TO BE READ CAREFULLY PRIOR TO JOINING A SHIP IN NIGERIA
DOCUMENTS TO BE HELD FOR TRAVEL

Passport valid for 1 YEAR with 4 pages without stamps -Please check your passport prior to travel
Entry visa is to be stamped in your passport before departure.
Seamans book
Vaccinations required: Yellow fever To carry yellow book at all times with you.
You will be deported if not holding it.

If you carry medicines, you must have a prescription with you.


Carry the invoice of valuables, in particularly, brand-new ones.
The importation or the exportation of materials, substances and animals are very controlled
in Nigeria. It is especially the case of explosives or ammunitions, narcotics and art materials.

We recommend always carrying some cash in small US Dollars banknotes or local currency (Nigerian Naira
NGN) during all transitions in Africa, in case of unexpected situations.

VISA / PERMIT
TWP (temporary work permit short period)
Be sure that your passport is duly stamped TWP at the point of entry.
Check validity of the stamp (usually 2 to 3 months). Advise BINL HR Manager/appropriate persons
on the validity of your visa.
STR (working visa long period)
Visa arranged prior to departure. Check your passport when it is sent back from the Nigerian
embassy. Be sure that your passport is duly stamped at the point of entry.
IMPORTANT: Give your passport, 4 passport pictures and the envelope from the embassy to the
airport assistant to send to BINL office in Port Harcourt. Your working visa will be processed
locally.

IN THE PLANE PRIOR TO LANDING IN NIGERIA


Fill in your Arrival card, complete Duration of stay according to duration of your visa. (If your visa is 3
months and you only stay 1 week, mark 3 months!).
Ensure you retain your boarding pass or ticket which has your luggage tickets/stickers attached. Your
luggage will be checked against your luggage ticket/stickers before departing the Airport Arrival area.

ASSISTANCE ON ARRIVAL
Check your passport and ensure that at your arrival, they are endorsed/stamped before you leave the
immigration check point.

Do not give money to any service at the airport, even if asked. This custom is not in the Nigerian
law. If not following it is under your responsibility.
Air France staff will make a copy of your passport. Please be cooperative to avoid sanction.
TRANSITS
At Lagos, Port Harcourt, Escravos and Calabar airports, a welcome service (protocol) will be waiting for you
and will assist you with all administrative formalities. For each airport, the meeting point is located in the
arrival hall.
A car under escort will drive you to your destination (Port Harcourt only). No escort is provided for Lagos and
Calabar.
BINL Agent will meet you at the arrival hall and bring you outside to meet BINL airport assistants. BINL
agents are due to present themselves with an ID card and a Bourbon B logo.
The protocol assistant will advice and direct you after your arrival. In case of doubt or if the assistant is
unknown to you, you can verify the identity by asking for name, BINL identification card and possibly the
personal phone number.
Transits through Owerri are not approved by the company. However, in the event of any major logistics
problem affecting approved transits through Port Harcourt, BINL and Partner Companies shall perform a
suitable Risk Assessment and may approve temporary transits through Owerri.
LAGOS AIRPORT
INSTRUCTIONS IF AGENT OR BINL PERSONNEL ARE NOT PRESENT:
DO NOT TAKE A TAXI!
Stand by inside the airport at your arrival hall.
Call and inform immediately BINL using the contact list.
If you have a mobile phone usable in Nigeria:
Call the welcome assistant dedicated. (0 805 659 70 23) Wait for him.
If you havent a mobile phone usable in Nigeria:
Go to the office of the Airport Protocol Service (APS) located on the second floor of the airport
(gate 2226). Notify them that you are arriving for Bourbon Interoil Nigeria Ltd. And ask the
authorities to contact Mr. Joseph Efe Orior (0 805 659 70 23) or Mr. Theodore Adjissi (0 805
659 70 51). If you cannot reach the two personnel try to call Chirstie Koko (0 805 659 70 86) or
Helen OLUGU (0 805 659 70 50).
If the offices of Airport Protocol Service are closed, go to the offices of Partners HC, located at
the third floor (departure hall) contact: 0 17 70 69 43, 0 17 76 09 43 and 0 802 306 613 28 and
contact Nike.
If this office is closed, go to Virgin Nigeria, Aero contractor or Arik Air companies offices located
on the first floor (departure hall). Notify them that you are arriving for Bourbon Interoil Nigeria
Ltd and ask to contact Mr. James or Theodore.
If none of these offices are open, go to the CELTEL stand (floor 0, hall Arrival D, close to
Zenith Bank) inside the airport, ask to use a local mobile phone for call the BINL welcome
contacts. This using is normally paid 25/50 Naira for each communication. If you havent Naira
money, after preliminary deal, you can propose to pay with Euro or US$ (1 unit for a
communication). If this stand is closed, go to the Satcom Limited stand, inside the hall of
departure, floor 0, in front of the check-in deck n13. Request for the same service.
PORT HARCOURT AIRPORT
INSTRUCTIONS IF NO MEETING PARTY PRESENT:
DO NOT TAKE A TAXI!
Stand by and wait, make a call as per contact list.
If you have a mobile phone usable in Nigeria:

Go to the office of Airport Protocol Service or VIRGIN NIGERIA or ARIK Air companies located
at the departure of hall of the airport.
Notify them that you are a guest of Bourbon Interoil Nigeria Ltd and ask the authorities to
contact Mr. Andrew ABUBOKHE (0 805 659 70 49 or 0 803 303 61 20) Mr Emmanuel ARUYA
(0 805 659 70 97) or Ms Christiana KOKO (0 805 659 70 86) or Ms Abigail YOR-OO (0 805
659 70 81). If these means are not available, contact the phone number 0 805 659 70 65.
ESCRAVOS AIRPORT
INSTRUCTIONS IF NO MEETING PARTY PRESENT:
DO NOT TAKE A TAXI!
Stand by and wait, make a call as per contact list.
If nobody is present at the meeting point, contact the Chevron helipad authority and notify them
that you are a member of Bourbon-Interoil Nigeria Ltd and ask the authorities to contact
Escravos base manager (0 805 65 97 061).
If this means are not available, contact the number phone (0 805 65 97 065).
CALABAR AIRPORT
INSTRUCTIONS IF NO MEETING PARTY PRESENT:
DO NOT TAKE A TAXI!
Stand by and wait, make a call as per contact list.
If you have a mobile phone usable in Nigeria:
Call the welcome assistant dedicated. Wait for him.
If you havent a mobile phone usable in Nigeria:
If nobody is present at the meeting point, mention that you are a member of Bourbon Interoil
Nigeria and ask the authorities to contact Mr. UKO or Asher EDET (0 803 866 77 96/0 802 930
54 85)
If these means are not available, contact the number phone 0 805 659 70 65.
If these means are still not available, contact the Virgin Nigeria, Arik Air or Aero Contractors
located at the departure of hall of the airport.
LOST LUGGAGE
In case your luggage is missing on arrival, you must immediately place a claim with the airline. You can ask
for help from the local agent. As per IATA rules, you are entitled to receive from the Airline, a lump sum to
purchase necessary items.
Please keep the documented claim and notify Bourbon Offshore Greenmar.
As you are leaving for about 2 months, we strongly advise that you do not take any expensive items with
you, or else carry these as passenger luggage. It is now very common that luggage is missing on arrival. We
remind you that BOG is not responsible for any undelivered luggage.

TRANSPORT
Rules
Transportation will be provided by a car or bus from the airport to the hotel, vessel or to BINL
office.
If transportation is not provided please do not take a taxi, relax and call any of the contact
numbers (see emergency contacts)
In an event of an accident, vehicle breakdown or any incident while on transit please sit back
in the vehicle and wait, the protocol officer and the security supervisor will handle the situation.
Keep doors locked and windows up.
Dont put valuables close to doors or in view of passers-by.
If you are confronted by armed car snatchers, do not resist, dont argue, your life is worth more
than your car.
If the vehicle is checked by police officer or check point controllers, listen to him, allow him to
discharge his duty, cooperation is the key word, do not respond violently, do not sign anything,
do not offer any form of inducement before, during or after the discharge of his duty, to talk to

a person outside of the vehicle (policeman), it is recommended to open the windows only
partly.
SECURITY
Your exposure to risk will be greatly reduced if you are always discreet and on your guard while taking
precautionary and preventive measures. Keep a low profile.
General attitude
Be discreet when talking about your work.
Be on guard when meeting very friendly people. Such encounters may not be accidental.
Avoid talking about the company you work for, the position you have and your business
project.
Respect the law and the local people.
At the hotel
All the guests house we use are known as safe and secured but have a look down.
Hotels are the preferred hunting grounds for specialist information gatherers so never let your
computer on and IT supports easily accessible.
Keep your passport, credit card, money, value, etc. with you, even for a short time.
Make sure that the doors and windows lock properly, if not ask for changing the room.
Check the fire drill and emergency exit.
Keep your room key with you, even for lunch or dinner.
You are not allowed to go out, to restaurants, nightclub, neither to invite women in your room.
Avoid excessive quantity of alcohol. The public image of the Company could suffer and you
might become a target.
Never open the door to a stranger.
If you need some goods do not go out for buying, do not use taxi or moto taxi, ask somebody
from the hotel to buy it for you, just check the cost before.
If you can hear some shooting around, do not look at through the window to check what is
happening. Switch off all the source of noise (TV, Radio, etc), turn off the light, lie down, call
the security manager and wait.
If the accommodation that is offered to you does not satisfy you, do not make responsible the
welcome officer who received recommendation, call the Protocol.
Always check your luggage and carry it yourself. Some helpers may mistake vehicle and place
it in wrong car or may be stolen.
Departure from the hotel
Check that you have all your belongings with you (passport, money, credit card, etc) before
leaving the hotel.
Verify the bill you sign (phone calls, Alcohol and mini bar are not paid by the Company).
Policy of movements
For the crew of the vessels in ONNE
All movements outside the direct perimeter of the jetty are forbidden.
For the expatriate personnel working in AMADI BASE
All the expatriate personnel must be back in the guesthouse before 07:00 PM. The first
departure to AMADI Base from the guesthouse is fixed after 06:45 AM. Strictly no movement
between 07:00 PM and 06:45 AM.

BOARDING FORMALITIES
All intending passengers must arrive at any designated Interoil Jetty at least 45 minutes before the surfer
estimated time of departure for boarding formalities.
Baggage, light equipment and tools shall be arranged in jumbo bags and will be on the surfers deck.

For security reasons passengers are advised to always carry with them their company identity card for easy
identification. Passengers are also advised to put on safety shoes as no one will be allowed to board the
surfer on sandals or slippers.

CHOPPER FORMALITIES
If you join a vessel via a chopper, have the HUET training course ready to be shown at Helideck. You are not
allowed to carry luggage over 20 kgs weight.
