CODRES 2007 Division 1

Responsibility
Resulting from a collective work, this new edition of the CODRES has been prepared with the participation of the participants concerned:
Principals and Purchasers, Manufacturers, Notified Bodies, Technical Centres and Representatives of regulatory Authority.
It takes account of the good practice in use in the French enterprises in the field of storage tanks
and of the state of the construction techniques used at the time of drawing-up this Division.
However in no case will the publication of this Code engage the responsibility of its author and of the editor,
the Manufacturer being always responsible for the tanks he constructs.

Conformity
This Code constitutes an integrated and functional document which the writers have wished to be as homogeneous as possible.
Any User cannot avail himself of the reference to the CODRES if he has not complied with
all the provisions applicable to the construction considered.
Thus, referring to separate chapters of the CODRES does not allow a "certficate of conformity to the Code" to be issued.

Revisions
The registered Owners of the CODRES are informed of the publication of the updates by means of a document that informs them
about the date of publication and the purchase procedure (Neither automatic sending nor subscription to the updates is provided for).
The modifications are indicated : with E: editorial corrections and with T: technical corrections or supplements.

Applicable edition
If compliance with the CODRES is required, the applicable edition is the lastest edition (including updates)
existing 6 (six) months before the date of coming into effect of the contract.

Copyright
Any reproduction is prohibited and will result in penal sanctions
SNCT Publications is and remains the holder of all the intellectual property rights with respect to the author rights
and the rights on the databases for the CODRES
Any reproduction, performance, duplication in any form or by any means, in particular by photocopying, without prior explicit agreement
from SNCT Publications and its entitled beneficiaries, if relevant, would constitute a counterfeiting offence.
Any counterfeiting offence is punishable by up to three years imprisonment and a fine of 300 000 (French intellectual property code, see hereafter).
The application of penal sanctions does not constitute an obstacle to civil actions to recover damages.
Moreover, the publication of the judgement may be ordered.

Foreword to the Division 1 of the 2007 Edition of the CODRES

On the basis of the works done under the responsibility of Jean GABEN and JeanLouis TISSOT as regards 1991 edition of the Code, the directing members of the SNCT under
the presidency of Yves FIORDA have decided to prepare a new edition of the CODRES,
reflecting the expertise and professionalism of the French Manufacturers in the field of
storage tanks.
In this new edition, in addition to the necessary updates in particular with respect to
materials (incorporation of stainless steels) the Part Design and Calculations has been
completely reviewed and enriched. Supplementing the usual calculations methods which are
widely recognized internationally, this new edition will in particular enable the tanks to be
sized taking account of the seismic risks and the frangibility of the equipment under
accidental loading conditions to be ensured.
The aim of the writers was to prepare a document which would be the most complete
possible and easy to use and which would group all the design and fabrication rules and
synthesize more than 50 years experience of the Manufacturers and Users.
To take account of all the construction and maintenance operations relating to vertical
steel tanks intended for liquid storage, the CODRES 2007 will include two Divisions:
Division 1, intended for the construction of new tanks,
Division 2, intended for in-service monitoring and repair of existing tanks (in course of
preparation).
Reflecting the consensus between the Manufacturers, this new edition of the CODRES will
enable tanks to be constructed and repaired taking the technical and economical aspects into
consideration and moreover, taking account of the prime importance attached by the
Manufacturers to the work quality and environment and to safety requirements at work.
In addition, to ensure the timelessness of these documents and their regular updates, the
SNCT will regularly convene a committee of specialists to answer the questions of the users of
these two divisions et prepare their future development.
