HIP DIVISION

BMI DIVISION

BAKER GAUGES INDIA PVT LTD COMPANY PROFILE.

Established in 1962, HIP division of Baker Gauges India Private Limited in collaboration
with Horstman Gauge and Metrology of England, started with the manufacture of plain
and thread plug gauges for the very first time in India. This experience of over a decade
in manufacturing gauges instilled the confidence to venture into another collaboration
in 1972 with Thomas Mercer again of England. This was for the manufacture of Dial,
Air and Electronic Gauges. Baker pioneered this process in India.
Fired with a 'passion for precision' today Baker leads in India catering to the needs of
the Engineering metal working industry, not only in India but also now all over the world.
This consistency in precise manufacturing has won us the Awards for Export excellence
consistently for over 14 years. Gauge manufacturing is an engineering art in the field of
Metrology, evolved way back in the ages out of the necessity to measure what was made.
As we advanced over the years this has changed to a level of precision where we are now
splitting a micron to achieve perfection. Performance of both divisions has resulted in
consistent exports which today are to over 50 countries world wide. Today both divisions are
certified to ISO 9001 - 2008 Quality Management Systems and have independent calibration
laboratories with over 100 cubic meters of precisely controlled environment
NABL (National Board for Certification of Calibration Laboratories) accredited complying
to ISO 17025 standard. Our calibration equipment consisting of SIP, IBB Laser Twincheck and
Carl Zeiss horizontal metroscopes, IAC & Talyrond form testers, Talysurf surface anlyser etc
are periodically calibrated by laser interferometer by NPL Delhi. Similarly our standards are
traceable to International as well as National standards. Our aim has been sophistication & honing
our skills in this technology. Having a state of the art infrastructure that consists of latest special CNC
and other special purpose machines, modern surface treatment plant, complete heat treatment
facility and of course our greatest asset, experienced personnel a combination required for producing
this niche product. Today, after 48 years of experience in manufacturing various types of gauges and
instruments in the field of Dimensional Metrology Baker gauges has come a long way in perfecting
this precision technology. Today the group of companies produces a wide range-right from a simple
gauge or an instrument to the higher end masters and gauging machines and by far stands at being
the largest manufacturer of Gauges and measuring instruments in the country.

AUTOMOTIVE

An automobile, autocar, motor car or car is a wheeled motor vehicle used for transporting passengers,
which also carries its own engine or motor. Most definitions of the term specify that automobiles are
designed to run primarily on roads, to have seating for people, to typically have four wheels, and to be
constructed principally for the transport of people.

ENGINE

Internal combustion engines are most commonly used for mobile propulsion in vehicles
and portable machinery. In mobile equipment, internal combustion is advantageous since
it can provide high power-to-weight ratios together with excellent fuel energy density.
Generally using fossil fuel (mainly petroleum), these engines have appeared in transport
in almost all vehicles (automobiles, trucks, motorcycles, boats, and in a wide variety of
aircraft and locomotives).

CRANKSHAFT
Crankshaft : An engine's crankshaft is the main driving shaft which captures the two-way motion of
the pistons, and converts the planar motion of the pumping pistons into rotary motion. The pistons are
connected to the crankshaft by the connecting rods. Hence the pin/journal diameters and distance are
very important.

To check center distance between two bores or between a bore and a shaft or between two shafts
The picture shown is of a center distance-checking fixture used to measure a distance between
a bore and a shaft of 2 wheeler crank. High & Low master is used to set the gauge initially and
then the operator just has to load the job on the fixture and the center distance is indicated on
the electronic readout. The inter connection of jets is done in such a way that variation in either
ID or OD does not affect the center distance.

CAMSHAFT
A camshaft is a shaft to which a cam is fastened or of which a cam forms an integral part.
In internal combustion engines with pistons, the camshaft is used to operate poppet valves. It then
consists of a cylindrical rod running the length of the cylinder bank with a number of oblong lobes
protruding from it, one for each valve. The cam lobes force the valves open by pressing on the valve,
or on some intermediate mechanism as they rotate. in four stroke engine valves are opened by "camshaft"

Gauge is of great help where operator has to make
corrections in the bend and twist values of a
connecting rod depending on the values indicated
by the fixture.

CYLINDER HEAD

In an internal combustion engine, the cylinder head (often informally abbreviated to just head) sits
above the cylinders on top of the cylinder block. It closes in the top of the cylinder, forming the
combustion chamber. This joint is sealed by a head gasket. In most engines, the head also provides
space for the passages that feed air and fuel to the cylinder, and that allow the exhaust to escape.
The head can also be a place to mount the valves, spark plugs, and fuel injectors.

VALVE SEAT AND VALVE GUIDE

Incomplete seating during the press fitting-step, distortion of the nominally circular valve seat surfaces such they deviate
unacceptably from perfect roundness or waviness, tilt of the machined surfaces relative to the valve guide hole axis,
deviation of the valve seat surfaces from concentricity with the valve guide holes, and deviation of the machined conical
section of the valve seat from the cone angle that is required to match the valve surface.

CYLINDER BLOCK

A cylinder block is an integrated structure comprising the cylinder(s) of a reciprocating

engine and often some or all of their associated surrounding structures(coolant
passages, intake and exhaust passages and ports, and crankcase). The term engine
block is often used synonymously with "cylinder block" (although technically distinctions
can be made between en bloc cylinders as a discrete unit versus engine block designs
with yet more integration that comprise the crankcase as well).

CYLINDER BLOCK LINER

A cylinder liner is a cylindrical part to be fitted into an engine block to form a cylinder. It is one of the
most important functional parts to make up the interior of an engine. The cylinder liner, serving as
the inner wall of a cylinder, forms a sliding surface for the piston rings while retaining the lubricant within.
The most important function of cylinder liners is the excellent characteristic as sliding surface

PISTON
The pistons are the cylindrical-shaped component that forms the movable seal in a cylinder. A piston moves
up and down in one of the engine block cylinders. The explosive force of combustion is exerted upon the
surface of the piston. The pistons have grooves cut into the side of the piston to accommodate the piston
rings which help seal the combustion chamber.

Flywheel
A flywheel is a rotating mechanical device that is used to store rotational energy. Flywheels have a significant
moment of inertia and thus resist changes in rotational speed. The amount of energy stored in a flywheel is
proportional to the square of its rotational speed. Energy is transferred to a flywheel by applying torque to it,
thereby increasing its rotational speed, and hence its stored energy. Conversely, a flywheel releases stored
energy by applying torque to a mechanical load, thereby decreasing its rotational speed.

engine can be more powerful and efficient than a naturally
aspirated engine because the turbine forces more air, and
proportionately more fuel, into the combustion chamber
than atmospheric pressure alone

TRANSMISSION

A machine consists of a power source and a power transmission system, which provides controlled application of
the power. Transmission as an assembly of parts including the speed-changing gears and the propeller shaft by
which the power is transmitted from an engine to a live axle. Often transmission refers simply to the gearbox that
uses gears and gear trains to provide speed and torque conversions from a rotating power source to another device.

SYNCHRONIZING RING
If the teeth, the so-called dog teeth, make contact with the gear. but the two parts are spinning at different
speeds, the teeth will fail to engage and a loud grinding sound will be heard as they clatter together.
For this reason, a modern dog clutch in an automobile has a synchronizer mechanism or synchromesh,
which consists of a cone clutch and blocking ring.

BREAK

C-04-07. jpg
A friction brake is a type of automotive brake that slows or stops a vehicle by converting kinetic energy
into heat energy, via friction. The heat energy is then dissipated into the atmosphere. In most systems,
the brake acts on the vehicle's road wheel hubs, but some vehicles use brakes which act on the axles
or transmission.Friction brakes may be of either drum or disc type.

BEARINGS
A bearing is a machine element that constrains relative motion between moving parts to only the
desired motion. The design of the bearing may, for example, provide for free linear movement of
the moving part or for free rotation around a fixed axis; or, it may prevent a motion by controlling
the vectors of normal forces that bear on the moving parts. Bearings are classified broadly according
to the type of operation, the motions allowed, or to the directions of the loads (forces) applied to the parts

Shell Bearing
In a shell bearing, there is a flat steel strip on which a sheet made from bearing material is bonded.
The entire assembly is formed into half round or full round shapes. The important parameter is the
shell thickness which is controlled by taking a cut on an internal diameter

PUMPS

B-11-01.jpg
The oil pump in an internal combustion engine circulates engine oil under pressure to the rotating
bearings, the sliding pistons and the camshaft of the engine. This lubricates the bearings, allows
the use of higher-capacity fluid bearings and also assists in cooling the engine.

CONSUMER DURABLES (WHITE GOODS)

Consumer durable is a good that does not quickly wear out,
or more specifically, one that yields utility over time rather
than being completely consumed in one use. Highly durable
goods such as refrigerators, cars, or mobile phones usually
continue to be useful for three or more years of use, so durable
goods are typically characterized by long periods between
successive purchases.

VALVE SEAT

The valve seat in an internal combustion gasoline or diesel engine is the surface against which an intake or an exhaust
valve rests during the portion of the engine operating cycle when that valve is closed. The valve seat is a critical component
of an engine in that if it is improperly positioned, oriented, or formed during manufacture, valve leakage will occur which will
adversely affect the engine compression ratio and therefore the engine efficiency, performance (horsepower), exhaust
emissions, and engine life.

OTHER INDUSTRIAL APPLICATIONS

Flatness Measurement
Many part designs contain surfaces that need to be uniform. In GD&T flatness tolerance defines
a zone between two parallel planes within which a surface must lie. Since flatness is applied to an
individual surface, this tolerance does not need to be related to a datum. Flatness is usually used on
a surface associated with a size dimension, acting as a refinement to the size requirement to ensure
proper function of a part, or to promote even wear. Flatness tolerance applies in all drawing views,
not just the view showing the tolerance callout.

Flatness of the surface

To check flatness of a surface of small parts

like valve plates used in refrigeration and
industrial hydraulics. This fixture is supplied
in three table sizes diameter 150, 200 and 250 mm.
The top surface of the table is ground to a high degree
of flatness. Depending on the specific requirement,
surface of the table can be lined with carbide strips to
render more wear resistance. At the center of the table,
an electronic probe is fitted with tip of the probe
protruding outside. When a component whose flatness
is to be measured is slowly moved over the probe contact,
variation in the readings is recorded, which is flatness.
