Workshop is organized by the Ingenieurbüro für Mechanik. The location is the Technologie Center
Westbayern (TCW) in Nördlingen.

How to arrive: Nördlingen is situated in the South of Germany, at about 2 hours by train or car from
Munich or 1 ½ hours from Stuttgart. The TCW can be reached by taxi or by a 25 minutes walk from the

The region is of a valuable cultural and touristical interest and worth of a some days post-seminar
vacancy.

Content of the Course

The course is intended for engineers concerned with design and mechanical simulation. Pre- and
Postprocessing with Salome and the basics for preparing, executing and postprocessing linear
mechanical and Contact analyses with Code-Aster are treated. The most common element types and
Load and Boundary conditions of Code-Aster are treated as well as defining materials and properties.

Analysis types:
- Linear static
- Nonlinear static with Contact
- Eigenmodes
- Linear buckling

Postprocessing
- Resu-File, Curve Plotting, Code-Aster Tables, Postprocessing with Salome

Special aspects of Code-Aster:

- Code-Aster File types
- Syntax of Mesh- and Commandfile
- User-Documentation system
- node- and element groups
- using Code-Asters command editor EFICAS
- using Code-Asters job run platform ASTK
- Code-Aster-Concepts (Maillage, Modele, Champ, Resultat, etc.)

The workshops consists half and half of lessons and guided exercises.

Duration: 4 Days
Language: German and English

Prerequistes Each participant should bring its own Laptop or Desktop Computer with Salome-Meca
(package of Salome and Code-Aster) installed on a Linux OS. A fully sufficient and easy way is to
install CAELinux as operational system on Your computer, downloadable at www.caelinux.com. The
newest version of CAELinux (version 2009) needs a 64 bit processor. If Your computer has only 32
bit, install version 2008 of CAELinux. If You have Windows installed and no free partition for a Linux
installation on Your computer, the easiest (and sufficient) way is, to install CAELinux version 2008 in
VMWare Player as virtual machine. Please respect the requirements specified for the computer.
