Chinese New Year Celebration
We celebrated the Chinese New Year in the Nottingham City
Council House on 28 January 2009. It was a very joyful occasion
to have our honourable guests, members and public gathered
together to celebrate the Chinese New Year! Various stalks were set
up where members were able to enjoy themselves participating in
different demonstrations like Chinese calligraphy, paper cutting and
Lantern making. We were very honoured to have the Sheriff of
Nottingham and the vice chairman of the Nottingham County
Council who attended the celebration.

After the initial briefing of our work and the introduction of our
guests, we had performance of the Lion Dance and Tai Chi in the
Old Market Square followed by Chinese Songs and Chinese Music
in the council house. The guests and participants were very
interested in the performances, especially the lion dance which
impressed them deeply. We had a sit-down meal. The lucky draw
near the ending of the event further boosted the atmosphere in the
venue. The Chinese legend of the Dragon encourages us to respect each
other and not to take advantage. Recently, a man whose
membership had expired for two years and had not rejoined
came to the office needing to use the phone and asked for a
translation service. He expects us to be here to help but is not
repared to contribute, whilst others fully support NCWA. Please
make sure your membership is up-to-date so that we can be here
when you need us.
