Open Web Net My Home - Daikin Interface

Introduction
This tutorial pretend to connect My Home system to a Daikin CoolMaster interface. This way
we are going to be able to control Daikin systems using the Touch Screen of a My Home
system.

***This is a small tutorial full of pictures you can read it in a few minutes.

Open Web Net My Home - Daikin Interface

What we are going to do
We are going to build a basic system using several My Home devices to connect and control
a CoolMaster Daikin interface unit. The CoolMaster is a really useful interface that can control
to a Daikin HVAC system using a RS232 protocol.
Steeps
1. - Building the setup
2. - Configuration all the devices in the set up
3. - Run some tests

WHAT YOU WILL NEED

1. - Any My Home Gateway like MH200N or F454 this tutorial uses the MH200N
2. - Any Power Source like E49 for SCS Bus, or 346020 for MH200N this tutorial use the
346020
3. - Bticino TouchScreen H4890
4. - IRSplit Interface 3456 one for each internal unit we are controlling, in this case we are using
3 off them.
5. - CoolMaster 1000D Daikin VRV Supply by Cool Automation
6. - DS1206 supply by Tibbo Technology, this device need also a power source supplied
by third party
7. - USB to RS232 converter, you need this only in case your PC don't have one of them, this
device is used to simulate some internal units in the CoolMaster if you have the actual units
connected to the CoolMaster you probably won't need this device.
8. - Several hardware, Serial cable, Network cable, power supply etc.

Abstract
Basically we need to translate Open Web Net messages into RS232 messages for
CoolMaster in a reliable way to control the Daikin system. As you know Open Web Net is
based on IP protocol, so we need to translate from IP to RS232.

Open Web Net My Home - Daikin Interface

Description of each component
MH200N or any other gateway is used to maintain a TCP/IP connection in a public open
language like Open Web Net, this way we can hear any message from the internal BTicino Bus
and translate into TCP/IP language in this case Open Web Net.
346020 this is the power supply of the MH200N and also is needed to be the bus supply of My
Home system. Also any power supply will be fine.
C9451 This is a Ethernet Switch in this case provided by BTicino no need any configuration.
H4890 is the small My Home Touch Screen, the human interface of My Home System, is used
to control the VRV System from the standard pages provided to manage generic IR
Air Condition Splits. It's also possible to use the big My Home Touch Screen item H4690.
3456 This device translate the commands from the Touch Screen into the IRSplit protocol, The
IR signal is not going to be used, but it's used to simulate the command received from the TS.
These commands are send to the CoolMaster interface thanks the My Home Gateway. This
tutorial uses 3 of these interfaces, but at least we need one for each internal unit that has to be
controlled.
CoolMaster 1000D Daikin VRV takes the RS232 protocol and translate that into the Daikin
protocol, this interface is reliable to do this job is may be the easiest way to control Daikin
systems, also you can control many others brands using different CoolMaster part number, in
this case we are working with Daikin. This tutorial use the model 1000D which works with
Daiking but if you need to control other brand you just change the model 1000D to the one you
need, 2000S for Sanyo, 3000T for Toshiba, 4000M for Mitsubishi and so on. All the steeps are
the same even the IRSpliter configuration.
DS1206 this device takes the communication from the MH200N and translate that IP protocol
into RS232, also have in his core a piece of software that allows translating only few specific
strings from IP protocol (Home Web Net) into the RS232 that can be ear by the CoolMaster.
This device doesn't have a AC-DC adapter so is necessary to buy one 12VDC positive center
will do the job.
USB to RS232 Converter we are going to use this device only to put the CoolMaster in
simulation mode, and check the project. You need this only in case your PC don't have one of
them, this device is used to simulate some internal units in the CoolMaster if you have the
actual units connected to the CoolMaster you probably won't need this device.

Open Web Net My Home - Daikin Interface

Configuration
After building the Setup is time to configure all the devices. In this case configure the
devices with no particular order.
In the next sub sections there will be a reviewing of the configuration of each device.
MH200N
In this case we need the software TiMH200N, once is open do the next configuration:
Go to Ethernet, under Network Connection. We need to give a fixed IP to ensure the
connection with the TS1206.
IP Address: 192.168.1.40
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
IP Router, Primary DNS, Secondary DNS: 192.168.1.1

www.myopen-legrandgroup.com

Open Web Net My Home - Daikin Interface

At this point we need to know the IP Address that the Ethernet Switch is giving to our PC. First
we need to open the shell command in our computer, and after that ask the computer the ip
address using the ipconfig instruction.
In this case we can see that the IP Address is 192.168.1.110
Remember that this address can change if you recycle the power of the switch.

www.myopen-legrandgroup.com

Open Web Net My Home - Daikin Interface

After that go to, IP Address enabling, under Security and configured as show. In this step we
are going to open an IP Address for third party software in this case the software of the DS1206
Tibbo device.
IP address range 1: 192-192.168-168.1-1.248-250
IP address range 2: 192-192.168-168.1-1.108-111
Now the TS1206 must be inside this range, we are going to use 192.168.1.249 for the TS1206.
In the case of the IP Address range 2, we are using 108-111 because our Switch is in the
192.168.1.110 address.

Now we can use the OpenClient to check all the traffic in the network.

Ones you finish the set up we need to send that information to the MH200N, to do that you need
to connect the device using the network cable and transfer the info, just click the Download
icon under the Tools Menu, to be sure the next screen is going to ask the current time and
date, this mean you are transferring the info from the PC to the device. And not the other way
around.

346020
The power supply 346020 no need any kind of configuration, only connect the power outlet,
the DC Power supply and the SCS BUS to the MH200N.
C9451
This is a Ethernet Switch in this case provided by BTicino no need any configuration.
L4684
This Touch Screen is going to be the human interface and need to have the three IRSplit
devices loaded in the configuration. Let's review the configuration of this device.
Open the software TiTouchScreen V2.0 then click on New Project then click next (Navigate

3456
This device take the commands from the Touch Screen to and send it to the Split unit in a form
of an IR stream, we are not going to control a Split unit but we need this device to simulate that
we have the Split unit, this way we get the proper SCS command in the bus and the proper
Open Web Net on the MH200N.
We need to open the IRSplit 1.0 using the command prompt this way we can open it as
administrator. Go to the folder C:\Programs Files\BTicino\IRSplit_0100 and run the
command IRSplit.exe /NOCHECK

In the folders choose Public, then Brands, Daikin and press the DB.

After you finish upload the information to the three devices you most put the proper
configuration. As we show in the previous section, you can use physical or virtual
configuration.

Note:
In this example we use 3 devices 3456 one for each unit and also one extra for the General
Configuration. The 3 devices 3456 need the same software configuration. Also you need to
configure the 3456 with the same address we use in the touch Screen configuration, this is
important because the Touch Screen is going to speak with an 3456 specific. So the
configuration is really important.
Is important to note that to check if this is working you put back this device in the set up and
move the temperature in the TouchScreen, if the 3456 is working you will see the a LED
blinking in the 3456.

CoolMaster 1000D Daikin VRV
In this case in the CoolMaster we are going to simulate 2 units that way we can test our
system, This tutorial use some commands to do the simulation, but if you need further
information use the manual.
You can download the manual from the page http://www.coolautomation.com/ the manual
useful for this matter is CoolMaster Programmers Reference Manual (PRM) and use it to
simulate the 2 units and learn more about the features of this device.
Using any communication program as HyperTerminal or Putty connect to the CoolMaster
using a USB-RS232 cable, with the next settings:

Baud Rate: 9600

Data Bits: 8
Parity Control: None
Stop Bits: 1
Flow Control: None

www.myopen-legrandgroup.com

21

Open Web Net My Home - Daikin Interface

After you have communication, you can send this command to simulate the 10 units:
simul 10
The CoolMaster will respond with OK
We want to simulate 10 units because we have configured the units 6 and 2, as you can
remember from the configuration of the TouchScreen and the 3456

www.myopen-legrandgroup.com

22

Open Web Net My Home - Daikin Interface

Now we can check the status of the system with the "stat" instruction. After do the checking
let's turn off all the units, that way we can check later if the TouchScreen is turning the unit 2
and 6 back on, to do that send the instruction "alloff" the CoolMaster is going to take a moment
to accomplish the task.

www.myopen-legrandgroup.com

23

Open Web Net My Home - Daikin Interface

Check the status again. All the units are OFF

To finish the simulation you can type simul 0, or recycle power to the device.
Now the CoolMaster is in simulation mode, in this point you need to unplug the CoolMaster from
the USB-RS232 cable but not unplug from the power supply, and put back the device in the
original set up of our system.

DS1206
Once we are at this point we only need to do one more configuration. In this steep we are
going to program the Tibbo DS1206, basically this device is going to sniff the IP network
looking for the Open Web Net command, generated by the 3456 device and when the
Tibbo see this command is going to translate this into the CoolMaster input command.
The driver inside the Tibbo is already develop you only need to load this piece of software into
the device, for doing this we need to download the software Tibbo IDE from the web site
http://tibbo.com/basic/product/tide.html and install it.
Once is installed you need to go to the software call Device Explorer.

www.myopen-legrandgroup.com

25

Open Web Net My Home - Daikin Interface

Click on the device, you can use the Buzz button to be sure is the device you want to
program, then click in Upload and Load Application through the Network. Here also put the IP
Address to the Tibbo, in the tutorial 192.168.1.249 is used.

After that, load the firmware MyHome, you can found this firmware in the Open Community web
page or attached to this PDF in the same ZIP folder, once you finish also you can put the
TS1206 back in the original setup.

www.myopen-legrandgroup.com

26

Open Web Net My Home - Daikin Interface

Now you need to go to the IP Address of the Tibbo, in this case 192.168.1.249. You don't need
any password to get inside the configuration page leave that field empty and click on
Login

Just in the case that your Tibbo has the red led blinking in a heartbeat pace, you need to
initialize the device. But if the Tibbo has the green led blinking you can go to the next step.

www.myopen-legrandgroup.com

27

Open Web Net My Home - Daikin Interface

After you initialize the device you need to change some setting to make the Tibbo work fine.
In general settings you will have:
Login password: <empty>
Owner name: <empty> Device
name: <empty>
DHCP: Disable
IP-Address: 192.168.1.249 (IP Address of the TS1206)
Gateway IP-Address: 192.168.1.254 (IP Address of the switch)
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Serial Port Configuration-B: Option 0
Power on Pin9: Off
After change the configuration click on save button.

www.myopen-legrandgroup.com

28

Open Web Net My Home - Daikin Interface

In Gateway Settings you need to have:
Status: Disable
Connection Timeout: 5
Gateway IP-address: 192.168.1.248
Gateway Port: 20000
Serial Interface: Half-Duplex
RTS/CTS Flow Control: Disabled OR remote
DTR Mode: Idle OR remote Powerup DTR State: LOW
Baudrate: 9600bps
Parity: None
Data Bits (0-7 bits, 1-8 bits): 1
Max. Intercharacter Delay (x 10ms): 1
Protocol timeout (x 1 sec): 5
After change the configuration click on save button.

Initialize button will do a full reset of the Tibbo and reset all the settings, Reboot do a soft reset
of the Tibbo keeping the setting as they are.

Test
Let's do some tests, the first is to test all the project together if this fails we are going to do some
part to part test.
1.- Check the temperature in the unit 2, after that change this temperature in the touch screen
and check it again, sometimes take half minute to change.

As you can see the temperature goes from 22 to 19, it's good, if you get this result the system
is working fine. In the pictures you can see the CoolMaster 1000D with a Vantage sticker this is
because in Europe the CoolMaster is distributed by Vantage but is the same device you can buy
any were in the world.

If we get this results we are just fine, and is not difficult to make a real system work because
the CoolMaster we handle most of the job. But if we don't get this lets do some basic
troubleshooting.

www.myopen-legrandgroup.com

30

Open Web Net My Home - Daikin Interface

The first thing to check is the communication between the TouchScreen and the IrSplit, to do
this, change some parameter in the TouchScreen like the temperature and check if the yellow
LED is blinking, if not, check the TouchScreen and the IrSplit configuration.

Also you can check the OpenClient if there is any traffic when you change something in the
TouchScreen. If there is traffic that's mean the Bticino part of the system is working fine.

www.myopen-legrandgroup.com

31

Open Web Net My Home - Daikin Interface

Open the telnet client and using your USB-Serial interface connect the RS232 to the TS1206,
in here when you change something in the TouchScreen you should see some traffic
information on the RS232 channel. In this case we are sending the instruction General 21
degrees in the Touch Screen and we see this in the output of the Tibbo.

Unit 6 at 23 degrees. We see this. If you get to this point everything will be working fine.
