THE INSANITY OF GOD’S LOVE

Part 2 of Series: BLINDSIDED by an Unpredictable God

Feb. 13 & 14, 2010 // Pastor Kerry Shook

• Unrealistic Expectations

• Unmet Needs

• Harmful Words

• Bitter Feelings

• Total Apathy

God showed how much He loved us by sending His only Son into
this wicked world to bring to us eternal life through His death. In
this act we see what real love is: it is not our love for God but His
love for us when He sent His Son to satisfy God's anger against our
sins. Dear friends, since God loved us as much as that, we surely
ought to love each other too.” 1 John 4:9-11 (TLB)

1. LOVE RISKS TOTAL COMMITMENT

“Then he said, ‘Take the arrows,’ and the king took them. Elisha
told him, ‘Strike the ground.’ He struck it three times and
stopped. The man of God was angry with him and said, ‘You
should have struck the ground five or six times; then you would
have defeated Aram and completely destroyed it. But now you
will defeat it only three times.’” 2 Kings 13:18-19 (NIV)
2. LOVE RISKS BEING AWKWARD
“The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us.”
John 1:14a (NIV)

• The awkwardness of asking

“A blind beggar named Bartimaeus was sitting beside the
road… ‘What do you want me to do for you?’ Jesus asked.”
Mark 10:46; 51 (NLT)

• The awkwardness of expressing

“Jesus wept.” John 11:35 (KJV)\

3. LOVE RISKS LETTING GO

• Let go of selfishness
“Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus:
… He humbled Himself and became obedient to death--
even death on a cross!”
Phil. 2: 5; 8 (NIV)

• Let go of bitterness
“Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they don’t know what
they are doing.” Luke 23:34a (NLT)

4. LOVE RISKS COMPLETE REJECTION

“But God put His love on the line for us by offering His Son in
sacrificial death while we were of no use whatever to Him.”
Rom.5:8 (MSG)
