■ For the second consecutive
year, the Lakeview Area Chamber
of Commerce is partnering with
McKenna’s Village Restaurant to host
a series of planning meetings ahead
of the annual Lakeview Summerfest
celebration. Summerfest, scheduled
for June 17 to 19. Summerfest is a
highlight of the community, and cul-
minates with the Jaycee’s impressive
fireworks display over Tamarack Lake.
The first planning meeting is slated
for 6pm on Thursday, Feb. 11 at the
Village restaurant.
The planning meetings are in-
tended to bring together all those
responsible for ensuring the success
of the events. Organizers are asking
that any group that is coordinating
an event during the three-day cel-
ebration send at least one represen-
tative to the initial meeting. “We do a
lot of brainstorming at these meet-
ings, and work hard to make sure
that the event works for everyone,”
said chamber board member Tom
Ammann. “We are always looking for
new events to add to Summerfest,
so we really encourage that anyone
even thinking about a new event
comes to the planning meetings.”
There is no need to register for
the event. Non-alcoholic beverages
and appetizers will be provided.
■ Dances are being held from
7 to 11 p.m. the third Saturday of
each month at the Mecosta VFW. The
dances are open to the public and
cost $5 admission. The Lost Country
Band plays during the dances. The

THE MORTON TOWNSHIP Board of
Trustees is seeking bids from area con-
tractors to add not less than 6 inches of
additional ceiling insulation to our Town-
ship Building located at 290 West Main
Street in the Village of Mecosta. In addi-
tion to the added insulation, the Board
wants repairs done to the existing insu-
lation that is causing heat loss and ice
build-ups on our building. The Board will
look at proposals that offer assurance that
the fix presented will solve the problems.
Bidders should be licensed and insured.

Meet Tiana - An adorable little
beagle mix who’s looking for a
new home! She’s just one of the
many dogs and cats available for
adoption at the Montcalm County
Animal Shelter. Tiana was picked
up as a stray in Fairplain Township
on February 5th, and unless her
owners come to claim her, she’ll be
available for adoption starting February 12th. This doggy is
about a year old, with black & brown fur, and she’s good
around kids and other dogs too. Tiana is started on all her
vaccinations except rabies, but will need a booster shot after
she is adopted out. Her shelter ID# is 10/02/13.
Many other dogs besides Tiana are available to be adopted,
