of Harvard upperclassmen and twins Cameron and Tyler
Winklevoss and their business partner Divya Narendra. The trio invites Zuckerberg to work on Harvard
Connection, a social network for Harvard students aimed at dating. After agreeing to work on the
Winklevoss twins' concept, Zuckerberg approaches his friend Eduardo Saverin with
an idea for what he calls Thefacebook, an online social networking website that
would be exclusive to Ivy League students . When they learn of Thefacebook, the
Winklevoss twins and Narendra are incensed, believing that Zuckerberg stole their
idea while keeping them deliberately in the dark by stalling on developing the
Harvard Connection website. . As Thefacebook grows in popularity, Zuckerberg
extends the network to Yale University, Columbia University and Stanford
University. Lee arranges for Saverin and Zuckerberg to meet Napster co-founder
Sean Parker , who presents a "billion dollar" vision for the company that impresses
Zuckerberg. He also suggests dropping the "The" from Thefacebook. At Parker's
suggestion, the company moves to Palo Alto, with Saverin remaining in New York to
work on business development. However, Saverin confronts Zuckerberg and Parker
when he discovers that the new investment deal allows his share of Facebook to be
diluted from 34% to 0.03% while maintaining the ownership percentage of all
other parties. . Saverins name is removed from the masthead as co-founder.

The epilogue states that Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss received a settlement of
$65 million signed a non-disclosure agreement, and rowed in the 200 Beijing
Olympics, placing sixth; Eduardo Saverin received a settlement of an unknown
amount and his name was restored to the Facebook masthead as a co-founder; the
website has over 500 million members in 207 countries and is valued at 25 billion
dollars; and Mark Zuckerberg is the world's youngest billionaire.
Nowadays Facebook seems to be more than something that we use daily, it is more like a close friend that always
stands beside us, even when we don't want it to. Tehnology plays an important role in our life, and so do phones,
computers and, of course, the Internet. Now everyone has a phone or more, now everybody can search on the
Internet for the things they want to see to look for, to buy or just to read some news. I tend to believe that
everybody has a Facebook profile, photos that they take every day and post on Facebook. Also, sharing music on
Facebook is very cool, just like having new friends that can admire and see our photos and so on. Even if having a
Facebook profile sounds like not having any problems, we need to know that there might be some that can affect
us somehow. Privacy is the most important aspect of which we must to take care of, because if we let our
information available to anyone, we might lose our identity for a short period of time, and that means losing who
you are.
In conclusion, when we talk about Facebook and we do it everyday, it is like talking about a friend that
knows everything about everybody, even about me. It is very important for us to understand that having a
Facebook profile is normally nowadays, but forgetting to live with your deareast persons and prefering to stay in
front of the computer or mobile phone, instead of going out and to have a great time, this seems to more than
horrible. Seeing you in front of a computer waiting your time, won't make me like that.
