Australia does many trades with other countries but only some become Australias

major trading partner. In 1960s and 1970s Australian trade shifted way from other
Commonwealth countries and toward to Asia.
The major trading partner for Australia in the year 2003 until 2005 is Japan. Australia
exports their goods to Japan are mostly coal, iron, primary products such as beef, wheat,
fruit and vegetables, and meat products. Japan exports their goods to Australia are mostly
passenger motor vehicles, goods vehicles, refined petroleum, and civil engineering
equipment and parts. The decrease in trade between Australia and Japan is mainly because
Japan trying to protect their agriculture. Australia faces quotas, high tariffs, and standard
barriers in exporting agricultural products, hence the decrease in trade with Japan.
On 7 April 2014, Australia and Japan Prime Minister Tony Abbott and Shinzo Abe
have announced in Tokyo, Japan their conclusion about the Japan Australia Economic
Partnership Agreement (JAEPA). This agreement will give Australias export a valuable
preferential access better than any Japans agreements with other countries. The JAEPA is
yet complete but it will complete after necessary legal processes.
In 2006, the major trading partner for Australia isPeoples Republic of China and
Japan is currently in second place. For the past two decade Peoples Republic of China has a
great diplomatic relationship with Australia which begun in December 1972 and become one
of the Australias major two-way trade partner since. Mainly due to high demand for iron
ore, coal and liquefied natural gas from Peoples Republic of Chinacauses the two countries
to become major trading partner since Australia is the number 2 ranking in producing iron
ore in the year 2010 after Peoples Republic of China and Australia is the top 5 coal producer
in the world in the year 2012. Peoples Republic of China mainly exports telecommunication
equipment and component, clothing, computers, toys, prams and sporting equipment to
Australia.
On 18th of April 2005, Australia and Peoples Republic of China have agreed to
negotiate a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between the two countries to strengthen their
economic relationship. On March 2005 the study of the FTA between the two countries has
completed and they are significant benefit for both countries. The agreement of said FTA is
yet to achieve agreement on certain issues and currently on negotiating.
