HONORINGNIGHT

A. RATIONALE

CFCYouthforChrist(YFC)believesintheroleofthefamily,mostparticularlythe
parents,inthegrowthandformationoftheirchildren.AlthoughYFCcreatesasupport
groupforyoungpeopleages1321inastageoftheirlifewheretheyareformingtheir
own identity and building their own dreams, we cannot discount the fact that YFC
cannotdothesealone.Infact,YFCprovidesasupplementtothekindofenvironment
theyouthexperiencesinhis/herhome.

Throughtheyears,YFCsawtheneedtoreinforcetheimportanceofthefamilyin
moldingtheyoung.YFCthen,seekstobringtheYFCmembersbacktotheirfamilyand
acknowledge more strongly that the molding of family takes precedence in all other
support groups for the young. YFC also seeks neither to alienate nor to replace the
family. Hence, YFC introduces the FamilyFocused Activities, one of which is the
ParentsHonoringNight.

B. OVERVIEWOFTHEFAMILYFOCUSEDACTIVITY

TheFamilyFocusedActivitieswereenvisioned becauseoftheneedtonourish
themembershiplevelbystrengtheningfamilyrelationships.

TheobjectivesoftheFamilyFocusedActivitiesareasfollows:
1. ToallowtheyoungtorealizeandclaimGodsplanfortheirpresentand
futurefamily.
2. ToteachtheyoungtobringChristtotheirfamily.
3. Tostrengthenthefamilyrelationship.
4. Toincreaseintheyoungtheloveandvalueforsiblings.
5. ToencouragenonCFCParentstoloveandvaluecommunity.
6. Tocreateanalternativeenvironmentforfamilyfellowship.

C. OVERVIEWOFTHEPARENTSHONORINGNIGHT

The Parents Honoring Night is a 5hour, night activity, conducted on a cluster

level for the Community Based Program and sector level for High School and Campus
Basedprograms.

TheParentsHonoringNightisagatheringoffamilieswhobelongtoagreater
familyinCFCandYFC.ItisnightofhonoringGod,ourparentsandthiscommunity.The
attendees of the activities are YFC members in their second year, their parents and
CoupleCoordinators.TheCFCleadersintheclustermustbeinvited.

D. OBJECTIVES

InaYFCmemberssecondyearinYFC,theParentsHonoringNightaimsto:

1. LeveluptheYFCsappreciationofhis/herfamilythroughthecultureofappreciating
andhonoring.
2. Provide a venue for the YFC members, their parents, the YFC Couple Coordinators
andtheCFCtointeractandbuildrelationshipandsupport.
3. Bringoutfromtheparents,theCFC,andthemembersoftheotherministries,the
appreciationofYFCandtheworkofCFCinbringingfamiliesclosertoeachother.

CHAPTER2

GUIDELINESINCODUCTINGTHEPARENTSHONORINGNIGHT

A. PREPARINGTHEPARENTSHONORINGNIGHT

AlargepartofthesuccessoftheParentsHonoringNightliesontheattendance
of the parents to be honored. This also means that the Parents Honoring Night is a
partnership with the CFC Cluster. There are two key groups of people whom the YFC
Cluster Couple Coordinator and the YFC Cluster Head need to talk to and seek to get
involved with in the preparation of the Parents Honoring Night. They are the CFC
ClusterandtheParentsoftheYFCs,especiallythosealreadyactiveinthecluster.

ROLESOFTHEYFCCLUSTERCOUPLECOORDINATOR
1. SharethevisionontheactivitywiththemembersoftheCFCCluster.Allowthem
tobeexcitedaswellandseethatthisisabouttheirchildreninYFC.Iftheyhave
nochildren,allowthemtoseethatthisisaboutthefutureofCFCandforthem
torealizethatthisistheirpartintakingcareofYFCs.
2. Plan the activity with the CFC Cluster Head. This will ensure a greater
participationofthewholeCluster.
3. TalkwiththemhowtheCFCcanbebestinvitedtoattendtheactivity.
4. DiscusswiththemhowtheCFCClusterHouseholdcangetinvolvedintheevent;
assignthemtoaspecificcommitteetogetherwithaYFCcounterpart.
5. DiscussalsotheYFCActivitiesforthenextsixmonths.Thisisanopportunityto
involvetheCFCleadersinthefutureactivitiesoftheirchildreninYFC.
6. After the activity, the Cluster Couple Coordinators role is also to invite the
parentsofparticipantswhoseparentsarenotyetinCFCtoattendfutureoron
goingCLPs

CFCCLUSTER
1. Promote the activity first to the CFC Cluster Household then to the rest of the
Clusterthroughhouseholdandchapterassembly.Sharewiththemthevisionof
theParentsHonoringNight.
2. Invitethempersonally.TheCFCunitheadswillbethepointpersonintermsof
promotingtheeventtotheCFCparents.
3. Getthenamesofthepossibleparticipantsanddatabase.

1. InspireYFCswhoseparentsareactiveinCFC.
2. AllowthemtorealizetheprivilegeoflivinginthefulfillmentofthevisionofCFC.

STEPBYSTEPACTIVITYGUIDELINES
1. SetameetingwiththeCFCClusterHeadtoplantheParentsHonoringNight.
2. Finalizedateandvenuewiththem.
3. DelegatesomeassignmentswiththemandpartnerwithYFCs.Committeeheads
can be distributed among CFC Chapter Heads. They will be assigned together
withYFCChapterHeads.Thecommitteesareasfollows:
a. Registration/Secretariat/Promotionstakescareofinformingeveryone,
facilitates welcoming of participants, makes sure that there is food for
everyone
b. Documentation makes sure that the event is documented (video and
pictures)
c. Logisticsphysicalsetup,venue,soundsystem
d. Program/PFOassignmentofworshipleadersandemcees
e. KFC Youth Facilitators (KFC Ate and Kuya) for announcement of KFC
activitiesandhelpintakingcareofchildrenofCFCwithKFCage.
f. LiturgyandMusicMinistrycollaborationofCFCandYFCinthechapter
4. AnnounceinCFCChapterAssemblies.PersonallyinviteCFCMembers.
5. IdentifyandtalktoYFCswhoseparentsareactiveinCFCtoinvitetheirparents.
6. Discusstheparentssupportgroup(PSG)programwiththeCFCClusterHeadso
thattheycanassignCFChouseholdsasPSG.

B. THINGSTOCONSIDER

1. Find a suitable venue for the activity depending on the needs of the program (ex.
BBQ,beachparty,etc.).Achapelwithaconferenceroomareacanalsobeasuitable
venuefortheactivity.
2. PreparetheEucharisticCelebration.(ThiscanalsobedoneonSaturdayfollowedby
theanticipatedmass)
3. Decideonthefoodfordinner(CanbecateredorPotluck)
4. Identifytheperson/sincharge.(TeamLeadersandCoordinatorsIncharge)
5. Sendoutinvitationstoallparentsandgettheirconfirmation.
6. Since,itistheClusterCoupleCoordinatorswhoknowsalmosteveryonewhowillbe
attending the event, it is suggested that they would be the emcees of the event
togetherwithaYFCleader.(Preferablyafamily)
7. YFCswillpreparepresentationsbasedontheirowntalenttobededicatedtotheir
parents.(E.g.Dance,Songnumber,RolePlay/Skit,etc.)
8. ApresentationofKFCactivitieswillbeinsertedduringorafterthepresentationof
talents.ThiscanbedonebyKFCYouthFacilitators.Thisistoinviteeveryonetobring
theiryoungersiblingsinthisministry.
9. The parents support group program can be done after the KFC presentation. The
ParentsSupportGroupProgramisaprogramtogettheparentsinvolvedinmaking
sure that their children are attending their household meeting. Parents will be

assigned to monitor a YFC household meeting, making sure that they have the
meanstogotoahousehold,followthemupiftheyarenotattendingandinformthe
parents of the members of the household about the household and upcoming
activities.
10. YFCs are asked to prepare candles for the Candlelighting activity. This is a
symbolicceremonyofhonoringtheirparents.TheYFCsrepresentthemselvesasthe
candleandtheparentsastheoneswhostartedtheflame.Thisalsosymbolizesthat
theparentsarethesourceoflightandwithoutthemthecandlesareuseless.
11. YFCs are asked to prepare something special as a gift/ token to their parents (ex.
Poem,handmadegift,songcomposition,etc.),andasongtoserenadetheparents.
