My son and his girlfriend took the
Metro bus from SV to SC today.
Someone had left a used needle
and syringe with blood spatter on
the bus seat. The bus driver
immediately pulled over and
cleaned it up using the protocol in
place for that. Then the bus is
taken out of service and cleaned.
Disgusting. What a waste of time

My nephew (6 years old) almost

grabbed a needle from the ground
as we were walking from the
bowling alley to the boardwalk at
the end of summer about two
weeks before school started. The
needle by the Boardwalk Bowl was
up the hill where they had fenced it
off at the time it was right along
the fencing a little up from the
motel by the bowling alley parking
lot.
Total of 3 needles (1 in October, 1
in November, 1 in December)
found in the dumpster area that is
never locked up between 506 and
510 Laurel. People are in there
every day and every night getting
cans and bottles and then shoot up.
(I) caught them three times, busted
them once, almost left before cops
came.
Lovely hike along Aptos Creek in
Nisene Marks today was ruined by
a needle we spotted in the river
while crossing the shallow
riverbed. This was the part of the
park that is very close to the town
homes on Village Creek. We used
a doggie bag to carry it to the
ranger on duty at the entrance. He
looked perplexed at what to do
with it.
Found 2 needles near Water at
Water Street Bridge. Called 911
for PD to pick up. FYI there was
a small coin purse here too- several
cards but we let it be so I can't say
what they were and the officer took
care of it. There was also an
additional cap without a needle.

You can add these to your count.
Tell everyone to not let their kids
play in the sea weed at the tide
level! I found one syringe with a
needle still in it. I don't know if it
was used or not. Wasn't gonna go
that far. I just put it in a baggie
with the other things. I also found
an empty cartridge with no needle
in it. I looked for the needle in the
sea weed but didn't find it. I also
found a piece of a balloon and 2
empty tubes of what I was told was
sterile water for mixing Just as I
was driving away, a ton of school
kids on a field trip to that beach
were getting there. SHAKING MY
HEAD! I wasn't looking for
them, just walking. I started
picking up cig butts and garb when
I saw them in the sea weed at the
tide brought in. On my back up the
beach, I started looking in the sea
weed and found more. I should
have gone back over the whole
beach edge. Now it's gonna haunt
me!(Photos taken 383N.001(Photos taken 383N.001-006)

Needle found in the gutter next to a

parked car on the 100 block of
Walnut Avenue. Video taken. A
few notes: 1) this video was shot in
front of a federal building! 2) as
you can see, the needle was
directly under a security camera. 3)
there was a 2nd needle on the
sidewalk nearby. 4) both needles
were capped, possibly unused. 5) I
called the police non-emergency
number, and when I came back a
few minutes later, the needles were
gone.

returned to the parking lot and I

them. One of the women called
SCPD who directed her to the
proper person. We were told that
they would send someone out. Im

Saturday, Feb. 1st. 11 a.m.. It was
found in wet sand near stagnant
water just on the ocean side of East

during (a middle school group's)
clean up. We had a sharps
container with us-all kids were
instructed to get an adult if any
needles were found (can't believe
that is an automatic part of the
speech for kids who are learning
stewardship in our area.) The
middle school group has adopted
Twin Lakes State Beach, they're
doing monthly cleanups in
conjunction with Save Our Shores.
Eric Malmberg: In case these
haven't been reported yet, 2
needles have been found so far,
one on 1/11/14 and one on 2/1/14,
both at Twin Lakes Beach (1 was
in the rocks and 1 was at the edge

1 more needle found at a business

on the 900 block of Ocean
Found these on a short walk on
Seabright Beach, there were so
many people with small children
playing on the beach today that this
concerns me, there is a lot of
debris and kelp piles all over there
is surely more hidden. 3 needles,
some caps, and a bottle of distilled
water like the type that SSP gives
out.
Found 1 as I was jogging by on
Highway 9 between Brookdale and
Ben Lomond
281 needles found today in creek
below camp. Location: top of main
Evergreen path, 40 feet beyond
under the huge fallen redwood
trees there was a camp. Below that
camp was 20 used needles
scattered near a big bag the
needles.. in the ivy, in the creek.
I'm sure I missed a few. We
cleaned out the camp (about a
Truck load), and demoed the area.
The area is visible from the top of
the path. There were used ones in
the bag.. but most appeared
unused. Most of the loose ones I
put in the bottles (seen in the
picture). The needles lined up are
from the bag, some are used. A
number likely fell down further
between logs/rocks/ivy.

Solo clean at Lost Boys this

morning. One person, two hours, 2
bags (~80lbs) of trash, 12 needles
found. Lots of stuff strewn about,
but not great volumes. An unpaid
bill addressed to Woburn, MA; an
empty envelope to a guy in Ben
Lomond; several BART cards, lots
of clothing view, several makeshift
cookers and county issue sterile
water. See pics for notable finds.
Cleaning the south end near Mott,
cleaned up 35 pounds of trash and
1 syringe.
Found 3 more needles in an alley

According to their blog, SCPD
pulled over a stolen vehicle,
arrested the driver and found a
drug kit which included needles.
We are estimating there were about
100 needles, but the needle count
will not be increased, since a stolen
vehicle is not a public space.
This needle was found right in
front of (a business on the 2700

3 needles found in the courtyard

There were also 2 caps, a coke-can
cooker and a tin of tobacco.
Children present. Police were
called for pick up.
Found 2 needles next to the
recycling center.

I was walking this morning and
saw someone else find a

Two containers of needles found

by a City worker this morning on
the levee near the Warrior's

white trash bag. There were a few
needles scattered, but the
containers were filled as you see
them in the picture. This was found
by a Public Works employee next
to a slide gate. Public Works does
periodic maintenance on the 12
slide gates along the SLR. They
often have to remove needles,
human waste, soiled clothing and
empty alcohol bottles before
performing maintenance tasks like
string trimming around the area.
(Logkeeper's Note: 100 needles
was the conservative estimate of
the reporter. 180 is the
approximation recorded by Chris

The City's Ranger Log lists 156 as
the total number of needles found

the really odd thing is that a

have checked it out with their

another needle find - Date: June

15. Found by a neighbor of the
Grant Park/Emeline neighborhood.
Found on the Market Street "path"
that follows the cement canal.
Cap found downtown
I was rubbing out graffiti on the
recycle cans at the back door of the
building (of a business at the 500
block of Ocean St.) this evening
,[thats right next to the B-40 storm
channel] and saw that this is
obviously another 'shoot-up' area.
There were 3 total that i found
intact without caps, i had gloves on
so i gathered them all into a pile
[photo #1] near where the cans are.
Note: Received this report
originally from an eyewitness, then
spoke with Johnny and received
confirmation. He stepped on a
needle at Cowell Beach on Father's
Day, June 15, 2014. He was there
to go on one his daily swims with
his swimming group. He was
sitting down to put on his swim
cap, then got up to go to the water.
He only took a few steps before his
left foot came down on the needle.
He was treated by the lifeguard. He
saw his doctor the next day, and
was referred to an infectious
disease doctor. He was given blood
tests and a hepatitis vaccine. His
doctor recommended against antiviral treatment since those drugs
are so powerful they "land
(Johnny) in the hospital."

literally right behind the bench that
my husband was sitting. Our
daughter got within feet of the use

Needle found by a Jr. lifeguard

yesterday. Mom of 8 year old child
added this information: I came on
here to post my son found a needle
at Little Guards so parents are
informed. Looks like the Sentinel
wrote it up already- news travels
fast in a small town. They did not
tell me. I heard from other
patents!! I think there should be
better follow up w/ parents. Kids
need a needle 101 at the start of
guards, what they look like, risks/
dangers, and how to secure the
area before notifying an adult to
dispose of it properly. My son is 8
and the only reason he knew was
cause we saw a bunch piled near
the trash at Garden of Eden last
summer so I took that moment to
explain to the kids the danger of
disease, etc. I'm shocked we get
notices that our kids have been
exposed to head lice at school but
no phone call or paper regarding
my child finding a needle. I'm
going to propose a few ideas for
new protocol - please Lmk in
comments below any positive
changes we can implement to help
keeps our kids safe with the rise in

Hello SLV members of TBSC.

This doesn't impact most of you as
it's not SC. However, the needle
issue is not limited to SC proper.
Tonight as I was collecting dry
leaves along my single street-side
parking spot in Boulder Creek just
off Hwy 9, I raked-up an uncapped
used sharp. I don't know if it
counts for Cruz Needles but I did
call it into the 911 non-emergency
number and insisted that the SCSO
come to collect it -- frankly, so I
can share my concern about a
neighboring house that I feel even
more justified to report for
suspicious behavior. Thankful I
was wearing leather gloves and
caught it with a rake (vs. my
gloved hand). Now, I feel unsafe
letting my dogs patrol inside my
gated, fenced property too. Sad sad
sad.

More used needles found at local

park: Please add six more
randomly discarded used
needles/syringes to your recent
tally. These were found by my
inquisitive 4- and 6-year-old kids
while playing in one of our city's
finest parks, Ocean View. These
were then disposed of properly in
medical sharps containers at a local
medical clinic. Sadly these are not
uncommon events in our historic
neighborhood. When is our
wonderful community going to
wake up and hold individuals
accountable for such reckless and
unacceptable behaviors?

was paranoid that the needle was

but didn't see anything else. Big
bummer. I disposed of it.

Yep 2 needles out side my house. I

almost stepped on one of these
beautiful needles. I called 911 they
were here in 10 mins for pick up.
The lady officer was grossed out
shaking her head
I found another needle just now on
Kennedy, between Park and Sir
Francis in Capitola. 10/31/14 at
10:15am. This is the 5th one I've
personally found near this location
in the past few months.
Steve and I found a needle lying on
the ground near the stairs outside
of (a downtown business). It was
on the first floor of the parking
garage at Front & Soquel.
2 needles and cooker found at

On my way to vote. Needle found
outside of 701 Ocean Street
(courthouse) on Election Day. One
block from the red kiosk.
W. Cliff near Fair Ave parking
area, by the tree this morning (cap
but no needle)
I found about 5 tweaker pipes and
one syringe yesterday as I was
cleaning a garage out off of
chantclear. Due to the tenant
getting kicked out for not paying
his rent. But here are the picture I
took of the items. Question, what
are thoseittle white viles for? (only
one needle was found and 4 caps)
(Logkeeper note: this needle was
not included in the official count
because it was in a private
residence, and not in a "public
space")

This probably doesn't count either,

but I have to get it off my chest.
I'm seeing more and more "drug
signs" everywhere. I think they are
just throwing the needles in the
creek, but everything else points to
more use. The plunger was in the
street, the cap in one of at least a
dozen around the Senior Center
and down by the creek. It really
brings me down that it seems on
the rise again. The two new
wrappers were near yesterday's
spot. I actually went down to the
creek at 9:00pm hoping to catch
them. Nothing. I guess they must
be early morning junkies!
I just got back from a walk. I still
can't believe I find drug garbage
every time, but it's true!(Water
capsule found while on walk. No
needles.)

Branciforte Creek Creek

I don't normally post non-needle

needle related items but I walk
along Branciforte Creek every day
and I have to say I have never seen
it so thoroughly trashed in one day!
Needle wrappers, food wrappers,
human excrement napkins used as
toilet paper at least four or five
blankets a couple jackets a
sweater, a purse, several empty
booze bottles, beer cans, energy
drink cans, cotton balls, Q-tips. At
the start of my walk I saw Officer
Inouye (I hope I spelled it right, I
don't have his card). He was
walking very fast, and I never
caught up with him. I hope there
was an arrest. It's possible he
removed needles from the area.
This was the morning of Wed. 0107-14. I assume police supply you
with needle find info? Is that
correct? Should I try to follow up
and ask, when I see him?

I found a syringe in the street at

Grant and Market. The body is
cracked, I assume it has been
stepped on, or run over, or both.
02-11-15 @ 11:47pm. I also found
a whole lot of brand new cookers
and tourniquets and stuff. These
mini cotton balls are new to me.
Are they part of the SSP illegal
drug use facilitation kit? Doe the
small cotton balls allow the addict
to draw a larger amount of heroin
into the syringe? So are we now
helping heroin users get more
heroin into there systems for the
same amount of money? Is this
what we really want. More drugs
into the veins the previously
possible? Wow! That's beyond the
stated goal of providing a clean
needle isn't it?
Just did a walk thru the area the
posted video is showing. The
majority of the mess is cleaned up.
Cruz Needles, we found 1 needle
and 6 caps.
Took my 2year old to the potty at
the live oak $1 store and as I was
going to put her down I noticed 2
used needles on the toilet had I not
noticed when I did she would've
touched them. I threw money on
the counter and left hysterical and
shaking. I've never seen that before
scared the shit out of me.

RIVERWALK CLEAN UP,

2/14,21,23/15. Due to a dead
computer there has been a delay in
sending out stats the last couple of
weeks. Here are the totals for three
days we worked during the last
several weeks now. Some days the
weather was too wet to work in.
STATISTICS: 51 liquor
containers, 3 needles, 5 big bags of
trash, 15 LEVEELIES, 30 Thank
Yous
We went from only 4 signing up to
the most awesome group ever!!!
We had 7 team members, a Saves
Our Shores gal and a AmericorpCCC- we hauled up 1300 lbs. of
debris, couches, cushions,
mattresses, 9 needles, a shopping
cart ( I got to pull out my first) tons
of paint spray cans. 8 Volunteers
rocked!!! Deputy Joe Clark came
to make sure all were vacated. We
have a site where construction stuff
is being dumped, forgot my $20
rope and a store owner went down
there right now and got it for me, I
am beat. Thanks to Java Junction
for donating goodies and coffee
and to the volunteer who wants to
stay nameless

Lynn Robinson and I went on a

walk this morning on the train
tracks from California to the
Boardwalk. We found 5 active
camps, too many needle caps to
count, hundreds of pounds of
garbage and one needle. We didn't
clean but did remove the needle.
(Logkeeper note: Lynn & Lisa
were following up on Katrina's
report)
Cruz Needles- If the police forget
to report them, here are four more
needles on Market Street, near
Grant. The guy, Jimi Ray Haynes
was booked for felony burglary.
He stole things from the house
during the night, or early morning
and then was just sitting on the
sidewalk in front of the house next
door inventorying his loot! After
the victims called 911 there were a
police motor cycle, a cruiser, and
three SUV's within minutes. I'm
going to say an another amazing
response by SCPD. These guys are
good!
Statistics: 46 liquor containers, 13
needle caps and 1 needle, 5 huge

One of my staff here at Lenz Arts

was cleaning and just found two
discarded syringes in our front
planter. Fortunately, the caps were
on them. They appear used. Who
do we give them to again? Last
time, we just had the police come
by and get discovered syringes, but
it seemed that a needle pick-up
wasn't a regular duty for them.
Found these two needles yesterday
morning on Riverside and
Broadway corner. Called the cops
and they came and got them - but
wanted to share with your group
for your records as well.
Dammit. Garfield Park today in the
100 block of Seaside St. The
plunger was nearby, too. I
cancelled a earlier call to the copshop when a parks worker
happened by and said he'd report it
to supervision.
